I lived in Idaho Falls 2009-2013. At that time around 75% of the population was LDS. I know as its grown that percentage has decreased but I had a hard time believing it's now only 25% so I did some digging and all sources are indicating it's around 60% currently.

There is a huge difference between eastern Idaho and western Idaho. Western Idaho is not as cold and less snow but it is what makes all of Idaho great for those that love to live here.

Don't forget that you will need snow tires for the winter, and the salt on the roads will rust out your vehicle in a short time frame. BTW 21degrees F is not even cold. Idaho Falls record low was 38 degrees below zero F, and the state record is -60F. (Stay in California.)

What about rain? We just moved from Washington due to military orders and I lived there for 14.5 years and my husband was there over 20. The rain and gray was so hard to live in after growing up in the desert of So Cal.

In the 60’s and Early 70’s there was palpable strain between the LDS and NON-LDS communities. The Non-LDS community was growing rapidly due to expansion of what was then known as the NRTS. Their not-from-around-here aspects and inflated paychecks seemed to be resented. Being in elementary school then, let’s just say kids do not have the inhibitions their parents have. What a parent may have said tended to be acted on, often cruelty. By the 1980’s things had definitely changed. I am not sure why the change happened. Part of course was just the passing of time; however, the Teton Dam disaster is likely a huge factor. LDS and NON-LDS shared a battle to save the town from destruction from a massive wall of water, it is hard not like people who have stood with you in a crises. Also the economic issues were largely resolved. As the saying goes, a rising tide lifts all boats. The local people - predominately LDS - definitely felt the benefits from what was by then known as the INEL. Also, it turned out that most of the people who came from outside the area - at least the ones who stayed, really tended to share the same values and as stated in this video mostly minded their own business - but in a friendly way. The friendly part - I must admit - was largely driven by the LDS. Although not LDS, over time I discovered they are simply a very easy group of people to like and admire. They are genuinely friendly, hard working, and helpful neighbors. In that area they are good at leading by example.

Grew up as a non Mormon in Idaho Falls, and had lots of LDS friends. They treated me with kindness, and accepted that I was not going to convert to their religion. The percentage of LDS was much higher back then. There was a Book of Mormon on the school principal's desk and Mormon religion classes offered to graduate high school in the Public School system (even a Seminary building was built at the public high school that was used only for Mormon religion classes). There was a feeling of being in the minority, but I was never treated badly because I was not LDS. They make good neighbors and good friends, and their religious convictions contribute to the city's low crime and small town type values that make Idaho Falls special.

There are too many Mormons everywhere. It's a false religion, get out of that cult as soon as you can.

I'm 70 yrs old and grew up in the LDS Church. I became inactive when I was about 16, just didn't work for me. However, I didn't have any problems with my Mormon acquaintences and friends by bowing out, quite the contrary. The bishop who lived down the street helped me install a new roof on my house and asked for nothing but cold drinks and sandwiches. I have no problem with the vast majority of Mormons, they are good neighbors and friends. Thanks for the vid. Cheers from West Jordan, UT

Thanks for the videos! We're considering IF for retirement in a few years. Would love to hear from some of your clients or friends who moved from warmer states AND states with no state income tax to hear what the hardest adjustments were in those (or other) areas. We're coming from Tx and just can't handle the heat+humidity any longer than we have to! Also looking at WY due to no income taxes, but we're leaving towards IF due to the beauty of the town and how the city has enhanced the river area through town. Really beautiful!

I live in Idaho Falls and the cost of living is high! Tons of people are pouring in to this area so that alone makes it crowded and expensive. But hay, you can rent a 2 bedroom apt. for about $1,500.00 a month

This my last year in Idaho falls and Idaho state. Going back California Temecula 😍 I enjoyed the nature on summer time but I didn’t enjoy the harsh snow and freezing weather that last for 6 months and that is depressing. I didn’t really liked their small downtown is looks old and like there living still back 90s. I just was disappointed how there no fancy or pretty cozy buildings. I lived in small town Texas all my life and was always going city 40m away. I just enjoy both. And I love nature too I did cool stuff here Idaho but sucks Summer is short. On May I couldn’t really go lake and swim bcz it was still windy and cold. But I did not enjoy the Mexican food is just feels like taste white -American Mexican. I feel so happy to leave but also going miss the quite town and friendships I build here. 😢❤

Lived in I.F. (some called it "Idiot Flats"; somewhat tongue in cheek---I think...lol) for about a dozen years ending in the late '80's. Loved the proximity to Driggs and the Tetons. Was a whitewater kayaker so all kinds of options there. Loved the Snake River running through town. Not LDS but had no problem with the Mormons, although I wouldn't want to be in a business dealing with them....just a hunch. Cost of living was decent, compared to Sun Valley or Jackson Hole. Not much culturally but that's changed as I noticed during my last couple of visits (live in Sun Valley now). Closest in-person university is Idaho State, 50 miles south in Pocatello. Heavy traffic used to be confined to 17th street where all the shopping centers were. Now its busy everywhere with the exception of the Northgate Mile. Once the 2nd WalMart opened up next to the I-I5 I decided it was time to move to someplace quieter, so I ended up in Mackay (no stop lights) and after a year, to Sun Valley.

We moved to Idaho Falls 8 years ago. Best thing we ever did for our family. We love it here👍

Be cautious of The Body Snatchers. They hide under white shirts and ties, some can be seen riding around on bicycles with books. Others may be seen in your workplace and schools. Be careful and wise if engaging with them.
