Bought this boat a few years ago. It was in rough shape, but I brought it back to life. Upgraded from a Achilles inflatable. The inflatable rode like crap and wasn’t very usable for me. The Livingston boat rides 100% better and can carry more in a 10’ boat size. I mainly use this boat for freshwater in California, but will sometimes use it around San Francisco Bay.

    what battery setup do you have? How long can you ride on average before the battery dies? I have an old specialized enduro just like this, so this would be a good way to make use of my old bike. Great video you have here.

      It’s a 48v 13ah battery. I wanted something on the smaller and lighter side. I normally do around 15 miles on the trails. This is on some steep climbs out of canyons. Rides like this leaves me with around 40% left in the battery. This is usually on PAS 3/4 . For my rides it’s perfect. Most of my rides are steep technical stuff. If it’s on some rolling trails it probably has longer range. I’ve been thinking about a 48v 17ah battery because I think they are the same size. I also heard that going to a 52v will give some more capacity. Thanks for the compliment! This bike is fun.

    Thanks Terry, enjoyed this follow-up to your earlier video - thinking of converting my 2009 Spec End. Do you find the BBS02 is enough for most of your riding, and how do you think it would cope with lots of big hills?

    • @terryquan9052
      @terryquan9052 3 месяца назад

      For the way I ride BBS02 feels perfect. I actually have never touched a HD but I know they are a little bigger and heavier. I really wanted to keep the weight down. This bike is 48 lbs. On steep hills I drop into lower gears and spin a little faster. As it’s built now it’s stronger than store bought emtbs.

      How is it holding up?

    • @MarvinWestmaas
      @MarvinWestmaas 21 день назад

      Yeah, with current Tonghsen Tsdz8 drives being available, I wouldn't recommend Bafang for anyone. Before, with the tsdz2(b) I am using, it's not on the same performance level even with OSF ( though ofc, torque sensor does allow 'natural riding' instead of a cadence sensor + throttle ). My Giant Talon 27.5 with the Tonghen will do about 40km/h +- 5km depending on the wind, and that's with OSF set around 750 watt. And I have no doubt I have much better riding control, because of the torque sensor. Feel a bit sad I didn't wait a month, the tsdz8 was released already just not available yet and no good reviews. Now, both of those are solved, and reviews shown it fixed all previous issues with tsdz2 ( comparatively weak spindle design, lower torque compared with for instance Bafang ) and it peaks around 1100w with stock firmware. So, cheaper as Bafang and comes with torque sensor while pushing out comparable power ( BBS02 750 also peaks much higher, tsdz8 is also a '750' rated motor ). Ofc, you can go more expensive and look at Toseven for instance, but I don't really see the point now Tongshen released tsdz8. Perhaps for DM01 if you want something like a BBSHD with a torque sensor, but adding so much weight changes the handling to much imo.

      2uneak these things don’t have scuppers. Just foam filled sections. I do carry a bilge pump with alligator clips and hose. Ready to go if needed. Might mount one on each side and run the hose out the hull.

    I’m a about to fix up a 12ft Livingston that used to be my grandfathers. I’m nervous about screwing holes in the boat tho. Any advice/ cautions

      Billy Huss nothing to really worry about. Use 5200 or 4200 if the holes below water. I use boat life caulk for anything above water. When I bought this boat it had probably 150 holes. Had to fill each one with epoxy. Sounds worst than it actually was.

    I found a 1988 14 foot livingston for sale $600. No trailer or motor. Thinking about getting it. Your 12 footer is set up nicely.

      Anotherflores91 that’s not a bad price. If a 14’ comes across my local I’ll probably buy it and stash it away.

      @@terryquan9052 Hey Terry. I am Larry from Chesapeake VA. I just got a 14 footer and I think I have water in the hull. I saw some of your comments about water in the hull and would like to get your comments. Actually talking to you would be great. God bless. Larry

    My trolling motor wants slip off back of my Livingston

    • @terryquan9052
      @terryquan9052 3 года назад

      I also have a mount for the mini kota on the transom. I milled a pocket on a piece of aluminum so that the motor can't creep up

    Where did you find bracket for mounting trolling motor on back of transom

    • @terryquan9052
      @terryquan9052 4 года назад

      It's a chunk of aluminum that I machined and put a lip on. The lip keeps the motor from lifting up.

    When you added your trim tabs what did you do about the drain plugs?

    • @terryquan9052
      @terryquan9052 5 лет назад

      Hunter24 The drain plugs on this one are not at the transom. They are in the floor. I might glass in a tube and run the drain out the transom

      Thank you for the reply just picked one up, mine has an older 9.9 evinrude, did it have a hard time getting on plane without the trim tabs? That’s why I asked, if so i think I might have enough room to fit the tabs before my drain plugs.

      Hunter24 i just put tabs on all my boats. With 9.9 hp you need all the help you can get. I do load this little boat down with coolers, 2-3 people, and fishing gear. With this load I needed a 6p prop. When I’m solo I switch to a 8p.

      Terry Quan I just took it out the first time with 2 people and lost half my speed and engine would cavitate off and on, was doing 30khmh solo now Down to 15, I would think I need to switch props? Thank you for the info greatly appreciated

      Hunter24 solo the boat will go 17 mph. With 2 - 3 people and gear it will go 13-14 mph. I usually kick my feet up and cruise at 12 mph.

    Is your boat foam filled in front and back?

    • @terryquan9052
      @terryquan9052 5 лет назад

      Jonathan Aceves it was but the foam was wet. I dug it all out and sealed them with epoxy in the corners. I use the area for storage now. They are air sealed with the covers so hopefully still buoyant

      I’m amazed how the little boat handle the chop in the bay! How did you get foam out? Did you cut the tops of the benchs?

    • @terryquan9052
      @terryquan9052 5 лет назад

      Jonathan Aceves I cut 8” deck plates into each area. Then just dig out all the foam. The rear area was waterlogged but the front compartments where dry still. I then poured epoxy into the cut open area and sealed them up. They are watertight when the deck plates are screwed in. Place to keep stuff dry. I also have batteries in the rear compartment.

      The pics of your boat on IG look bad ass bro! I’m restoring same boat currently I know your rig will be a big inspiration for my build! One last question, when you cut open the benchs was there plywood or just foam?
