No cheat codes used in this old run, no, nor are there cheats used in the current WR, that is over a minute faster than this.

Speedruns have been using glitches ever since speedrunning became a thing. They are part of the game and it's thus only logical that they should be allowed in order to beat a game as quickly as you can, if they help you achieve that goal. It's still a speedrun for all intense and purposes. So while you can have that opinion, it's factually incorrect. However, due to some glitches being quite major, skipping a lot of the game, there are always more categories were certain, or sometimes all, glitches are disallowed. They are all still speedruns, just differetn categories of running a single game.

He's setting up an Invisible Barrel to ride on Expresso. The barrel is still being carried when he mounts Expresso should after, though when the barrel is dropped when hitting the Midway Barrel, Donkey is still holding something. What he's holding is the next sprite that loads in memory, which can be an enemy, a barrel or even an entrance to a bonus room. He sets up to hold the bonus room and when you throw the barrel, depending on how and where this is done, you can modify the value of where the bonus will take you. The other part needed for the glitch is the Split Up glitch, which is what he did in the first two levels: Throw a DK barrel with only one Kong, Start+Select of the level, re-enter a stage and die above a hole. The next time you'll get a DK barrel, you can control both Kongs at the same time. When this is done in the bonus room, you can exit the bonus with both Kongs at the same time and you'll again change where the bonus will take you. As Donkey is technically did, from 1:10, he disappears after the warp. Quick summary of it, hope it makes some sense =).

You can then destroy the barrel by jumping in a midway barrel. The barrel is destroyed, but the game is still expecting that you hold something. What's happening here is that you are now holding the next sprite that is spawned in memory, which can be an enemy, another barrel, a bonus etc. 2:03 He releases Y to throw the barrel, this will "activate" the sprite he was holding, in this case the bonus entrance. Because sprites aren't supposed to be controlled this way, strange things happen. In this case, it will change the exit value of where the bonus will take you after you finish it. 2:10 Breaking the DK barrel will get Diddy back and activate a glitch called "Split up". While the effect is too short to notice here, you are basically able to control both characters at the same time, instead of one following the other. As Donkey is technically dead, Diddy will become the active character and the one that the camera will focus on. The fake character, Donkey, is unable to die and interact with certain objects. Right at the moment when Diddy gets out from the barrel, both characters are however considered active for one frame. You'll have to exit the bonus with the both characters on this frame and the exit value will be changed once again. Runners try to line up on an exact pixel in order for the glitch to work. If you are two early or late, the game will either crash or warp you to a different location. As Donkey is still dead, he disappears and Diddy will be riding Expresso instead. There is nothing fake about this old run (Which is far from the actual record). But please tell why you think it's fake and I'll explain what's going on.

That Isn't Garbage That's Oil Drum

There are no cheat codes of any kind being used. Do you refer to situations like at 2:29 where part of the Expresso sprite touches the enemy? The hitboxes for both the Kongs, the animals and the enemies are all smaller than their sprites. Nothing here has been modified in any way and everything you see works identical to if you would play the game yourself.

Edit: I'm stupid and just blindly used the wrong RTA leaderboard. RTA WR is 7:27. The TAS is 7:24 with TAS timing, which converts to about 7:18 when timed the same method as this run. There are also a couple of improvements to the TAS. This hasn't been the WR for this category since shortly after the video was published. The actual real time WR is 8:01.
