Interesting, Nazareth not being further discussed, zero evidence pre 300CE, both early marble archeological lists have been debunked as forgeries, no evidence of Nazareth location, do u still agree that this “tourist trap” is significant? Or later Christian creation?

At 1:01:50 - may be an unclear question from me, but when you say in your view Luke knew about John's gospel and think it's one of the 'many others', how do you view the Gospel John then? Like it initially comes across that you just ignore it thinking it is not part of God's Word, but I'm just wondering if that is accurate or not and if you could expound on that? It might be better to ask how do you personally view the Gospel of John in context of God's Word as a whole with it in mind that John is one of the 'many other gospel attempts' that were written? Or is it that you think Luke knew about John's attempt but felt there was a need to fill more information that he missed or other details/narrative that needed to be 'in addition' to John? Granted, I realize Luke probably didn't think of the letters they were writing were going to be in a collection we call 'God's Word', but do you think Luke considered John's text as divinely inspired through the Holy Spirit? I suppose I have lots of questions on that on how you view those things, haha. Feel free to answer either of those in whatever way, if you want. Thanks!

Hi Jared, I do not usually even see comments posted on videos from several years ago, and for the most part I do not respond to the comments even if I see them. This was a recording of a class I was teaching at St Francis College in Brisbane some 9 years ago (March 2014). If it is helpful to you or of interest, then that is great. However, I am not providing personal tutoring in basic biblical scholarship to people who were not in that class. Let me just say that you seem to be assuming that people such as Luke or Paul had a view about Scripture-including even the emerging early Christian writings which had not yet been gathered into a collection that (much later) be recognised as a "New Testament"-that saw them as "divinely inspired through the Holy Spirit" (using your own words) and thus somehow part of a body of sacred literature that you describe as "God's Word as a whole." These are modern concepts, and mostly reflect a particular Evangelical view of Christianity and its sacred texts. I share neither those concepts nor your understanding of Christianity. I approach the formation of the earliest Christian documents, whether included in the later NT collection or not, as a historical question similar to questions about the formation of other ancient literature that has no particular religious significance to Christians of various outlooks. The results of such historical investigations may have theological implications for you, but we do not mortgage our historical work to the consequential theological issues. To be very clear, the anonymous 2C author we call "Luke" chose which ideas to include in the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles, and he also chose which words would be used to express those ideas. This was not a task undertaken or overseen by the Holy Spirit or any other otherworldly entity. Books are created by humans, not by gods. The same applies to creeds and theological statements. Grace and peace.

For those interested in a PDF version of this or other seminars/lectures, I recommend checking the more condensed and popular versions of the material from when it was presented as part of the Dean's Forum series at Grafton Cathedral. I shall add links to the PDFs.

Hi, Kyle. Yes. my big head sometimes obscures the lower right portion of the screen! I think it is hard to attach a PDF to a YoiubTube video, but sometimes I have added a link to the PDF on the VIDEO page of my personal website: www.gregoryjenks.com

Dr Jenks, I thank you so much for this lecture. I am a Christian gay man in the Uniting Church. As elsewhere our presence in the “fellowship” is uncomfortable for some. Glad to see you are well again and fighting the good faith! Graham Spottiswood

Hello, Rudyard. I have no idea how to do this (or why one would wish to do this), other than by turning off the audio for the slides when you do not wish to hear it. Cheers. GJ
