This is basically my "repository" of everything I've learned (and am still learning!) about meditation. I think the best way to learn something is to explain it to someone else...exposes your knowledge gaps quickly! All videos are addressed to my dear children, who are very young at this point. A person will pay large sums for Life Insurance, so their kids are financially comfortable in the case of a disaster. But what about our spiritual treasures? Perhapse these videos come in useful for them someday. God Bless!

Mahasi Sayadaw is the godfather of modern vipassana. Everyone copies him. He's one of the great masters. This is an old recording of a retreat attendant reading the Sayadaw's Day 1 instructions for Vipassana at his Meditation Center in Rangoon. Doctored up with some bird song and flower visuals for you by yours truly. hahahaha

I've really enjoyed learning these states. I know there is a great debate about Jhanas, but I think any arguments about them really miss the point of the Jhanas themselves. I explain in the video. I love you kids! -Daddy

GUIDED MEDITATION The Steam Gauge | Insight | Four Noble Truths | 1st Gear
22:21 four phrases that traverse the brahmaviharas: 1. All beings want to be happy (metta) 2. Happiness is difficult to find (karuna/compassion) 3. Despite that, some beings will find great joy (mudita/sympathetic joy) 4. No being has their faults intentionally (upekkha/equanimity)
The 1st Jhana to me feels like the longest fall. It’s best to put the candle at eye position to prevent the slight hunch in the spine.
Excellent advice for yogi's of all skill levels and ages. Thank you. Thank you for keeping this up in contrast to all the content heavy Paprancha on the net today. Sadhu.

Sorry for question, did you experienced jhana ever? With Metta❤🙏
I have heard stories where people start seeing or listening to spirits.... it is true? what to do if it happens?

Can it cure aphantasia and ADHD?
Thank you!! I can't wait to check out more of your videos. The Mahasi Retreat Talk is great.

Very helpful! Clears up a lot of things I was uncertain about in Stages 5 and 6 of Culadasa's TMI. Thanks
Glad it was helpful, thanks for your practice my friend!
Worked from the first time I did it! Thank you, Sir.
what will be the result for seeing after image candle tip?sir
Hello thank you I just discovered this channel. Great videos!
Andrew much appreciate for sharing this technique, I find it very helpful for my personal practice. I have question where you learn this technique which is very less found anywhere specially in Theravada circle which I have natural inclination, can you provide the source. Further video on this topic will be great help🙏🏻
Hello Avinash, I learned this directly from a teacher, his name is Kenneth Folk. Another name in this area is Daniel Ingram. Thank you for your practice!
@@andrewpeters8690 thank you so much for your reply and much apreciate your work🙏🏻

Do people achieve dyana through the fire / thejo kasina meditation?
Thank you for uploading.
Hi Andrew. Were there any dangers with fire kasina? Some teachers recommend against it on other channels.
Mosey, nothing bad has happened to ME from doing this meditation! I suppose follow fire safety rules and being careful if you have a mental or medical condition by checking with your doctor first... but other than that, I think a lot of the claims about "danger" in ALL religious communities are frankly overblown, likely meant to scare people... but FEAR is the only real dangerous thing!! Don't you agree?
@@andrewpeters8690 a befriended monk told me his friend stopped eating. He then died in the meditation
was like CBD--couldn't feel my body after a couple minutes 👌🏻
Awesome, thanks for your practice!
I was disappointed to witness Analayo's attack on the character of Daniel Ingram in Mindfulness magazine. It has forever tainted my opinion of him.
I wasn't aware of this article, thanks for pointing it out!
Whoa!!!
Hi, firstly thanks for very informative fire kasina meditation practice. I have been trying to get to Access Concentration since I got Leigh Brasington book. I havent had any luck practicing it using anapanasati. I found myself controlling my breath instead of just observing it. A friend once told me that I am not supposed to lean my back again something when doing sitting meditation. What do you think? Can I prop my back while sitting as long as my back is straight? Thanks in advance.
Lean up against a wall, it's perfectly fine. Let the dogmatic dogmaticist who say you shouldn't sit in their dogma hahaha!
@@andrewpeters8690 thanks for your answer. I am learning a lot from your videos. The same friend who advised me not to lean my back also the one who told me to use candle fire to fix my focus. He is just not as elaborative as your instruction video👍. Thanks a lot again🙏
Sounds like your friend is a compassionate teacher... We should always try to do what they recommend! Peace ❤️
I bow to you, Ven. Analayo, and thank you for this meditation. I am hoping that the others will be available, as I only see 2. Very much wanting your support in completing these, as I am reading your book on the Satipatthana Sutta with great interest.
I will post a few more up asap. Thank you for your practice!
@@andrewpeters8690 thank you! I used this with my Vipassana group in Grand Bend, Ontario, Canada just now. We meet on Zoom. Very much appreciated!!
This was really cool thank you
Thanks brother, you are welcome.
Ive been a vipassana meditator for some time now and your first words where you say that we are a mixed mass of emotions and matter hit me, I was reading the art of living of William Hart and he kind of says that we are as a whole just a mass of mental and matter processes that happend very fast and in consecuence give us the illusion of permanence, so when we medtitate we are basicallly doing alchemy and changing our internal recipes. thats so wholesome. As a side note I want to give you a quote that has helped me a lot in my hardests meditation sesions "Whatever you can observe is not you", Im sorry for my english btw thank you for your kind words, take care!
Right there with you brother! Thank you for your practice!!
Thank you. Looking forward for more guided practices by ven. alayo
I will get some more up soon, thank you for your practice!!

Thanks for your videos, Does the fire kasina leads to the "real" nimitta?
Andrew Peters, thanks for your kind and developed answer, I will try. I ask that because according to what I have read, I always thought that Nimitta appears only when the mental and the body are fully pacified deeply. And the Nimitta would appears as the most beautiful, luminous that I would ever seen. But yeah maybe I lure myself .
Is there any danger from the kasina practice?
Thank you very much for your advices Andrew! I tried, but I don't know if the result I had was any positive. It is very hard to stop all the mental chatter, even they were stopped they will soon appear within a few seconds. And usually after a few minutes, I will gradually get sleepy. Why I am asking is because I feel like I started to confuse about things happened in my dream and they seem more and more like true memory, which is horrifying.
Thank you very much! I will try your method and please allow me to ask more questions later.
@@sedollee7496 you might be developing lucid dream capability.
inaccurately titled, since it's not Tara teaching, but he is clearly an admirer of hers, so ...
The Jhanas, as I experience them, are very different from this, although I am not putting your account down in any way. For me to experience a Jhana, I usually need to stay calm and fixed-focus for an extended period - 30 - 60 minutes, say. I couldn't claim to recognise eight distinct states, but there are at least two types. The first type is characterised by being taken over by bliss and a more intimate, 'in-your-face', intensification of awareness. In these states 'I' am still there and able to think about what is happening, but I can't speak, as there is no speaker; just the conscious witness. These are very satisfying experiences in themselves. The second type of Jhana is characterised by a complete loss of the ability to think, as there is no thinker. It is a state of simple consciousness, with no-one there to even think about it. You have to come back out of it before you can do that. Apart from the experience itself, which is a tremendous sense of release from the self, and often a powerful surge of bliss, the lesson I can take home with me is that the self is not real. It's just an illusory entity which thinks it is me, and in control. These are, for me, biological functions which just happen on their own. There is no real 'me' to control anything. Leigh Brasington's ruclips.net/video/lUqcLZTFfIE/видео.html captures the process exactly.
Thanks mate! That was nice..... 👍
Love all your meditations. Do you have all four parts to this Brahmavihra meditation combined in one meditation? Thank you.
Good afternoon Andrew, would you explain in details what the connexion between the figures you mentionned about the hindrances ? Are they sort of giving a grade to them ? I would appreciate your system because I do need to work on them hindrances. Otherwise, thank you very much for the piti, they work. Yves.
Good afternoon Andrew, Questions again (now I understand the word "gauge" which I didn't get earlier) : what is the meaning of the expression you use about the fourth Jhana : "weather pattern" ? And what's the way to Vipassana ; I think you used the word "deconstruct or deconstruction" ? Have a nice day. Yves from France.
How long should i meditate 1 hour Or 2 hours? Which is best for jhana I can sit in lotus not full lotus but in lotus for 1 hour comfortably To do 2 hours of meditation i have to do 2 sesion one in morning one in the evening but what should i do meditate daily for 1 hour or 2 hours?
Good afternon, juste a practical question : English not being my mother tongue there is a word, I could not understand the word "gage" pronounced : ɡeɪdʒ. Would you be kind enough to explain what you meant ?
Thanks Andrew. Have listened to Joseph Goldstein but found your rendition very helpful as well. the background noises were interesting and helpful (sounds appearing and disappearing).
