Trundling a Scary Boulder While Climbing
Hi, Di Taylor here, wife of Tony Howard. Nice to see you have his Wadi Rum guidebook. We were the first climbers (other than the Bedouin) to find and explore the whole of Wadi Rum back in 1984 then the trekking, canyoning and caving (also more climbing) all over Jordan in subsequent years. Great times. No climbers or tourists in Rum then, the village was just a few houses and the Bedouin lived in their traditional desert camps. It was wonderful to discover their magnificent hunting routes - described by some as world class mountain adventures. Wonderful times. Other than our guidebooks to Rum and Jordan, the story of our explorations is in Tony's book, Quest into the Unknown (Vertebrate Publishing).
I gave ya a thumbs up.......but take it (if you choose to) from an old Valley climber, get all that F***n gear off yer harness. Hang just what you need on a GEAR SLING. Trading the harness for a swami belt wouldn't hurt either. I was leading 5.10+ 5.11 OW's long before cams or sticky rubber. Savvy Yosemite wide crack climbers carried and used a couple of big bongs (with or without a hammer), plus a few nuts (hexentrics ARE nuts) for "pro", "BITD". Good luck!
Wow!!! That is just crazy
In which sector name of Wadi Rum?
Barrah Canyon!
I'll say it again, one of my favorite climbing vids on RUclips. Such a solid narrative and message
Great video guys, looking forward to more rock-tacular content!
Thanks for bolting this. Some great movement on the route. I was a bit unsure about some of the black plates and whether they would come off. Did you test them a lot? Also how did you bolt it, ground up?!
We bolted it top down. If you hike further into the canyon you can scramble up and over. I too was unsure of the plates. I just climbed it delicately.
@@lane.mathis cool thanks again for the hard work I hope you bolt more out there!
Just tried this route and it felt so hard for a 7a. That pebble move was insane.
I think that move is probably a bit height dependent. We all just rocked over, no pulling. The three of us that developed it all thought the crux was pretty low on the route on pitch 1. Maybe bolt one or two?
Yes. I think being tall really helps on that move. The pebble crux was between bolts 3 and 4.
Can you say what the doc is gonna be about? I can't get enough mountaineering stories.
I'm still in the "discovery" phase, so-to-speak.
@@lane.mathis Exciting! Enjoy the journey, good luck and congrats on the footage.
Those mountains are beautiful!
YAY PIZ! So glad to see he's still at it, all of it! I had the privilege of being one of his students (@Pomona), he was one of my favorite teachers. Outdoor club was the best, he would take us rock climbing, hiking, camping, spelunking, you name it we did it. I learned so much from this man! Piz, if you see this, thank you so much!
need wd40
nice
scary
So it's just like golf
Exactly ⛳
Nice. 😌
All the boys in the world thank you for showing us this beautiful rock crush.
Destroying beautiful rock formations is not cool. There should be a fine or some kind of punishment. Rock climbers may lose their climbing right if the can't respect nature.
This is pretty standard when it comes to climbing development.
Love the chicken cry😂❤
Wow!!!
Wow this is so dangerous. Just stay away
Good to be on the right side of gravity
So if you were climbing the other side of the mountain, you'd have.... Brokeback Mountain! Ladies and gentleman, I thank you very much!
Wow good thing no one was under neath that
At that time you ask yourself why u arnt running at the park instead
The sound of the rocks breaking is satisfying
This sound like call bell😂
Well that was a little bit loose wasn't it
Yea but that needed to be done, anchors can be reset, life's can't be replaced , well done boys
I love how we're out here destroying natural rock faces So some pretentious hippie can climb it. Stop fucking up nature dickheads
You stuck to that rock like spiderman...is there something you ain't telling us bro 🤔
His name is PeePee Parker
Rock ! ! !
Yes
As a rigger I have to write you up for not attaching the safety cable to that huge rock😂
Me watching: "Come on, you can do it! ... Yes... Yeeees!!!... Oh f*ck... Yes!!!...oh nooo...😂😂😂
Hey Bill, are you ok down there?!
Keep facking around. You soon find out you are that rock.
Dude you look so nervous
He died from nerves after this.
I was terrified on this route. I have been climbing 12 years and have not been scared like that for a long time!
I did this once 700ft up and it shook the whole wall and scared me so bad I wanted to puke
👹
This is exactly the reason why some free climbers who think they are invincible, eventually will fall to their death !!
Sometimes
that is a massive flake.
Has anybody shown Alex Honnold this video lol
Росияин уже прошёл бы испытание
the climb just went up a grade before your eyes
Nah, it went down, look at the new surface
😮😮😮
위에서 잡아 주는데 무엇이 걱정 이야.힘들기는 하겠지만.
Чего он хочет
Чего хочешь
The best part was the bolts
The debris field wasn’t a tip off???
Just research about giant petrified tree, mud flood You gonna understand what mountains really are
Lmfao
