Airchecks By Maverick
США
Добавлен 18 авг 2023
Airchecks by Maverick is a collection of recordings of air personalities, disc jockeys, radio stations, and more that I have recorded myself or have traded with friends over the years. Some dating back to the 1950's.
-This is a brand new channel and will be adding more airchecks.
"What is an aircheck?" is a question I get asked from non-radio and television friends. The word aircheck is a radio industry term that means a recording/sampling of content that originated over the airwaves, or in some cases directly from a cassette deck in the studio of a radio station. Often 'scoped'...meaning only the beginning and ending of the songs are heard, featuring the on air DJ, jingles, imaging, and commercials.
Airchecks were used by the program director of a radio station to go over with the air personality to help direct and improve their show. Airchecks were also recorded by the DJs themselves to send out with their resume, to other radio stations in hopes of a job.

Here's another great one of Cadillac Jack on 100.3 Pirate Radio (KQLZ), sounding great all over Southern California in 1990.

Real Don Steele and Joe Nasty on TenQ Los Angeles
Просмотров 4617 часов назад
A great find from one of my favorite radio stations of all time with two great LA legends. TenQ (KTNQ) is just a little over a month old at the time of this aircheck from January 30, 1977, and you have The Real Don Steele and Joe Nasty…live…on a Sunday! Randomly giving away albums, TenQ T.shirts, and an electric typewriter. Plus legendary radio news guy, Boyd R. Britton (later Doc on the Roq on...
Kidd Kelly (Mav3rick) on 977 KWIN Stockton
Просмотров 8122 часа назад
This was my last day at 977 KWIN in Stockton...the first time I worked there...in March of 1994. I had agreed with then program director Bob Lewis, that I was done at KWIN. I was going through a lot in my life at the time, including my wife leaving me. Although I was still doing part time work at KNCI, KRAK, and COOL 101 in Sacramento, I was gonna quit radio after nearly 15 years in the biz so ...

JJ Morgan on Power 92 Phoenix
Просмотров 85День назад
This would be JJ Morgan's second trip to Power 92 (KKFR) in Phoenix. Morgan would join KKFR a couple years prior from Tucson, Arizona. He helped KKFR flip to Power 92 while moving to afternoons. I would return to KKFR doing nights as Kidd Kelly. "Double J" would leave to program a CHR in Salt Lake City, only to be let go a few months later. I was then let go only to hear that JJ Morgan had retu...

Mav3rick on MIX 100 Denver

I remember the Summer heat that week in 2006. And I loved it. And I remember that we changes happening at MIX 100 (KIMN) and 92.5 The Wolf, I was at the CBS building in downtown Denver, on the air every day for several weeks. It was crazy, but I loved it. Until the following year where we had the worst snow storm in over a century. I was stuck in the CBS building working everyday and two shifts...
Chuck Field on FM 102 Sacramento

Knee deep into the 1990's, before FM 102 switched to a more hip hop station and simply callingn themselves 102.5 KSFM, here's Chuck Field doing afternoons, with morning guy Chris Collins checking in from a Ford dealership in Roseville. It’s crazy to think legendary Banana Joe doing over nights. But here he is on 1050 CHUM in Toronto from 1977. In less than two years, Banana Joe would be on 93 KHJ in Los Angeles. Dude! I STILL have a TenQ t-shirt!!!
Good times! MoJack and my trusted sidekick #SalManilla!
Sluggo!!!!
R. I. P
Rock-A-Doodle! I haven’t heard anyone mention that movie in thirty years.
Rick Chase was the best on KMEL
Ouff these broadcast clocks are weird. I appreciate her energy! Just needs some polish.
Wow! An aircheck from a thousand years in the future! I never expected Cumulus to last that long!
Haha! Yeah. The cover is correct, but for some reason the wrong year while the aircheck plays. I really need to stop working on these airchecks when I’m in bed half asleep.
@@AirchecksByMaverick I have made so many mistakes like that on my channel over the last 15 years. I have one idiot who follows my channel who pesters me when I make a small mistake, and demands over & over again that I fix it immediately!
Always down to hear my friends, Kelly Dee, and Jeff Berlin. 1:30
I loved the "FM102" years. Those were the best years.
Video too short
I hate a big radio countdown
I like a big radio countdown
I didn't know that Banana Joe worked in Toronto. Thanks for sharing this blast from the past.
I think this aircheck was on the week ending 18 November 1989
I was in and on radio for 50 years. Totally inspired by Charlie Van Dyke… and Robert W. Morgan.
Top 40 on AM in 1989?
The BEST air personality there was ever on the FM dial East and West Coast
Roxette - Listen To Your Heart Technotronic ft Felly - Pump Up The Jam Madonna - Oh Father Covergirls - My Heart Skips A Beat George Michael - I Want Your Sex(1987) Tears For Fears - Sowing The Seeds Of Love Expose - When I Looked At Him Milli Vainilli - Blame It On The Rain Dino - Summergirls Warrant - Heaven(Version Final) The Cure - Lovesong Young MC - Bust A Move Paula Abdul - Knocked Out Bad English - When I See You Smile
Wow, I never know "Joe Cool" Montana had his own show on X-100! How cool is that!
Just tipped you to show my appreciation. 👍
Wow! Thank you soooo much!
The Wonder Rabbit!!!!
I didn’t want to use the name Jack Rabbit. But they compared me to Wonder Rabbit…who was our engineer. So I asked to add the word “the” in front of Jack Rabbit.
Who dat?
😊 Love it! Thank you!
We LOVE you Charlie Tuna!
Thanks for the love Mav3! #ronharrell had a GREAT KIMN 100.3! I grew up listening to KIM on AM back in my grade school days. Still love that Simply Red track that didn't get a lot of national exposure. ❤🤙🏼
Thank you for the aircheck. Sounds great. I really enjoyed working at Mix 100, myself.
Howl
Hope you can post more MARS FM 103.1 videos!
I know that I have more MARS on mini disk. Now I need to find a mini disk player. lol
@@Radiomaverick Sweet! And wow, that might be a difficult device to find.
RIP Valerie Knight
I really miss Big Ron. Huge loss to radio…
I agree.
Alan Freed was the greatest disc jockey ever. Nobody comes close to him
Kmps😢❤
These Rick Chase airchecks are bringing me back to my childhood! At the 2:25 mark, there's a Rick Chase promo rap by Motion Man and produced by King Tech. They did another promo song prior to this, would you happen to have that one as well?
Wow! Kid Kelly, I remember this.

I'm happy that I get to listen to Steve Lundy. I had so much fun working with him in Houston radio in the 1980s. He had huge ratings.
That more music ramp jingle sounds fun!
Yeah. Gregg Cassidy had this station sounding tight. The jocks fit well. I wish I could find airchecks of 92.5 The Wolf when we signed that on. We were a true top 40 country, and in our first book we beat KYGO, and I had the number one night show.
Sounds like August 2006 with "Dani California" being played as a current.
I thought it was 2006, but by Summer 2006 I was back in LA.
Dad you were great I miss you hope your still making production up there fly high 😢❤love you sir ❤
I love the Hawaiin music format on Hi93, KDNN, KCCN, and even the traditional stuff on Hawaiian 105 KINE. I often stream it on my back patio here in Florida. Sometimes the presentation can be strange to the ears of mainlanders, but it works for them.
I agree.
I thought I posted a lot of audio. You post more than I do. That's a lot of work. Thanks for doing it.
😊 It does take time, doesn’t it. At first it was three a day. But then I got too busy (looking for my next programming gig), so I’d post one a day, scheduling them. I had a theme going on for a bit. Monday’s would be currents. Tuesdays would be jingles/sweepers/bloopers. Wednesday-Saturdays I’d post classics. Sundays I’d post an aircheck of me. But it’s getting tough when I’m still looking for a programming gig (and as you know, seems like 100’s of people are getting let go every month). Making very little money right now, and on the brink of being homeless again.
@@AirchecksByMaverick I’ve been there. I spent 6 weeks living in my car between gigs in Atlantic City. Sadly so many jobs are disappearing, and if you are still in programming, you are being forced to wear 4 or 5 hats. I hope you land something soon.
@EllisFeaster Thank you! Yeah, I don’t mind all the hats. I actually love it. I’m such a radio freak and geek. Programming 3 stations at once, on two or more, still doing live shows with phone bits, over seeing 7 stations as OM, etc… LOVE IT!
@@AirchecksByMaverick Same here. Been on air since 1979, and feel lucky I still get to wake Orlando & Daytona every day. I just want to know, when exactly did I go from being the young hot shot at the radio station, to the old man on air?!?!
@@AirchecksByMaverick Yeah. I’m a big radio geek also. I started my channel 15 years ago when my wife wanted me to get rid of my boxes of reels & cassettes in the closets. I had been recording radio since 1973. I decided to start posting here, and I’ve done 4000 posts. I didn’t know I had that much material!
102 Jamz was such a great station in the late 80s and early 90s. I was working across town at WCFB, but was wishing I was on Jamz!
Great Jock!
Great video!!! When it plays the Carl's Jr commercial @ 4:30 and it says 35th snd Peoria in Phoenix, is that one of the Carl's Jr locations? I lived by that area when I lived in Phoenix 3 years ago and if there was a Carl's Jr there, I wonder what's at the location now?
Das mi name
@@ChristopherPeguero-c5j Hi Chris!!!
Christopher is/was a great jock. Is anyone still in touch with him?
IMO the Charlie Van Dyke era (as PD/Morning Man) was the pinnacle in KHJ history. The station sounded better than ever!
Very cool! Not sure that I knew that John Mack Flanagan was ever on 93 KHJ Los Angeles.
I didn't realize Christopher Lance worked in SF. I know he worked in Phoenix, Az. Thanks for sharing this blast from the past.
"This station serves this area." LOLOL!
How specific
I still miss KWOD!!
