I had forgotten how good this band was! AND, we had personality (and a certain cocky attitude). Not only was the music great, but what a vibe.
I got my stats wrong !!
I SAW HIM LIVE IN 1982 !! HE WAS 15 YEARS OLD !!!
I don't always listen to Count Basie, but when I do so do the neighbors!
How can you not like this
Tell me they weren't having fun with this one!
Fantastic; I don’t know Duffy that well but this video of him is amazing
WOW. Great band, great humour too. Bravo.
Love him…wish I could remember the name of the cd i used to have??
Just beautiful
First saw Duffy Jackson in Puerto Rico in '74. I was playing drums with a lounge act and he was in the main showroom with Sammy Davis Jr. Saw him backstage before he went on. Here was this guy with a crewcut, thick glasses who walked with a noticeable limp. Think he had one built up shoe. I was wondering if this was a joke or gimmick. Then he went on and tore the place up, powering that big band. I was impressed! Later, in the mid 2000s saw him at Disneyland with a quartet. Very versatile & still impressed me.
Duffy and the whole band is SWINGING!
His playing is tight as hell but it’s like he’s trying to beat the drums and cymbals into submission. I’ve never seen such aggressive rim clicks
In. A. Suit. In a freaking suit. kill me now. hahaha 1/4 = 300 (and up). Impossible. Much respect!
What's up with the quality of the video? Sometimes it seems to speed up, other times it seems to slow down, and this is reflected in the audio. The audio sounds distorted, like a record slowing down.
Possibly due to being Copied from 40 year old videotape that has been played to death, thus stretching and the like will cause problems . JMO
Woow
Showman for sure. Hope he had some Nitroglycerine pills for the inevitable heart attack. Givin it his sll. Loveit !!!!!!
Why do the craziest drummers always dress in suits and look like librarians….?
This drummer is an absolute legend!!!!!! truly!!!!
I have never even heard of Duffy. He is an awesome player! So many great players out there that we never get to hear about. What a shame.
Le grand, le vrai jazz !
He IS one of those consummate journeymen that come along from time to time. FABULOUS!
Fantastic ! I have to say that of all the Count Basie drummers, Sonny Payne was my favorite. He was so explosive !
Dad gum. I used to play my crash cymbals up high, but that was quite extraordinary.
Think of one that was played !!! scary good
WOW, Duffy Jackson is fast... he is actually superhumanly fast!
In 1964 I was 17 and went to see Count Basie with Joe Williams and Damita Jo. At the time Rufus Jones speedy. I was knocked out and have continued to be so with that swinging Orchestra stylings all my life. The kid from Red Bank rocks Duffy is the dude
Made my day. Thanks a lot!
Never heard of him before. I am impressed! It has always amazed me how these great drummers like Duffy, Buddy Rich, Louis Belson and Joe Morello, to name a few, played furiously while wearing a dress shirt, necktie and sport coat!
I was super lucky to have had Duffy as a private lesson instructor! This was back in 2006 in Southeast Florida where he was living at the time. I was attending a jazz camp as a very brand new drummer and he made me feel right at home while I figured out this thing called jazz. 😂 he told me if Florida gets one more hurricane, He will move to Nashville and that is exactly what he ended up doing. Duffy told me to keep in touch but somehow that just slipped by the wayside and when I finally remembered to reach out, it was too late. What a superb talent and an even more superb person!
The place is cocking yeah
I saw Count Basie live a couple years before this. Butch Miles was his drummer than and he was fantastic. Didn't know about Duffy Jackson but he's right up there with Butch!
What gas! We taped Duffy in our studio (BRT Video/Recording) 40 years ago. He could scat with the best of them, too.
wow. Saw Duffy w The Count at Hollywood bowl...mid 70's.. Forgot all about this... thank you!
He's pretty good...just lacking a bit of energy.
😅
LOL
You’r kidding
Wow! Duffy!! Look like Tama Imperial Stars.
Oh Heck Yea!!
Duffy...absolute powerhouse.
When Count Basie gives you a shout out, you BETTER represent! Go Duffy!
I remember watching this on tv back when it came out. Duffy has always been one of my favorite drummers ever since. He was an absolute beast ! Heaven has a great drummer
What a great band! Swing was our finest popular music, imo.
Just Phantastic !! 👍👍👍
Count Basie conducting a drum solo...like Frank Zappa...awesome
Always remembered him ! Only saw him a couple of times but,to this day never forgot Duffy!! Very inspiring!
mad one love this man,,,he looks like he works in insurance company,
Looks like George Costanza plays like a world-class drummer.
😂!!!!!!!!!!
😊🔆
Duffy, met this guy at Gilly's in Dayton nice guy
I love and miss my pal Duffy. RIP ✝️ until I see you again!
It's sad Duffy doesn't get mentioned more often!! You could tell he had the passion for the music and just felt it!! He drove the shit out of that band!!
Yes he did, unbelievable!
This guy is a beast and I never heard of him when I was growing up in the seventies and eighties! Should have been in downbeats pole drummers deserving of a wider recognition!
@@michaelgawel5823 Well said I could not agree more!! As a drummer myself I didn't discover him until The early 90's
