Hi Larry, I just started with the star gazing with my 8 and 6 yr old sons. We came across your channel and learning from your experiences and teachings. Haven't seen any new video since 2 years. Just came by to say hi and find out if you are doing well.

Excellent video and a solid overview of the basics of refractors. A short refractor like the one you just received is one of the best tools to learn the night sky.

Great video for us newbies! With the new Finder TW2 about to release, we shall see how good the AI in the imager is at correcting things like Chromatic aberrations etc. 71 year old retired veteran here with very limited discretionary income. Being able to get the new model coming out as an investor, for about $170 less than its retail price when it goes to full production, made the deal for me. We shall see how it turns out!

My sincere congratulations for your productions! I´m also an "old gazer" (63 yo) from a very far away land in the southern hemisphere, speaking a different language (but fortunately very able in English) and with an approach to astronomy almost identical to yours. I made my own 150mm Newtonian on a Dobsonian mount. Not too impressive a size, but it works great and it renders wonderful views since I´m lucky enough to have very clear skies around here (every time I drive 200 km to my father_in_law´s farm). I find your videos long, wordy... soothing and wonderful! And I love those beautiful trees behind your windows along with some squirrel eventually running across the background. your words are very motivating and inspiring, and that, to me, is what makes them so valuable. Don´t change a bit! Thanks a lot!

Man, I don't know what happened to you. I get the feeling this may be the last video I'll watch from you, so I keep saving it, and saving it, hoping to see another one. I think your videos was amazingly, calm, down to earth, and pleasent. Also helpful.. I also think you could have made many videos just abt stargazing memories, hardships, and so on. Those few short moments you talked about was very entertaining and interesting. I as many others would definitelt love to see some more videos from you, if you're well. Don't wanna save this one forever! :) Really Hope your doing well Larry, aka Old Gazer (great name!), but I also do begin to think you're not (or at least you might not be around around. Sure hope I'm wrong!!). See you soon!

I also have star charts and/or my planisphere with me. I've got star apps on my smartphone, but even with their night mode, they can be bright enough to destroy your night vision. First thing I do before I go out and adapt my eyes is turn my phone off or put it on silent and keep it in my pocket. Looking through the telescope and then finding Uncle Bob is calling you for no good reason will wreck your night vision and concentration. If I'm in my back garden then I simply leave it in the house. It's much more useful learning how to read star charts or how to use a planisphere than it is to rely on an app on your phone. Being able to navigate the night sky is a huge plus, and after I taught my kids how to read star charts, they can find their way around now without any help.

I have the same telescope and a Nikon DSLR. The T-ring and adapter are from Celestron. My question. I did not put a lens inside the set up between the camera and the telescope. The image was very small. How do you put a lens in the adapter tube. I have seen other set up with screws the secure a lens. I love you videos.. old geezer gazer there too. Your advice about being patient really hit home! A year ago, I was brand new, and thought a 10 inch Dobsonian could see DSOs in Bortle 7 to 8 skies!! I would look and search and find nothing, sometimes for hours! I was getting discouraged, until I saw your video about being patient, and looking in darker skies! Suddenly, globular clusters I couldn't find, I could locate! Thank you for these videos! They do help!

Great videos i have watched 4 of them from the 1st tutorial to this one. I started trying astrophotography with just camera lenses and a tripod i got some good pictures with the kit lens and a 300mm lens, but i wanted to get more closer and more detailed pictures of the moon ect. I got a starter telescope just to try out and got the T ring adapter to connect my Cannon EOS 250D to the telescope, I thought i bought just a basicT ring adapter ( just a 1 piece tube ) after watching you 1st tutorial on how to connect your camera to the telescope i took a closer look at my T Ring Adapter that connects my camera to the telescope. I found that it breaks down so i can drop a lens into the T Ring long tube , i can use it without a lens inside , i can take off the long tube and use the shorter tube i found i can use the 2 inch diameter to fit to my telescope or the smaller one i also found that i can use it with just the ring no tubes connected. Mow i can't wait for clear skies to try out and experiment with different lengths of tube or no tube, the smaller diameter or the 2 inch diameter , with our without a lens. I'm not expecting fantasic results as its only a budget telescope ( not spending £1000's just incase its not for me or i'm useless at it. the telescope is a Celestron Starsense Explorere LT 80AZ I think its 80mm focal Length. These Videos sure have helped Thanks.

Larry, once again you have provided excellent information. I love the Messier catalog link. I bookmarked it. Having had a manual telescope for many years, I must say that buying a goto scope has greatly increased my enjoyment of the night sky. I love that once the scope is aligned, I just enter in the planet, deep space object and the scope automatically finds it. For me, it was a game changer. Thanks again.
