Why are you on RUclips talking about The Wire where you don’t do content and ignore your fans. We have no need of you posting this.
If you ever post the rest of these I'd love to watch this series.
Love seeing Richie's arch. He was the toughest nut to crack. Hope to see your reactions to what's left.
I loved this episode n at the same time i hated it. It gaves us insight into how and why Carmy n Sugar are so traumatized. Just watching the episode makes the viewer so stressed out. The cast is excellent. Jamie Lee Curtis being Donna is *chef's kiss* her character, even if doesn't appear too much, every time she appears she steals the spotlight for sure. The other cameos are fantastic too, Bob Odenkirk (i guess you haven't watched Breaking bad or Better call Saul, highly recommended btw) also John Mulaney (comedian), Sarah Paulson (great actress). Such a great episode
Claire's character would be perfect for Carmy but the problem is Carmy, more specifically his trauma. He can't do 2 things at once, like a relationship n work. Because of his trauma he's ised to give it all to one thing n being completely focus on that. The moment there's a "distraction" things start to go bad, even if they don't, with him, because he is, basically, responsible for the whole thing, being the head chef, anything that happens he feels responsible for so there's no freaking way everything will go perfect with how chaotic everything is. Good episode tho, learned more background about Claire
What's up with your RUclips Fan Base. Your not doing The Wire on here anymore? If not please post it, So we can stop looking for it.🤨
The emotional roller-coaster that this show takes the viewer.... *chef's kiss*
Please keep reacting to it! It's SO GOOD!!!
This show was insane in many ways. This was filmed in one shot, that's why it was shorter than all the other episodes but it was so intense n stressful it was insane. Syd n Marcus were not cool because they acrually were the reasons why the whole thing was chaotic n they didn't take accountability, instead they just left, not cool at all. Great episode tho
Calling the cops was a huuuuge step for Richie.
Everything is great about this show. Each character, either it was Richie at the beginning, or Tina, they refused the change but now little by little she's buying into it. The whole arch of the characters is amazing.
I enjoy your reactions. You don't drag along the intro nor the outro, nice and simple. I mean the show speaks for itself, we react to it but i've watched some reactions where the video is like50 mins or an hour and the show reaction is no more than 20 mins n then just the reactors talking before n after, i mean on a few episodes it's nice because the episodes have been sooo loades with info or a lot has happened in them but not every single episode. Noce n simple is better most of the time imo.
You: "Cooking is an art" Me: "oh you're gonna love this show then, even when this is not mainly about the food per se" It's an awesome show
So this channel's just done then huh
What happened to these reactions? You posted the first two 3 months ago.
Heck no! I would never sever.
This show is so intriguing!
Hey Jan👋🏿
Americans are fine with supporting murderer's but get upset over Mosley making a speech 😂😂
You're terrible at math.😄
Your 'headspace' is the mission; always the mission. They pound that into you.
Yes, there were translators in the company. The two we see in this series are David Webster (who gave the Dutch boy chocolate) , and Joe Liebgott. You’ll get to know both of them better as the series continues.
The reveal about Mr. Scott is fantastic. Really makes his character a lot more compelling. Although admittedly I don't think they had planned for this in season 1 because there are some inconsistencies but even if it is a retcon then it is a welcome one.
JAN, where are you. I miss you and I was hoping to see you reaction to The Wire season 3
I was today years old when i realized that the woman playing Bea Russell is the mother in GONE BABY GONE 😮
it’s James Mac Cavoy one of the replacement
The Netherlands were conquered and brutally occupied by Nazi troops in 1940….they hated the German’s and resisted ….and hid Dutch Jews…..this scene is the liberation of the Netherlands…Operation Market Garden….France was freed…then Netherlands, Belgium… up to the border of Nazi Germany….like most occupied countries, the people hated and suffered for years under the Nazis…who were brutal….the women who slept with German soldiers usually did it willingly …in return for food, clothes, dinner dates….things the rest of the people were denied. Men who collaborated with the Germans were shot by the Dutch resistance.
6:07 its not comfort thing, he is colorblind and doesn't want to get kicked out of the Army.
Orange is the color of the Dutch Royal Family. The Germans were still unorganized and many of the landings below Arnhem were uncontested and tows were liberated, initially.
The women being shamed in the town square were not Germans but rather Dutch collaborators. You are right in that some of the people who worked with the Germans did not necessarily support them; many of them were just doing what they felt they needed to in order to get by. Unfortunately for them, the Dutch resistance (most resistance groups, really) didn't see a difference.
10.12 the language that Web spook was German (Sprechen Sie English), Web was a translator German-English. Dutch and German are Germanic languages, so the Dutchman understood him. ;-)
It should be remembered that Anne Frank was sheltered by Dutch citizens in Amsterdam.
You get on average 1 combat medic per 30 soldiers. Sometimes some get killed early and of course that ratio greatly increases
Not all Germans supported the Nazis, but, those that didn't also didn't resist. They stood by, and, did nothing, while millions were killed, in THEIR name. They were just as guilty as the Nazis.
LT brewer, the LT shot in the neck who survived later went on to work in the CIA & did CIA shit in Vietnam 20 years later. There was a funny story about him being at the pentagon while working for the CIA he ran into a man who also was there was when was shot in Holland but didn’t know he survived at the pentagon. The man who didn’t know Brewer survived said he thought he saw a ghost and nearly passed out when he saw him alive. Please look up the Foundation for Adopting Graves American Cemetery Margraten. The people of margraten “adopt” a grave of a fallen American soldier that helped liberate holland. They place flowers, learn about the men, and even connect with family here in the states. Some graves get passed down generations & they take it very seriously.
The resistance in a lot of the nations used kids just because kids are ignored in most circumstances. As to the communication Webster was proficient in German which is really close to Dutch. We now have a lot of good translators for nations.
19:30 Just some info on Winters (the guy who didn’t get his helmet shot off) and Nixon (the guy who did). Winters came from a poor family and needed to work his way through college. Nixon came from a rich family and attended Yale for two years before leaving to enlist in the Army (this will become a minor point in a future episode). Winters was a monkish introvert who read all the infantry manuals he could get his hands on. Nixon was a party animal who loved to drink. Winters was a field commander, while Nixon was in Intelligence, which meant that he helped translate the data received from the field into information that people could use. The pair met up during Officer Candidate School, and their friendship started from there.
The reason the Lieutenant wanted him to tap him on the leg when the light goes off is because he's Color Blind, he wouldn't be able to tell i the light that came on was Green or Red.
During this small battle is was Not far apart from each other just field between them, like the artillery guns are in the end of this block while the barn house the other end of the block just hedges then field then other hedges
I have missed your reactions but family and real life should always come first.👍
If you meet an older English gentleman who insists Montgomery was the best allied general, say, "Market Garden" and walk away.
That guy was a fool
My Grandpa (Mom's Dad) was a Scotsman in the British Army served under Montgomery, he despised the man!! He went as far as to forbid my Grandma from naming one of my uncles after "Monty" To Be fair on my Dad's side of the family, his uncle in the U.S. Army served under MacArthur! He greatly disliked the man!
If available there should be one medic per squad so one in around ten.
I was afraid that the series was to much for you and you gave up on it. Glad you are still covering this. I hoped everything worked out for you and that happiness continues to find you. God bless.
Nope, the people who collaborated made that choice. The Dutch suffered real bad under the Germans. They sold out for a better life, while the rest suffered. They sold their country and fellow citizens out. Then they paid the price afterwards. They were basically traitors.
"It's the comfort that he needs, I don't think he can look at it." Yes, that was my reaction too. Most people think the lieutenant asks the sergeant to tap his leg because he's colorblind and can't see the difference between green and red, which is plausible too, but I feel him being anxious and not wanting to look at the light is more plausible still. About translators in general and David Webster here specifically: I don't think (but I could be wrong) that people in combat units were specifically trained to speak German or Dutch or French or whatever; I think it's more that some people already knew some foreign languages (through previous education, or maybe because of family ties or whatever), and then they got distributed over the different units as well as possible. In the case of Easy Company as we see them in Band of Brothers, both David Webster and Joe Liebgott speak German. In this episode Webster addressed the Dutch farmer in German, not in Dutch: Webster didn't speak German, but assumed (or hoped) that the farmer would either speak German (quite a lot of Dutch people speak German as well) or at least understand it well enough (quite reasonable assumption, since Dutch and German are quite closely related; very roughly speaking one could say that Dutch is in a way more or less in the middle between German and English). Turns out the farmer spoke English (as many Dutch people do), conveniently for those American soldiers. As for when the older guy was shouting "Weg, weg!" ("Away, away!"), I think it was not as much a language barrier, but rather a general communication issue. I speak Dutch, and I have the same reaction as Webster to what the guy was saying. It can mean both things. I'll probably not be the only one to say this: but there's a good movie specifically about Market Garden (the operation depicted in this episode) by Richard Attenborough: "A Bridge Too Far", based on the book of the same name by Cornelius Ryan. It has many famous actors: Sean Connery, Gene Hackman, Anthony Hopkins, Robert Redford, and others. Could be a good idea to watch, either as a reaction on your channel or just for yourself.
10:15 The army needed translators to communicate with the local people for gathering supplies, possible enemy locations, and just so they can generally know what’s going on. So, they would choose people like Webster(on the left) and other guys who either went to college or just knew any of the European languages of where they were to help. Also, in the Netherlands, they speak both Dutch and German. In this scene they were speaking German
I really enjoyed your insight and thoughts...and to answer your question, while Holland hasn't had actual child labour since the 1800s, the WW2 Dutch resistance did sometimes use children for intelligence gathering (so did ALL the German occupied countries...children make for inconspicuous spies).
7:52 Here we see Winters and fellow officers popping up the collars on their jackets. This is to hide their officer rank markings. Even in the circumstances they are being careful if there is an enemy sniper; they would shoot the officers, so they hide their rank to not be a bigger target
Welcome back!😃
The Lt. was color blind, that's why he wanted Martin to tap him on the leg when it came on.
I was just going to type the same thing
Has there ever been verification of this? I've heard other reactors suggest this. I've always thought the situation was along the lines of what she suggested. I thought he was afraid he would freeze up and need the prompt. There are only 2 lights. It shouldn't be tough to memorize which was which.
@@farfrompoo I agree here. Not only that there are two lights next to each other, but also because it would be hard to make your way into the airborne, let alone become a Lieutenant with colourblindness. Harry Welsh for example was actually rejected as parachutist and fighter pilot because his eyesight wasn't good enough, so he cheated his way in. Not saying it's impossible, but it would be tough. Besides, that guy here is Lt. Peacock and he was actually quite nervous and indecisive. We see this in the series, but apparently that was also a problem in real life. That's why I think it was nervousness.
