woodcraft soul

Greetings, I only do hand carved wood, because for me hand carving is analogous to Dark Souls. So I work mostly with hard and very hard woods. Each figurine is a boss that needs a customized approach to defeat it.
On average it takes me 4.5 hours per figurine. These hours bring me satisfaction, memories for years to come, a sense of victory and confidence in my abilities.
And in the process, I enjoy the sound of wood carving and the meditative nature of the process😌.
I became interested in woodcarving thanks to Perry Lancaster. I'm close to his style, so it's not surprising that my work is similar, as it's inspired by his minimalism. However, I am still in search of my own style and I still have a lot to learn about woodcarving and working with hand tools.
I would be happy to inspire anyone to try woodcarving, as it is a wonderfully meditative activity with the amazing sound of woodcarving.

thank you!
so satisfactory

I've recently started to watch your videos, and I think I'm gonna make a few carving knives! Another banger man, can't wait to see the finished product.
Glad you liked it! Good luck with your knives!
I’m going to show this to my hippo guy. This should be the kind of hippo he should be selling.
hippo guy? Sounds mysterious)
@@woodcraftsoul sure does, who’s your hippo guy?
@@Retired_Detective51 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
that's a nice hippo
Glad you liked the hippo
What do you use to finish it and give it that beautiful shine ?
You don't really need to use anything, almost any wood can be polished to an almost mirror-like shine. But you will have to protect it, of course. I used to use a mixture of linseed oil and wax. But recently I switched to a mixture of purified beeswax and mineral oil. Its absorbency is much higher, I can't say about long term observations, but in the neighborhood of 1-2 months statuettes coated with purified wax perform better than regular beeswax with linseed oil. Also, it does not affect the color as it is transparent. Still, this coating (like any other) does not last forever. It should be serviced every couple of years to preserve it for centuries.
This is wonderful🔥
thank you❤️
Man i really admire your skills, i make knives as a hobby so usually work with metal but your videos make me want to be a descent woodworker
Thank you, it's my pleasure. I'm glad to have sparked a desire to try my hand at woodcarving. Give it a try, maybe you'll like carving and get into it!
I love your content, may I ask what wood species you use?
I bought a lot of wood to try out, about 30 or so. As it turns out, some (like the bubinga frog) are better not to work with. They are too hard, so in the future I will take wood below 1800 Janka hardness. And for if you decide to start carving wood, you should start with woods around 1100-1200 Janka hardness (wikipedia has a list of species) And this particular bird, it's Bodo wood. I think it's the most beautiful wood I have, plus it's quite soft, it's a pleasure to work with.
Why do some brain rotted videos get billions of views and likes and those who work hard to make their videos get zero? Where is justice
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It doesn't bother me much, I'd rather have 100 people watch my videos, but they'll like them, maybe they'll be in a better mood or even inspired to do some needlework. Than a million who won't remember what was in the feed in a minute.
I agree this maker's content surpasses most, definitely and injustice.
@@fredchevalier2333 Come on, you're embarrassing me)
Super cool frog well done
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Bubinga is just so bloody heavy , I have maybe 15 or so boards ranging from 1" to 3" thick and ones I cannot lift on my own must be over 90kg but what a finish it leaves
I damn well agree. I bought a lot of blocks of different wood to try out, but I didn't expect this hardness. I recently read up on how hard it is relative to other woods and according to the Janka hardness test it has prohibitive hardness. Bubinga wood is probably in the top ~40 hardest woods. It's beautiful, that's a fact. I'm sure the machining is amazing, but it's not so good for hand carving. BUT I will not give up, my victory was inconclusive and there will definitely be a second round to show who is stronger.
@@woodcraftsoul , I turn carving mallets and mauls from Lignum Vitae , the hardest wood I have encountered but not the hardest to work but still spend mroe time sharpening than working
@@WattWood I don't want to deal with anything harder than bubinga 😅
Your talent and patience is amazing. I hope that cut on your finger wasn't too deep!
Thank you for your concern! Unfortunately or fortunately I have a lot of experience with cuts and wounds, so I have a whole algorithm of what to do to get better quickly) In short, treat with antiseptic, stop the blood, wrap with vishnevsky liniment ointment. Usually it takes 1-2 days for the wound to heal (maybe my recipe will come in handy)
