Fanmade lore: The scent of scorched metal and burnt flesh filled the air, mingling with the coppery smell of blood. The remains of Sonic still lay where Starved had last left them, a cruel mockery of the hero he was. But Starved had no time to gloat now. He staggered back, blood pouring from the deep gash in his chest where Tails had struck him. His body, once swollen with endless consumption, now trembled with weakness. His vision blurred as his body failed him-too much had been taken, and now he was the one losing everything. Tails, panting, his fur matted with sweat and ash, stood over him, holding a jagged piece of Furnace’s broken plating-one of Starved’s own creations turned against him. His single remaining tail flicked, still aching from where the other had been severed. But there was no fear left in his eyes. Only fury. "You... you took everything," Tails whispered, voice hoarse with exhaustion and rage. "Sonic... Amy... Ray... You thought you could just keep taking. Keep eating. But you're done." Starved coughed, a sickening gurgle escaping his throat as blackened blood dripped from his lips. He tried to sneer, but his strength was fading too fast. "Heh... what’s one little fox going to do? You’re just... prey." Tails didn’t answer. He just drove the broken plating into Starved’s gut. The doctor let out a wet gasp, his body twitching violently. For the first time, he wasn’t the predator. He was the hunted. His breath hitched. His muscles spasmed. And then, with a final ragged exhale, the insatiable hunger within him faded into silence. Starved was dead. Tails stood over the body of Starved Eggman, his hands matted with blood-some of it his own, most of it belonging to the monster he had just slain. The underground lair reeked of charred flesh, oil, and decay, the twisted remnants of a madman's obsession with consumption. Starved had fought like a wild animal, clawing and biting in a last desperate attempt to feed, but in the end, he was mortal. A sharp wrench, a blade forged from scavenged parts, and pure determination had been enough to finally put an end to his reign of terror. But it wasn’t over. A Loud slow, rhythmic clank was heard through the chamber. Heavy, mechanical footsteps approached from the darkness, each step accompanied by the faint hiss of steam. Tails turned, his breath still ragged from the battle, his twin tail twitching in exhaustion. From the shadows emerged Furnace. The hulking machine stepped into the light, revealing its metal frame. It bore the unmistakable resemblance to Metal Sonic, yet it was different-taller, and a furnace, with dark grey metal skin, a furnace door on his chest, and red burning eyes. He also has long claws and emits a lot of smoke as a result of fuel. A deep, mechanical voice reverberated through the chamber. "You have eliminated my creator. The directive has changed. Preservation of the legacy... required." Tails’ ears twitched at the words. Furnace stepped forward, looking down at Starved’s lifeless corpse, seemingly analyzing it. After a few seconds, it lifted its gaze back at Tails. "Dr. Ivo Robotnik was weak. His hunger clouded his judgment. He believed in satisfaction over efficiency. I do not." Furnace straightened, its movements precise. "And now, you must be eliminated. Not for vengeance, but for completion. You are the last variable." Tails gritted his teeth, gripping his wrench tighter. His body screamed at him to rest, but his mind knew better-Furnace wasn’t like the other robots. He wasn’t just a machine. He had been programmed to learn, to adapt, to hunt. The lair trembled as Furnace lunged forward with inhuman speed. Tails barely dodged, rolling to the side as the metal monstrosity smashed into the ground where he stood. The impact sent cracks through the concrete floor. Tails scrambled up, his mind racing. He couldn’t fight Furnace head-on. Starved had been flesh and blood, but this... this was something beyond that. Furnace twisted his head unnaturally, locking onto Tails. "You are injured. Resistance is illogical." Tails didn't respond-he sprinted instead, weaving through the wreckage of Starved's lair. His goal wasn’t to fight, not yet. He needed to find a weakness. Furnace gave chase, moving unnervingly smooth for something so large. The sound of whirring gears and shifting plates filled the room as the killer machine adjusted its speed to match Tails’ movements. Tails' eyes darted around-there. A set of old fuel tanks lined the far wall. If he could lure Furnace into attacking them... He skidded to a halt, turning to face his enemy. Furnace didn’t hesitate, charging forward like a freight train. At the last second, Tails dived aside. "NOW!" He hurled his wrench with all his might. The makeshift weapon struck the tanks with a loud clang-followed by a spark. A moment of silence, then- BOOM. A wall of fire engulfed Furnace, the explosion rattling the entire facility. Tails shielded his face from the heat, coughing as smoke filled the air. For a moment, he thought it was over. Then, from the flames, a red glow. Furnace stepped forward, his body scorched but still operational. The blast had destroyed and melted parts of his chassis, exposing glowing, molten metal underneath. But he was still standing. Still coming. “Predictable” Said Furnace. Tails’ heart pounded. Furnace was overheating. His name wasn’t just for show-his entire structure was designed to withstand extreme temperatures. But that meant one thing: he needed to vent. Tails watched as steam hissed from Furnace’s joints. His cooling systems were working overtime. That was the key. Furnace raised an arm, the fingers splitting open to reveal sharp, spinning blades. "Final termination-initiated." Tails darted forward, faster than before. He dodged a wild swing, then another. Furnace’s movements were precise, but now slower. The heat was affecting his processing. That was his chance. Tails leapt onto Furnace’s back, gripping exposed wires and pulling with all his strength. Sparks erupted as Furnace let out a distorted, mechanical screech. "SYSTEM-DAMAGED. FUNCTION-COMPROMISED." Tails wasn’t done. He reached into his toolkit, pulling out an electrified screwdriver, and jammed it straight into the machine’s exposed circuitry. A violent jolt of electricity surged through Furnace’s body. The red glow in his eyes flickered-then faded. His body convulsed before going completely still. Then, with a final hiss of steam, Furnace collapsed. Tails tumbled off, breathing heavily as the robotic menace lay motionless. It was over. Starved was dead. Furnace was no more. But as he sat there in the ruins of the nightmare, one thought haunted him- Had he won? Or had he just survived?
