Very informative video. Man, do I learn something new every day. Thank you very much. I liked your answer to "Who's your least favorite sax player on RUclips? - Myself." Good and safe answer. I'll remember that answer if I were asked that. No offense to you. You are great!

Ive read reviews that people dont like Selmer brand Soprano Saxes because of the way the top notes sound. I can kinda see what they mean listening to this

Just got mine in silver yesterday and it is amazing! The high notes above D just sing out with more volume, and bigger sound all around. All through the horn it is just easier to play with an amazing sound. Love it!!

While I haven't owned a Mark Vi, I own a Yanagisawa T880, TWO2, and a Yamaha yts-62 purple logo (yes, I'm blessed)...and there is something special in the tone of my Bueschers and Conn. My vintage horns are lighter and there has got to be something in the older materials that gives them different tone than a modern horn. However, instead of buying one Mark VI for 12K, I bought multiple horns on the cheap as I found bargains. There is something different in the tone of vintage horns. Then again, even Dex sounded different (better, imho) on his 10m than he did on his Mark VI.

I would like to emphasize why Jack is telling us to change the pads when they show signs of ageing. Sometimes a leak-light will not reveal that a worn out pad is going to leak during your performance because the pad can't hold the accumulation of water (condensation). You might play your saxophone fine for 30 minutes at home practicing. When you are at a gig or performance and you are playing for a long time, a worn-out pad will not hold the water after a certain point and then you will not be able to play some notes because of the leaky pad. On tenor, alto and bari, usually the first pad to wear out is the high f palm key pad because the water usually accumulates there a lot while you are playing. On my soprano sax, it is usually the Eb palm key pad that wears out the quickest because I obviously hold the soprano more straight up and down than the other saxes. If you have a leak anywhere on your sax, you will usually notice it most when you try to play the lowest notes on your sax. A leak in your high f key pad will make the lowest notes on your sax not speak... it will affect other notes, but it is very noticeable on your lowest notes. I found this out the hard way on my gigs. I didn't understand at first, why my sax was playing fine at home and then on gigs, suddenly the low notes would not work.

The bell is not just the bell, is a large concept, the tube is diferent. Same with filed and unfiled, is not just that line that dont vibrate, they are diferent reed concepts, all the reed is diferent in diferent parts.
