More everyday driving 🤔🤦‍♂️

Just your every day corner cutters & poor lane discipline in this one.
Tractors & Petrol-head moments 😲

There's some REALLY big tractors on these little twisty roads - In the first clip, I saw it coming, but in the second clip, I didn't (till the last minute) - always drive with care on the country roads! 😊👍

Death Wish Deers & Squirrel!! 😲
Просмотров 485Месяц назад
Both on the same day!! The first deer made it across with no problem, but the second deer panicked and I think (I hope) he or she went back up the way he came. I couldn't bring myself to look in the rear view mirror, as the big lorry was approaching! Then there's the squirrel - blink and you'll miss it!! Can't believe how many of these little guys get killed on the road - they are sooo fast. 😁
Tesco truck nearly takes out street light!

I can see the Tesco truck (parked in a really awkward place) just before I approach the traffic lights, so I'm not sure if I did the right thing or not, but decided to sit back, as there was a build up of cars behind him, but watch the street lamp as he pulls away - think he clipped it with his tail-end! Oops!! 😬

Van reverses into moving traffic 🤦‍♀️
Просмотров 554Месяц назад
I think this van misjudged the turning - but I never expected him/her to reverse out again without knowing it was safe! - If that was me, I think I would have drove a bit further on, till they could safely turn around and come down for the opposite direction, then indicate to turn right (easier this way, as you could then see when the road was clear) 😊👍
Is it a cat or a dog?? Funny one 😂

My sister and I debating whether this was a cat or dog, a bit harder to see on the dashcam, but turns out it WAS a dog, which just wanted to roll around on the road and have its tummy scratched 😂😂

What's your thoughts on this one? - Ok, so it's not always safe to stop - but in this instance - as you'll see from the rear view - the cars behind me were a good distance away, so had plenty of time to see my brake lights & slow down. But had the traffic been a bit busier or coming around too fast - I might just have carried on, as it wouldn't have been safe to stop. Then on the other hand - t...

    I had a "farmer with cow crossing" the other day when I took my son to countryside. We didn't mind it, it was funny to be honest, they just kept on coming though, must have been well over a hundred cows. Yeah that truck moment was definitely a "poopy pants" one!

    The car would be a Ford Popular. I do believe a Ford Prefect would have a towel around the shoulders 😉 As for the first clip, those sheep are better at using all the road and merge in turn than all tge sheeple driving cars 😁

    From a German who lives near the French border: Its a common Thing in France. Drivers usually signal left (inwards in Europe) until they are about to take the next exit, at which point they signal right (outwards in Europe).

    I'm not justifying tailigating, I want to make that clear. But I think most drivers are going to drive close behind if you are going 20mph on a 60mph straight road. I've seen a lot worse driving than what the Volvo driver did here.

    • @DriveSmartDash
      @DriveSmartDash Час назад

      Yep, I have actually seen worse too, but in this case - as I said, I wasn't intimidated by the volvo - they had plenty time & space to overtake me and then the learner (if they were in such a hurry) but as I was about to turn right a few yards further on, I thought it would be pointless overtaking the learner & putting them under more stress. (But hey, that's just me) Thanks for your comment though 😊👍

    I dont know, but I know I am making the odd mistake since passing my test. I guess the next year is really my true learning on the roads. Went out on motorway for first time ever and drove my son to school this morning and picked him up later also. Got to do it, got to keep going out on my own otherwise I won't build my confidence up.

      @DriveSmartDash 2 дня назад

      Well done Alex! The more you're out driving, the more your confidence grows (well it did for me anyway) and yes, we all make mistakes - this may have been a mistake from the driver in front - but if they did it deliberately - it's just wrong 🤔

  • @smilerbob
    @smilerbob 3 дня назад

    I wasn’t taught it but I know some that believe they were taught to signal right until their exit and then signal left. I think a discussion on other channels has shown those people to be incorrect in their beliefs and most likely someting they picked up after talking to their mate down the pub one Friday night 😁

      @DriveSmartDash did you feel nervous driving at first or were you OK?

    • @DriveSmartDash
      @DriveSmartDash 11 дней назад

      @AlexMitchell-sj4sb Well that's a good question Alex - I was feeling a bit nervous about being in my car for the first time on my own without hubby or my instructor beside me - so hubby & I had planned to go on a short drive the very next day, he was going to follow behind me in his van, just to reassure me. But unfortunately things didn't go to plan - that same night, hubby became terribly sick, throwing up & excruciating headache!! I was on the phone to NHS24 explaining his symptoms & he just wanted a couple of paracetamol & a lie down "I'll be fine" he said!! However, the advisor on the phone told me to get him to A & E as soon as possible, so off we went in my car, (luckily our local hospital is only about 15mins drive) & to cut an already long story short, hubby had actually had a bleed in the brain (aneurism) then had to be blue lighted to Edinburgh to have an immediate operation, so my first time driving home from the hospital on my own is a bit of a blur, but think I was more worried about hubby than thinking - I'm actually driving on my own!! Anyway, luckily all turned out well & big respect to the NHS, hubby pulled through & although still has a few other health issues, he's still making me laugh every day!! Sorry, this is so long Alex - 🤪 My suggestion would be to have your radio on low, or a favourite cd while you're driving, just some quiet background noise and just take some short trips to start off - like the local shop & back or around a quiet industrial estate, I'm sure you'll work it out Alex, you'll be absolutely fine - it is a bit scary at first, but trust me, the confidence does grow 👍 I also still continued to watch all the driving channels on RUclips (and still do!!) We never stop learning!! 😉👍

    I will tell you of some insanity/idiots I was witness to in last few days. On M74 there is the exit to A66 and there was a 1 mile tailback to get on there. We were in the queue and some idiot in a crappy souped up Audi decided to brake suddenly in the middle lane as he wanted to get into the queue/tailback so he could get onto the A66 exit. Absolute numpty nearly caused a pile up. We saw at least 2 drivers pass this numpty and as they overtook him, gave him the middle finger. One truck driver actually swerved his truck towards the Audi as though he wanted to hit it. Maybe he gave him some verbal/middle finger too. Then yesterday near my home, went to cross at a junction next to main road with my 6 year old son. Paused and looked both ways and looked to see if anyone wanted to turn into the junction. There was no one so we started to cross the road. As we got halfway some numpty/chav/ned on a scooter in a tracksuit suddenly zoomed into the junction, no indicators and drove a few feet away from us. I shouted "what the hell you doing you absolute dickhead". He gave me some look and looked at my son and then me and muttered something I couldn't hear and drove off down the road. He was acting like it was our fault. I then shouted some verbal at him. OK someone is gonna say "oh you shouldn't have done that in front of your 6 year old son". OK, what about the idiot on the scooter who nearly ran into us??

    • @DriveSmartDash
      @DriveSmartDash Месяц назад

      @AlexMitchell-sj4sb Jeez Alex! What a nightmare - have you got a dashcam in your car? Would have been good to see that one. As London dashcam says. . . "Always an Audi" 😂 As I've said before, I'm in no way perfect, but the amount of numpties I've caught on my camera beggars belief!! And as for the scooter ned, we've got them up here too - no respect for rules of the road or pedestrians, so I can understand the mouthful you gave him!! Stay safe out there 😊👍

      @DriveSmartDash should have kept it and shown to police but I honestly doubt they would do anything about him (Audi driver not numpty on moped). He was a few cars ahead of us so didn't affect us directly. Someone let him into the queue though. He took advantage of others kindness but could have caused an accident/pile up. Obviously IQ in double digits, I think the only thing I learned from it was he badly needs a brain transplant to improve his IQ.

      @AlexMitchell-sj4sb oh that's good about the test date! But I feel your pain with the garage bill - the joys of owning a car eh! My hubby had been quite handy at diagnosing & fixing any minor problems with the cars we've had, but he doesn't keep in so much good health these days, so I've had one or two visits to the garage and got a shock when we got the bill sent through!! It's mostly the labour you're paying for though. Don't get me wrong - I'm just so grateful to them when I get my car back again & all's sorted!! And we've got a local trustworthy garage that we're on first name terms with all the mechanics, a really nice bunch, so that helps 😊👍

    The rule changes introduced a couple of years ago are confusing, ill-thought-out, and unworkable. Thankfully, there appears to be no penalty for ignoring them.

    • @uzijn
      @uzijn 2 месяца назад

      The penalty is less confidence in the Highway Code and higher risk on the roads. If someone gets knocked down over confusion with the new rules, that's a pretty hefty penalty.

  • @RayScarr69
    @RayScarr69 2 месяца назад

    I have to disagree with this one. The risk of being passed on that wide section by someone not aware of the situation, or even being rear ended by someone not paying attention, outweighs the benefit in my opinion. The pedestrian didn't have a right of way here, clearly didn't expect to be given priority, and other road users would similarly be unexpecting of someone stopping on the exit to a roundabout. I would've let the pedestrian cross when they felt it was safe to do so, probably very soon after I'd carried on my momentum and driven past them.

    • @DriveSmartDash
      @DriveSmartDash 2 месяца назад

      @RayScarr69 actually you are right on this one - I checked the Highway Code (Rule 187) and it states "In all cases, watch out for & give plenty of room to pedestrians who may be crossing the approach or exit roads" - I honestly thought that (if it was safe to do so) you should allow pedestrians to cross - that's why in this particular clip, I checked my rear view first and luckily the 2 cars behind me weren't going particularly fast, so they had time to stop when they seen my brake lights come on. But I hold my hands up ✋️ - I should have just carried on, at least there were no problems this time and now I know (for next time) that I don't "have to" stop!! Anyway, thanks for your comment 😊👍

    • @chrispop99
      @chrispop99 2 месяца назад

      Actually pedestrians and cyclists should be given priority at the mouths of junctions under HWC rule H2. Rule H2 - Rule for drivers, motorcyclists, horse drawn vehicles, horse riders and cyclists At a junction you should give way to pedestrians crossing or waiting to cross a road into which or from which you are turning.

    • @DriveSmartDash
      @DriveSmartDash 2 месяца назад

      @chrispop99 Yeh, but in this instance, we're talking about roundabouts - I always give priority to pedestrians when entering or exiting from a side street for instance, but I think there's confusion (for a few people I've spoken to) when it comes to roundabouts 😖 so, I'm still none the wiser!! 😫

    • @chrispop99
      @chrispop99 2 месяца назад

      @@DriveSmartDash The entrance/exit to a roundabout is still considered the mouth of a junction. FWIW, I took part in the public consultation regarding this, and was strongly against this change, because I believe it will cause more problems than it will solve.I say this as a pedestrian/cyclist/driver.

    • @uzijn
      @uzijn 2 месяца назад

      @@chrispop99 Copy and pasting my comment here for the convenience of others reading this chain: I interpret that as not applying to roundabouts as it’s not really a road you’re turning from or to, whereas a side road clearly applies. With this uncertainty, I maintain that the safer option is to continue on your way.

      @@DriveSmartDash some places in the world not only must you stop for pedestrians but it is illegal to stop in a roundabout. You either have to not enter until your exit is clear. Or if like in this case you cannot see your exit when you enter you would be stuck going round and round and round until you can leave.

    • @DriveSmartDash
      @DriveSmartDash 2 месяца назад

      @lukeorlando4814 They only introduced this rule a few years ago, that you "should" stop at the entrance or exit of a junction (this included roundabouts) to allow pedestrians to cross, but sometimes I think it could be dangerous if traffic is travelling quite fast behind you!! 😉👍
