Laser cutting and CNC routing are becoming wildly popular, so I wanted to make a video giving some basics of vector design specifically for CNC cutting. Hope it helps!

Hey I saw your comment on an AEA podcast with Rick Haney and I am curious to how using his soil test with sap analysis is working for you in the market garden. I too manage a market garden and the diversity of crops is going to make this very complex. Would love to connect about what you have enjoyed and/or disliked using these testing methods and what actions have resulted in your management and fertilizer/amendment program.

On a serious note though, 13:24 you can align objects with handy hotkeys. Select first object, shift+select target object, then press L for left, R for right, B for bottom, T for top, C for horizontal center, E for vertical. And then you can actually input mathematical formulas into coordinates textfield. So if you have 1 inch squares that have to be 2 inch apart, you align them to be on top of eachother and type in +3 after desired coordinates (or minus, or divide/multiply). Also, if you press Num+, it will duplicate object just like Ctrl+D, but at exactly same coordinates, handy for offseting objects later.

If I have a slot set to hairline, when it cuts in the laser it cuts each of the 4 individual entities of the slot out instead of 1 single cut-path to cut the whole slot as one. Any idea how to accomplish this? Thanks in advance.

Good stuff. I’m a longtime CorelDraw user for graphic art (started with ver. 1.1 on floppy disks) but I’ve just bought a CNC machine and I’m hoping much of my knowledge will transfer. BTW, the quickest way to space two identical objects is to set the duplicate spacing distance in the task bar and then Control D. You can also drag a guideline in from the side, select it, and Control D for multiple equally spaced guidelines. Then you can drag/right click to duplicate an object, and snap it to the guideline. Lotta ways to skin that cat!

First, you clearly know how to use Corel, you have a good, clear speaking voice. May I politely suggest to work on improving how you speak. Listen to your recording and note the very frequent use of “um”, “ya”, “uh”, “ah”, “like ya know”. It’s very distracting from your excellent product knowledge. Again, this is offered as a very polite suggestion.

Thank you! I've been using X4 for 12 years with my laser cutter and I still learned some stuff in your video!

Hi Colin, I've been looking around RUclips for an instructional video to help me design something in Coreldraw X7 so I can laser engrave it. I see in your video it addresses laser cutting. What if I want a letter "R" in Ariel bold font and I want to laser engrave the fill along with the outline. I am using a post processor called DrufelCNC and I have tried several things such as turning the font into an object, setting the outline and fill to RGB colors. However, I still can't etch the fill. I read that I have to save the CorelDraw file as a PTL format but still no luck. Do you have another video explaining this. I subscribed but only see the one video describing laser cutting. Thank you, Bob

Thanks, Colin, learning a lot from your presentation. You make it fun to watch and to copy what you are doing. Great stuff. Keep up the good work!
