Hi everyone, welcome to my little corner of the world! I've been a long-time watcher of Let's Plays, so I'm trying my hand at a few. I hope you'll join me on my journeys through a range of Nintendo games.
I play a mix of titles, often through the Wii U Virtual Console. My repertoire will extend to games I grew up with, and a few which serve as surprises along the way since I want to tackle a few blind projects too. My favourite series are The Legend of Zelda, Pokemon and Fire Emblem, but plenty of other games mix in. I'll do my best to present good titles, but technology and I tend to get along about as well as nitro and glycerine, so more complex efforts are sadly beyond me.
To everyone who stops by, leaves a kind word, or watches one of my videos, I am very grateful.
If you like, leave a tip on Ko-Fi here: ko-fi.com/redtwo006
You can also go down the Cool Runnings route and say "I'll give you a buck to shut up!"

Metroid Prime Remastered #5 - Beyond the Poison
My guess on the "electric jellyfish" thing is that someone in some show or movie had to show being stung by a jellyfish visually, and electricity was the easiest way to do it, especially if the sensation feels like an electric shock. Then it just kind of stuck, like giving rich folks upper class British accents as a shorthand for their wealth, long after the original use was relevant.
Seems to be the case, I was drifting towards that idea too and it's nice to have the confirmation.
Dimentio music for Squashini's secrets. Nice touch.
Felt like a fitting theme, Super Paper Mario is a lot of fun. I remember seeing all those Magic's Biggest Secrets Finally Revealed specials as a kid, I was always curious to see how the tricks worked.
Personally, it's my head-canon that Penny from Scarlet/Violet is on the autism spectrum. I could write an entire essay about why, but suffice to say, it does help me relate to her, and is part of why I find the Starfall Street story compelling, in spite of its predictability.
It seems to make a good deal of sense, and I like the approach. Some people speculate Nemona is too, just manifesting it differently. I also believe the drastic change in appearance Sabrina had from FRLG to HGSS is because she wanted to look more approachable and friendly, just to share my ideas.
It was the Land Before Time movies that got me really into dinosaurs as a kid.
I vaguely remember seeing the first one and that's it, but not much else comes to mind. I think it's important to go through the dinosaur phase, really.
Don't worry too much about going mad. It's the internet. We're all mad here.
Just like the Cheshire Cat in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. "Youre mad, or you wouldn't be here". If anyone thinks this drove me mad, wait until the auto-scrollers...
Speaking of conspiracy theories, I'm now convinced that the only reason we got Banjo-Tooie on NSO was because Nintendo got an early look at this recording, and wanted to make your statement about needing an N64 to play Banjo-Tooie on a Nintendo system retroactively incorrect by getting out that announcement before this video was posted. IRL, while I'm sure it's just a coincidence, the timing is nonetheless hilarious.
It's very fortunate timing. I do need to buy the actual N64 controllers for NSO, because trying to use the Switch controller is a real pain in the backside. The control sticks are so finicky! That said, I wish Nintendo paid some attention to me... but they'd probably tell me to stop :P
Okay, I know I've commented three times in one evening, aha, but I just simply want to say cheers for going through Metroid Prime here.
All good, I appreciate the comments. This one went really well.
I remember cheering so loud when I defeated Ridley in this game for the first time back on the GameCube. However, in the remaster, I somehow find it harder [in the second phase] to time shots at his mouth before he charges - like the shot goes flying past more, I don't know why.
Who knows? I usually don't risk it, but this time I got a bit cocky.
How on Tallon IV does that happen?! I vaguely remember seeing an old YT video where Pirates get stuck near a Phazon crate in Tallon Overworld [in that area with the crashed frigate and big body of water] but I don't even know or remember how that happens.
I had no idea what happened, it was just pure luck really. Some sort of pathfinding error that hasn't happened in any playthrough I've done.
15:38 WOW!! 😮 What are the chances of that!!
Probably not too high. The random capsule event does bring up some huge surprises, but no-one's crazy enough to throw down a Flutter capsule in normal play. I have to make sure to remember that yes I do get lucky; otherwise confirmation bias runs high.
I'm about 99% certain that bombing the tunnel is an intentional reference to bombing the tube to enter Meridia in Super Metroid. Speaking of Super Metroid, I'm not sure why, but it amuses me that the X-Ray Scope/Visor goes from "Useful for secrets, but not really required" in Super to "Beating this game will be miserable without it." in Prime. Quite the jump in usefulness.
I believe you're right about the Super Metroid reference, Zero Mission also throws in a reference to it during the item cleanup as well. As for the X-Ray Visor, it is a bit of a surprise it gets so much use but it's also very neat. It's even more vital in Prime 3, since some puzzles work in such a way that you definitely need it, and you can one-shot certain enemies with it and the Nova Beam.
17:27 LUCKY YOU!!! 🤩
Sometimes I do get lucky, and I need to remember that. I think I like the chaos of this game more; I abused Chance Time too much in the first game.
9:15 “If you were to look up, all time bonehead plays!” 9:42 Instant Karma! (Ztar!)
The game really did punish Peach for such a ridiculous decision. I was too bewildered to say much.
I see we've got a bit of cross-franchise cultural exchange. This lifted Regirock earlier, but Pokemon returned the favor, lifting the Shegoth design and renaming it "Arctibax".
Hm, I don't think I made that connection. I think I just picked up on the Godzilla look being reused for Baxcalibur. Might be worth a look again! I know they did reuse the Sheegoth models in Prime 2 for Grenchlers, and they're apparently really irritating.
To me, Thardus looks like that one character from the movie "Sky High" who turns into a rock monster, if you remember that movie.
Admittedly never seen that, so in my brain it's Regirock's lunatic cousin, the one who never gets invited to family gatherings.
Loathe as I am to quote that particular "Star Wars" film, it's too fitting here: They fly now? They fly now.
That wasn't flying! That was... falling with style!
I didn't know there was a section of Metroid Prime named after a Donkey Kong Country 2 level... [ba dum tss?]
Ah, that's where it came from. I knew it seemed familiar! Bit rusty on DKC2, admittedly, I had better play it again.
Man, this really is the "Pokemon" area, isn't it? Not only do they have Bergmites, but they have Anorith as well with the Ice Burrowers. Makes it REALLY make no sense that the missiles don't work on the ice walls. Steel is super-effective against ice, after all.
I actually named a random shiny Bergmite I found in Scarlet version Crystallite because of this. And perhaps there are similarities with Anorith as far as the Burrowers go. The anomalocaris is fascinating, really. We also have a ball with highh speed, so there's a nod to the Voltorb line!
Gotta say, as someone with a major phobia of bees/wasps/yellowjackets, etc., I feel like having wasps attack you would always stink, regardless of your location.
Oof, I did not consider such things when making this. Please accept my apologies! You are absolutely right... for me, it's magpies, I hate having the beggars dive-bomb me and I'm always worried they'll drill a hole in my head.
love the rain effect
Possibly my favourite game of all time - I'm already liking how you're handling the exploration and everything, so bring it on hey.
I owe people a good one for this. I wasn't in the best headspace last time I tried, so this will hopefully go well. Now I'm nervous, I have to live up to a lot...
Well done on completing BK, and not losing concentration during the jigsaws by commentating like I did [though I did not see the messed-up transformations aha].
Yeah, I can imagine it gets very very fiddly. I knew I'd need to focus quite a lot! The transformations make for a good bit of fun.
I see what you mean about pressing the wrong button today, my friend thinks with the Switch pro controller that it's not the B button but A.
You did a better job finding rhymes than I could! I appreciate it. I'm not a poet and I'm not as good as Chris Seavor (who did a disturbingly good job voicing Gruntilda).
Can you fix the playlist order? The episodes are listed in reverse. Thanks.
All right, I'll see what I can do to coordinate everything.
Thanks for sharing the Gourgeist story! Always fun how Pokemon battles can go so right (or so wrong) in those sorts of ways. I don't go for the online scene personally, but I do have one crazy battle story from a single-player playthrough. I was going through Soul Silver, and was trying to raise an Eevee into an Umbreon (my favorite Eeveelution). Naturally, when I got to Morty's Gym, I wanted to avoid using Eevee at all costs, since it would be able to do basically nothing. I'd been relying on my Golbat using Bite to get me through. Sadly, bad luck and poorly-timed critical hits meant I got left with nothing but Eevee on his Gengar, so I had to send it out. Unable to win any other way, I used a turn to revive Golbat, while Morty missed his Hypnosis. Figuring I had time, I took the next turn to heal Golbat up to full health, only for the Gengar to use MEAN LOOK. Royally miffed now, I spammed Sand Attack out of pure spite, since I figured Eevee was guaranteed to faint now,. Long story short: I spammed so many Sand Attacks that Gengar never got a hit off that stuck, and it struggled itself to death. Somehow, Eevee won that fight.
The fact even the AI couldn't overcome Sand Attack means that Eevee is something special indeed! Quite an achievement for sure :D
Nice pitch. Sadly, an attached garage and central air conditioning are requirements for me.
Judging by the barrels in the wine cellar, it was built well before either of those were considered. It might keep heat in since I imagine it'd be built with English temperatures in mind, so the lack of air conditioning would be telling. The age of the house probably explains why it's haunted, or 'has a lot of personality' :P
Lesson of the day: Australian Christmas Carols are a non-starter, but compose a tune about a venomous spider in the outhouse? Top 10 Hit.
And songs like John Williamson's Old Man Emu. He can't fly but I'm tellin' you, he could run the pants off a kangaroo! Also, we lost a war to emus.
Gotta say, the "Don't mess with chickens" bit did not go where I expected. I was thinking you were going for a "Chickens are descendants of Dinosaurs" direction.
Our Bomberman 64 lore is very deep and often very funny. I'm glad I can subvert expectations now and then. Granted, I would bet chickens can dish out a bit of damage if irritated, but the legendary Chicken-Man is a real force.
I feel like I'm one of like, 5 people who really like this world a lot.
It does have its charm. It's a very different underwater level, a little unsettling in ways, but still superbly done. My favourite level is Rusty Bucket Bay and that's pure evil :P
Careful timing, brute force, same difference. Also, yeah, Rare went HARD on that underwater music. I've never been someone who has a fear of deep water, and even I'm freaked out by that track.
Oh yeah, they really knew how to set the mood, Grant Kirkhope and David Wise are masters of the craft. Also, I admit I was not careful. I also admit I am the kind of person who approaches stealth sections in games with 'Nobody knows I am here because they're all dead'.
Personally, I'd just do what sounds right for Bottles' voice, and not worry about it too much. At this point, I think Proton Jon is the definitive Bottles voice (WWWWWWOOOOOOOWWWWWWW!), and that's an incredibly high bar for anyone to try to clear.
I just roll with what works for me anyway. After all, I did say I wasn't going to try and mimic YuGiOh Abridged voices for Falsebound Kingdom, then proceeded to do just that...
"Night shade does typeless damage equal to the target's level" Wow, and I always thought it was based on the users level...oh wait
Oh, thanks for pointing that out! That was a bit daft of me, wasn't it? I should have done a little more proofing and checking (apropos for Red and Blue!) Have a good day.
Haha no worries. If anything it makes for a fun blooper in the future if you ever do a blooper reel
@@zuloph I could well do, who knows? Thanls very much for the comments, and I'll keep working hard to be properly detailed. Again, wishing you the best! :)
thought this was a jrose thumbnail lol
No expense spent on this project or thumbnail :)
Criminally underrated video.
It took a lot of sanity because I was never fond of maths, but it was plenty of fun to do in the end. I am glad people liked it.
Catching on your videos again, only to hear the background music selection basically saying 'I like trains'. :)
Yeah, I went with a fair bit of train-themed music because I could (and probably a bit of F-Zero). There's effort in there somewhere. That, and I liked Thomas the Tank Engine as a kid, still kinda do.
Happy Star Wars Day - got to watch the rest of this later tonight :) Edit: After watching, I almost cannot understand the coin limits in duel mini-games. I asked my friend on Viddy Plays sessions if she should go below 10 coins. She couldn't. So I thought 10 was the general minimum, but 20? No way, that's not fair!
Not that it helped in the end, the Happening Star and that dickish last turn were the issues. Note to self, Luigi only gets to cheat as the AI and it's never the character the game favours early who wins!
A good Doofenshmirtz reference is always appreciated.
I throw in all sorts of references I picked up here and there, but that one just worked so well. I can't easily reference some of my series of choice, since no-one knows about them :P For example, I'd have to explain a lot if I referenced The Goon Show, a radio comedy series from the 50s.
It may be time to duel, but is it time to d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-duel?
I tried to avoid that particular reference as much as I could, since I kind of broke my rules with YuGiOh: The Falsebound Kingdom and just made everyone sound like The Abridged Series.
What about Dark Samus?
If this is referring to the acknowledgement of the series' female cast, I may not have considered Dark Samus at the time owing to Metroid Prime being of indeterminate gender. I am prepared to admit that I've made a mistake, of course; I think most people seem to treat Dark Samus as an actual doppelganger as opposed to a mutated Metroid, so I'll put my hand up and acknowledge the error there. Thanks for the correction :)
I'm not surprised The Beat Goes On came up in the last five turns of the last main board. I AM surprised it didn't come up as the very last minigame out of pure spite.
The game was planning other ways to wind up making me suffer. The Duel Mode reveals some absolute agony and real jank along the way. Mind you, I can put up with the misery of The Beat Goes On assuming I pay attention. Cheep Cheep Chase, on the other hand... *internal screaming from bad button mashing*
Man plans, and Mario Party laughs.
A truism which will stand throughout time.
$10,000/sq.m.? I'm assuming that's in whatever currency the Mushroom Kingdom uses, but I wonder how that would translate to US.Dollars.
Probably not too well, given the exchange rate between the Mushroom and Beanbean Kingdoms. Of course, Beanbean could just be ripping its neighbour off.
Bowser rigging the game, ending in Peach's victory? Yeah, sounds about right.
Even for all that, the perfect item bag and the star appearing where it did played a huge part. There are so many little moments that led to Peach's victory, and if just one changed, I'd probably win. Being constantly screwed over in Battle Games while Waluigi scabbed coins didn't help.
Speaking as someone who favors the Sandshrew line (and ground types in general; I ended up making a sandstorm focussed team in the Indigo Disk for fun), I am all in favor of that Gengar nerf.
Very true. I think Gengar did kind of need it, though what I wish would happen is a buff to Psychic-types. They've been made to suffer for Game Freak's horrible programming in Red and Blue for decades.
Happy Mario Day [for either today or yesterday], though I wish it didn't have to be so hot in Melbourne, because the heat made me fall asleep before this video's upload.
Feeling you about the heat, it's awful! I'd rather you got some good rest and looked after yourself first and foremost. Funnily enough, I was playing this board in Superstars for a stream with another server last night - and I was Wario.
Nice job on the intro segment! Very intriguing, quite entertaining.
I decided to do something different for a change. This will be quite the story, hopefully.
Seems to me Bowser already "charmed the pants off you". After all, you're wearing a dress, which notably does not have pants.
Counter-query, can he charm the pants off someone if they never had pants in the first place? Alternatively, one could plead semantics and refer to the UK usage of pants, as in underwear :P
Of course there's a surprising amount of light for a "deep, dark sea": You literally brought a start down there! Those things are known to give off a fair bit of light. I haven't done the calculations, but I'd be willing to bet that a star the size of the Millennium Star would be able to light up an area the size of the game board. Actually, now I think on it, probably best not to do those calculations. I don't think the result would end well for basically anyone.
I presume that Mario series Stars are sem-sentient entities which display bioluminescent qualities as opposed to massive balls of hydrogen conducting nuclear fusion, so we're fine there. The Millennium Star is probably of the same species. That's how we're justifying it, through answers which raise more questions!
M8 you made my day with that Dangeresque reference. HTML5 era Homestar Runner just doesn't make me laugh as it used to
Glad to be of service. I'm fond of a lot of older British comedy, so I can understand; when you get that perfect blend of absurdity and intelligence, that's peak humour.
Hello Wario, this is Hugh Jass... [Well done on winning btw]
Look, Wario's gonna be honest with you, this is a prank call that kinda backfired, and I'd like to back out now. (Thanks!)
@redtwo006 Yeah alright, better luck next time...what a nice young man. (Had to say it...)
Glad you did, gotta roll with the classic lines.
