Snowy River Part 2
This video shows the second part of a sculpture I created using a variety of materials including resin, sculptomold, joint compound, hemp, wire, and trimming from trees. I wanted to create a relief showing a mountain snowy river. I used light within the sculpture to project upward and outward to illuminate the features in the dark.

This week I created a wheel-thrown vase inspired by Earth tones of green and blue using stained porcelain. I use non-traditional techniques when I marble that make it difficult to keep the clay centered but worth it to make the marbling climb vertically.
Marbled Vase from Recycled Trimmings

This week I created a wheel-thrown vase using the trimmings from four other vases. The porcelain I use is expensive so I don’t want any waste. I use non-traditional techniques when I marble that make it difficult to keep the clay centered but worth it to make the marbling climb vertically.

I want to share with you my weekly art post showing my processes in creating anything from wheel thrown vessels to drawing and sculpting. I hope to inspire others to search for their creative outlet whatever that might be. This video shows my process in creating a vase inspired by the Earth’s blue sky. This is part of my investigation where I will create at least 10 works showing elements of Ea...

How do you repurpose the extra plaster?
I break it up, screen it, heat it at about 250 for 3 hours to remove all water and it reactivates the cementation. Sometimes I add a little new plaster to the old just to be sure.
Fantastisch deine Objekte! Da steckt viel Arbeit drin! Und eine sehr schöne angenehme Stimme hast du!
Thank you so much!
Amazing art 🙏
Thank you so much and thanks for watching!
Ty for the awesome video! Any tips on mounting or displaing a finished sculpture?
Your welcome. Thanks for watching! Here is a link to a video I made about mounting and balancing some sculpture. I used a dowel for this one. m.ruclips.net/video/rXbmbnf9JG0/видео.html
Cool !
❤ Beautiful. Such a lovely piece. Would love to know from start to finish how long this took to complete, and what tool were you using to carve.
Thank you! I used a variety of tools but mostly a large ribbon tool for wheel throwing. I finished with a layer of joint compound and sanded with fine grit sandpaper. It took about 5 hours total.
What ages could do this would 7th graders be able to what if we cannot use hot glue
Thanks for asking. All ages can do a variety of iterations. I have seen this done with primary age students with air dry clay and simple forms and Appendages. I thing scaling down the extremities and size makes it more manageable
What is this joint compound
Joint compound is also called mud or gypsum paste. It is what is used to close up the joints between drywall sheeting on walls. It is used as patch repair too for holes in drywall. It is cheap and can be found at most any home repair/building stores.
Can students put wire legs in without a drill bit?
Yes. By just poking a hole with a strong wire. A drill bit by hand works too for a cleaner effect.
Love this video
Thank you!
Beautiful - informative. I hope to create a sculptural piece to place in our garden wonder about water proofing (PNW location) and weather something can be added in the plaster mixing stage to provide a material that can withstand the weather...and tips most welcome!
Hello. Thanks for the watching. I am mostly used to doing interior works but I have done the same process with a sand/ silt based cement and then painted white with an exterior paint. You just need to keep it wet while carving, and then let dry before painting. I imagine even with sealing plaster it wouldn’t be lasting outdoors. You inspired me to create a new work this way and make a video. Thank you!
Do you use the sculptmold as a first layer/ fill because it's lighter than the compound? Suggestion, use a dark color font when laying it over a white surface (and, I think "Wet" is the word you want, not "wetted" :)
Yes. It is faster to form and doesn’t crack like thick drywall mud often does.
Это шедевр! ❤
Thank you so much and thanks for watching!
Amazing!
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
the Italian masters way of mixing plaster . dry lake bed
Yes! I never fully understood dry lake bed so I always used the term The island method.
Some of those models are better than the stuff people produced on my degree course. Amazing.
Thank you! We had a lot of fun with this one.
Good Video.. Do you coat the finished sculpture with anything or just leave it as is ?
I actually didn’t since I liked the matte surface texture and didnt want to take away from that. There are several finishes one can apply but most all of them affect the sheen. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the excellent video. Did you seal it with anything to protect it from absorbing moisture overtime?
@@Walua thank you. I don’t apply any sealant as I don’t want a shiny surface. I like the way the original mat finish lets light move around the form. Thanks for watching!
it´s a good base but not good finish, use plaster for example
Can you elaborate on that? I’m not sure what you mean by finish. Are you eluding to the luster of the surface of the sculpture? Do you mean plaster as another base? Hmm..

Really nice! I'm a big fan of Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore. I've done some sculpture work with flat wire, polymer clay, and marble, but never plaster. (I'm pretty new to sculpture and still finding my medium.) Can you get a smoother or semi-polished final texture with plaster, or is it always going to be somewhat rough at the end? I've seen smooth, white, open freeform or ribbon-like sculptures and never know what the material is.
Yes! You can get a smooth matte or gloss finish with different clear acrylic spray paints. I am inspired by both those artists and love their work. Happy sculpting and thanks for tuning in!
How do you repurpose the plaster chippings?
Basically by smashing them into powder, screening the powder and then cooking the plaster to get all the water out at 250 degrees. It’s a lot of work but saves the plaster from the landfill.
@@artwithandrews7267 and then do you use as before?
Yes. So far I have found that it sets up well
Watching this stoned and fighting bad depression, I really need to do this.
@blewis66112 I’m glad the video helped!
Glorgeous 😍😍🥰❤l
Thank you!
Oh my gosh, that is so beautiful ❤ and it looks so real 😍.. love the video
Thanks so much nightmaremoonstudiio!
@@artwithandrews7267 your soooo welcome ..
What kind of sculptamold did you use for this?
Hey Kylee. I used Amaco brand sculptomold
I love it🤩
Thank you!

Awesome art ❤
Thank you so much and thanks for watching!
I’m sorry I think it’s the glass that creates the glow of the water 😊
👍
How did you get the water to illuminate like that?
Yes! I cut glass for this one and spray painted the inside white.
So cool work would love to see more lighted pieces if you have time ❤thank you
Hey Veronica! Ironically I am finishing a work with resin and light right now. I will upload the video in about a week to two weeks. Thanks for watching and supporting me!

Thanks! And thank you for watching!
Woaw😮
🙂
Beautiful result . I have never seen this process and really interesting to watch . On the parts you sped up I would have added a couple of flames and maybe a little smoke to the vid. :O)
Thanks. I will have to consider the smoke and flames.
Do you high fire it? I see the colors turned a lot darker after the firing which tends to happen to stains at higher cone temps
Great question. I fired at cone 5 but yes the colors did turn darker or burn off color altogether.
Amazing
Thank you so much. I appreciate it!
Wow Spectacular
Thank you!
How durable is it? Will it crack and break easily? Love it!
Thanks. Well… if dropped probably no damage. If hammered lots of damage.
🐐
😀
