Arranged and played by Fairchild and Rainger.

Enjoying a nice 1920s style breakfast. Yes, I do prefer toast without anything on it haha! The toaster is a Toastmaster model A-1 from 1926. This toaster is the very first automatic pop-up toaster sold for residential use. The coffee maker is a Bowman & Manning electric percolator from 1923. I have several other antique electric appliances other than these, such as my 1932 Hamilton Beach food m...

    I love your Brunswick! I just bought a 1930 RCA REA68 with a record changer. What kind of needles do you use in the Brunswick? Asking someone who doesn't use a phono with a changer the answer is always new single play needles which seems counter intuitive for playing multiple records. Thanks!

    • @EnerG15
      @EnerG15 2 года назад

      The REA68 is a gorgeous and rare machine! I love the push button electric volume control, way ahead of its time. The only needles that should be used with early changers are cactus/fiber needles or Victor Tungstone needles. Tungstones are my favorite but they have not been made since the 30s and get more and more expensive as collectors buy them up. Im currently working on a way to manufacture new Tungstones but I have a long way to go.

    • @victrola1906

      @@EnerG15 Thanks for the reply! Yes, I'm thrilled to be able to find such a rare machine and at a good price. I've always been fascinated by the early record changers and the amazing engineering that created them. The RAE68 is the second electric phonograph in my collection, which includes the last Edison ever made, the late 1929 C-4. I've been picking up Tungstone needle packs on eBay but they are few and far between. I hope you are able to figure out how to reproduce those. I'm sure you would have a ready market!

  • @kfl611
    @kfl611 2 года назад

    You can purchase new 78 rpm needles that are sapphire tipped and last 400 plays per needle, instead of the metal needles that are recommended to be replaced after each play.

    I also have a model 42 in my home, it is on my workbench at this moment. I have had it for over 20 years and did have it working at one time, however, my "fixes" were amatuerish and I need to do a real restoration this time. Two of the motor mounts are broken off but I have them and the only way to get the motor out is to dismantle the changing mechanism. I looked upon it as a daunting task but I see in your video you were able to do that. I was not sure if I might disrupt some kind of timing alignment. I have several questions for you, do you have an email address?

    "Indestructible" cylinder? This one's not made of wax? I thought all the cylinders were wax.

    • @EnerG15
      @EnerG15 5 лет назад

      Only the early brown wax and black Gold Moulded cylinders were made of wax, which is actually an aluminum-soap composition. Later ones were made of celluloid either on a plaster core, like Blue Amberols, or on a cardboard core, which is what was branded as "Indestructible" records.

    I have it's little brother, the model 12A. All 1931 Brunswick radios were beautiful and great performers, although mine has the odd pot metal "turret-top" chassis that can be a nightmare to restore if you have to dig into it. Luckily mine works nicely with just some minor restoration work. Anyway, your set is both rare and gorgeous, and sounds incredible too.
