Great vibes and video. This channel needs S M Zeus!
I need this for my pt-88
Is this for sale?
Wish I'd kept my old mt800 when i was a kid.
I've been looking for something like this for about 40 years for my MT800
I think crystal glasses would have sounded better
what am the jumper for ? great video by the way
C'mon please make units of HardPlAYer and Casiotone SD RomPack... here a buyer
thanks :) Q1: what is the name of the program to flash the MCU? Q2: what are the connector who fits in U3? - the 6 pins for programing
I think your biggest problem is the chimes themselves. The aluminium is not a very good material for resonance and tone, and it dulls the sound to a bastardized version of what it could be. I get it, brass or bronze is really expensive and no one's got the money to waste on that, and for aluminium, it sounds great. You've got a great set-up and it's absolutely genius, and I really hope I can make my own someday. (I'm here because I'm planning a design of a carillon tower with tubular bells for a drawing. Architecture geek and all.) Anyways, good job, and it's so much faster than the older prototype! I really want to build my own now! (Here's a good video of the difference in tone between aluminium and bronze, the good stuff's at about 17:15. ruclips.net/video/4wOwXSzlD1E/видео.html)
Hi John, So what about your Carillion project? I hope you finished the build as its already been 2 years. Do let know more on it. I'm curious as I'm currently trying a hand to make Tubular bell with ringer for my church.
@@nhlf3031 unfortunately, I have not. That project fell to the back burner as college decided to make a chewtoy of my ass, but I do hope to get back to it soon! I'd like to add it to the peak of a house as part of a clock or something. Plans are still in the works!
Almost 10 years later: Still roxx!
Wow! 10yrs. Just recently purchased an AY 3 9810 chip for experiments with arduino
Hello there. Excellent video. Has the HC firmware been released yet? Looking to make a few of these to fix some C64's I have and want the best firmware I can get. Thanks
caña!!!!!!
Genial, Tola! :D
Very helpful video, thanks. btw, the music i awesome :-) ... a source for more of this anywhere?
futurama song please? amazing !
Suerte !
Which instrument did you use for tunning each chime? I am working in my home made tubular bell but have no idea how to achieve the right tone for the very first pipe in order to continue tunning the rest of the pipes using the well known long/frecuency/diameter/note formulas. thank you for writing. Kind regards...
Saludos Tolaemon!!!...
At one of the MAX train stations in Beaverton, Oregon, there is a sculpture of metal bars that is played by solenoids when the train arrives, much like these chimes.
Chimes are meant to be "out of tune." I can't remember why.
needs a bit of a tuning :/
Thank you Terrmotooorrr!!
Amazing machine, sounds great! Good job
No problem, they also did a 16pin YMZ284 without the 4/8MHz selection pin and the /TEST pin.
Thanks for the information is the first time I hear about it!
I looked around and apparently the YMZ294 is this chip with one mixed output and no parallel in an 18 pin package. They seem very rare though outside Japan.
Thanks. I don't know any YM2149 equivalent in a smalle package. This IC is from the begining of the 80's and by then SMD components where very rare. In fact YM2149 is a licensed version of the AY - 3891x ( all the versions of that IC where in DIP encapsulate ).
Awesome project! Do you know of a YM2149 or equivilent that had a smaller package? Something surface mount perhaps? I'm building a project and want to include this chip but DIP40 is far too big!
@amixgris There are two types of files used to dump the melodies generated by the AY-38912: .AY files and .YM files ( they are used indistinctly to store ZX, CPC or ATARI ST tunes, the only difference is the clock ) . Search on google for these two type of files, you will find a lot.
Need a video of these playing the song "Tubular Bells" by Oldfield
man, this stuff roxx!
hey, el petit homenet verd de 8 bits.
GRREAT !
Let me explain: in the 1890's, DeKleist built an automatic set of tubular chimes playing from a pinned cylinder. This used a pneumatic system between the keys reading the barrel and the hammers striking the tubes. The theatre photoplayers made by Seeburg and North Tonawanda (played by hand or by paper rolls) likewise had sets of tubular chimes in amongst the pipes and sound effects. Deagan automated their giant tower chimes with rolls, and finally, the pipe organ builders made sets of their own.
Sure, they're fun looking with the arms swinging around, but you have to realize that Eugene DeKleist, J.P. Seeburg, North Tonawanda Musical Instrument Works, Carl Frei, J.C. Deagan, and all the theatre pipe organ builders beat you guys to it over 75 years ago.
Wouldn't it be the opposite, the spectrum version of the tune played at the amstrad cpc clock speed? If you load Saboteur 2 on any CPC emulator it doesn't sound like in the video. I used the CPC version as a guide to make a cover of this tune last summer, so I'm quite familiar with it :)
I have to agree with the others here. I came to hear what the actual instrument sounded like, not some heavy rhythm track that all but obliterates the sound of the tubular bells. Could you please post a version that lets us hear it? Thanks.
What a horrible beat you have put over this video, sort of ruins the whole thing.
I'll start working on MIDI soon. I try to make the most with my spare time, but you know, some times it is difficult. I'll post a video when I have something interesting to show : )
I don't know... on my Amstrad CPC sounded like in the video. Maybe you played this game on a Spectrum ZX. On this computer, the AY-38912 was connected to a 1,7 Mhz oscillator instead of to a 1Mhz one. This makes the internal oscillator oscillate nearly at de double of frecueny than in an Amstrad CPC. In other words: setting the same frecuency in the same AY but with the 1,7Mhz oscillator causes the note to sound nearly one octave above ( the double of frecuency ).
