Bealach Na Ba 100 Climbs #69
The climb of Bealach Na Ba in the Highlands features in Simon Warren's 100 Greatest Cycling Climbs book. It is one of the toughest and wildest in the UK. The scenery is fantastic though. The route I rode started from Loch Carron , went over the climb to Applecross and then looped around by following the West Coast 500 route. Well worth the trip. (Sorry if I have pronounced the climb incorrectly, our host for the week, a Gaelic speaker couldn't stop laughing at my attempt!)

Croston Velo Road Races

A little bit of video showing the Croston Velo Men's and Women's Road Races. Wasn't intending on doing any filming so a bit thrown together, but hopefully shows a great course and the speed of the races. Sorry I missed the end of the woman's race, hadn't got to the finish in time on the last lap, they was so quick!

Sean, Im coming over from the States to do the Ride to the Sun (carlisle to Edinburgh) ride. But before hand i want to come up here and ride this also. Looks like you made it up in around half an hour, how cooked were you? did you go down the other side to Applecross then turn and come back? or did you turn from the summit and go back? I am going to be on my own so leaving a car somewhere that i need to return to. Trying to figure out the range. Any thoughts? Is there a place to eat anything in Applecross?

Rode this yesterday. Well, I say "rode", I stopped several times to spit up blood and teeth. Took me 26 minutes, which puts me 2,294th in the Strava ranking! I did not walk any sections though, so happy with that. Next time I'll take my MTB, which has lower gears.

Now that is a deserted road - only one car and no other bikes! Did it a couple of times back in the 60s and 70s, as an alternative route to Ingleton. Brutal, cause we have to cross Grindleton or Wad Fell first.

One of my favourite routes. Think my best time was just under 7 minutes from the bottom to the cattle grid at the top of the steep bit. 14:59 go straight on and that's a lovely stretch of road too. I do a loop up to Derwentside reservoir and back to Stanhope.
