The problem comes from the gas oil pump! It is located next to the battery and easily accessible! The pump becomes unprimed and that's the problem, you have to replace it, put in a new one. I had the same problem, now my truck starts like clockwork.
When it's cold and freezes i floor the gaspedal all the way and let the engine turn over a few seconds without Glowing first. The injectors spray wet diesel in the pre combustion chambers and onto the glowplugs. The second time i let it glow normal and the injectected fuel is turned by the hot glowplugs into a very combustable gas and then when i hit the starter it starts immediately. Good trick i learned from my dad and works every time
