Interview with NRK Lydverket from 2011.
That warms my heart and my soul
After listening to this interview, I now fully understand the title of The Clash's final album, "Cut The Crap".
Lovely Joe. Speaking the truth.
I grew up looking up to Joe, now I'm 6 years older than he was when he pushed off of this mortal coil. Most of my heroes are gone 😢
The new band members look so uncomfortable. Topper and Mick were the musicians in the band, Joe was the lyricist, it was never going to work without them.
Mick and Topper were in charge of the musicality of The Clash. Strummer and Simonon in charge of the attitude. In Cut the Crap we had no musicality.
They were so good looking like hell why they didn't continue with this line up???
Joe your flame burns eternally! Rastafari! Roots rock rebel! Jah!
Love Joe, But he was so wrong here...
This lineup should have done more...
And 18 years later Joe died.
I think this is a very relevant point today, not by the point itself, but by its existence since music became an industry. Saying that the music of today is simplistic, bad or too commercial is ignoring that music has always been simplistic, bad and too commercial. Even at that time Joe Strummer was pointing out overproduction as an issue with artists, not caring much about live performances. It has always been this way, but it seems that music from yesterday was better due to pure survival bias. Simply put, bad music has always been made. It's just been washed away with time, along with being less noticeable because music wasn't as accessible as it is today.
"Know Your Rights" changed my life! Sadly in '84 i was 6 y/o... found The Clash through my punk/alt stage even as early as 13. RIP Joe Strummer
I asked Joe for a support to The Clash, he said "Do I look like a promoter?" What's the name of your band? I said 4 Minute Warning.. He replied "4 in the mornin' eh? True story from one of the many times we met. love this blokes honesty and hate of the pop world.RIP Joe
Joe Strummer working class hero, privately educated, son of a diplomat...so full of crap
What’s up with all these negative people in the comments ?
Naff he should have never broken up the Clash by sacking mick and topps
Joe Strummer - surname says it all
His given name: John Mellor
All modern music is written by ghost writers
Si no le interesaba la música no interesaba ya su banda, perdió totalmente el rumbo
Strummer was a fake
Shite fakers
Communism for thee not for me.
Should have disbanded in 82"
Upper middle class larp er.
He is full of hate
He really wasn't.
Knowing what album they were about to make/were making(Cut the Crap) this interview makes Joe and Paul look stupid af. 😢 And they're not stupid af. They're brilliant. And is it just me or does Joe seem a bit on edge without Mick.
The Music Revolution was blueprinted around this time. 7yrs later would be D-Day. 1991 Nirvana. Then Music War lasted till 96
I don't even know what he's talking about half the time
That's not The Clash, thats a derailed train wreck of what used to be a band called The Clash which by this point and had become a parody , so embarrassing
Mick was missed
Mick had the last laugh after they sacked him.
The Clash was a band that was in the right place at the right time. Did Joe Strummer forget that if you want to get somewhere you need a vehicle? RIP.
"The Clash".
“You’ve got to do a lot of work to even do any of your own thinking.” That revelation epitomizes Joe for me. This thought-for the 16-year-old kid I was in ‘78-radically changed my life. White Riot. Gates of the West. Armageddon Time. Cheers to you, Joe.
JS totally changed my life too. My hero.
@@paulamiller6109 Cheers to that, mate. For me the same.
This could be a scene from Spinal Tap. They sound like idiots lol
Zzz
Fantastisk🤩🎸😊👍
once mick jones got canned it was over, he was the main contributor to the song writing and composition
i like lots of bands, i do think just like anything, when you start to take it too seriously, just like anything, you missed the point for most people. most people listen to what they like, and don't care if it is contrived, or the studio made it sound good, or the band is a sell out. i don't think most adults that are normally adjusted should really care that deeply about that stuff. just listen to what you like, and go raise your kids. people that care too much about the intentions of the band, or the industry of the band or whatever the thing is they are into, seem to not have time to take care of themselves and the ones they claim to love. just listen to what you like, and build your own life.
I dearly love Joe Strummer and The Clash, but almost every interview around Cut The Crap time he comes out with so many David Brent from The Office type statements. The other guys in the band, particularly Nick Sheppard, actually look a bit embarrassed. I get the impression even Joe didn't believe a lot of what he was saying around this time.
Probably the most overrated band ever . This is so spinal tap 😂
what a bunch of self-impressed twats 😆
R.i.p Joe but you say I advise Americans don't buy rolling stones records as it contributes to the big huge concerts. What about when you reformed the original band minus topper, you ran on stage to a massive stage looking like Michael hutchence from inxs, mick Jones and Paul simonon all dolled up, you all loved the limelight really. The only one truly down to earth was TOPPER.
"We're going back to basics" than proceed to make an album that sounds like Cindi Lauper on steroids.
Well said, Joe ... I hated good to see, some Glamed out, drunk, out of his mind,Singer... singing about some groupies, he sagged 😂
what he say still stands today
"Paul Simenon"
❤ 💫 🌸
Joe Strummer had heart. McSorley's lacking at the moment.
