Being terminally ill myself this song has special meaning for me. A palliative care nurse told me that people near death become more of themselves, who they really are. She told me that one patient said he thought dying probably feels just like it felt like before you were born. A return to innocence.

Ive spent the last 7 years in Oil and Gas. i took it as him being ok if his carrer, his job is over. because it ruined his peace. In the chase of a dollar, so if it had ended right now he would be cool with it. And in that instance i relate to it so much. I have had children (the reason i went into it) and in fear of being unstable financially. Ive missed 80% of there lives and im not earning time back in anyway. My soul crys to not be in it anymore.

Earl is definitely a rapper you'd need to have a lyrics sheet on the side for. He can convey a lot of meaning and insight in so few lyrics that it's easy to miss. I would love for you to deep dive into is catalog more. I recommend his Songs Grief, Shattered Dreams, Vincent Skully, and Loose Change. I'm surprised I like this song, because before I listened to Sleep Token I was afraid all their music would sound like this. And I still don't like when other bands do this, so... ?

When I first heard this track, I was turned off, except for the middle portion. When I assembled the emotional pieces of the album together, this track made sense, and it quickly became the go to track. Oh, ST, you have transported me into my better self!

I didn't go forward after the two years because taking on people's issues hit me hard because I would always put myself in their position and try to understand what their shoes felt like. Just by the ending lyrics alone.. To me, Johnny is saying that at some point, he has lost who he was and can not figure out or is just plain unable to find the version of himself that he felt was the true Johnny. If he could start all over again, he would find a way to keep that version of himself intact. This song closes full of regret.
