I like your riding videos, especially your trail documentation at Metcalf. They give me an idea of what I'm in for after not riding for 35 years. Thanks!
What app do you use to navigate?
@@blakeredmon2473 I use Gaia GPS most of the time, but at Carnegie and Hollister (and a few others) I use Avenza with the park’s published PDF. I wasn’t able to find geo referenced versions that are still available, so I added geo reference myself. I have the files shared at www.southbayriders.com/forums/threads/169866/#post-2297456
You need two-wheel drive 😊
@@teccec luckily, one-wheel drive got me through…
Love the sun shade for the phone. I was just thinking about that yesterday.
@@charlesr9110 it makes ALL the difference on hot days in the sun.
Why on earth would you not be running a proper foam oiled air filter when offroad?
@@eriknash8783 the K&N oiled filter seems like a good option? That was what was on the bike when I got it and seems to work ok…
Looks really nice! Thanks for sharing.
Not being rude but It's Called Pine Valley Mountain It is a great Mountain to live near or right next to since it is an extinct volcano
@@scottpace5798 🤷♂️ The two route descriptions I found online that I followed for the ride both called it “Pine Mountain loop” and “Pine Mountain OHV loop”
@@austinRCsailing I've grown up on and around this Mountain for over 50 years wasn't till the housing boom in St. George around 2005 when out of state people started calling it Pine Mountain. All Maps from Dixie National Forest Pine Valley Ranger District call it Pine Valley Mountain. If you put in for any big game hunt it's called Pine Valley just like the Town of Pine Valley. Like I said not being rude about it just a little info from a local
Was it much cooler up there??
@@michaelcerami3740 it was 15° to 20° cooler up at the higher elevations compared to down in St. George. Enough so that i find it reasonable to do that ride during the day/afternoon compared to most of the other rides in the are that I would only do first thing in the morning right now.
Rode it today! I'd say big manzanita is harder now despite being only "single" diamond, about as steep but more whooped out..
@@OlegAvdeev agreed
Looks fun 🤠
David: is this a down-and-back route? What video equipment do you use to get the telescoping in-and-out? How do you control wind noise?
@@brucekester7638 it is mostly an out and back trail the way I did it. There are route options to make it more of a loop if that is desired. The track for the ride is available at www.gaiagps.com/public/6evaZTT72jxWFZO7ivSVwEN8 I use a GoPro 11 in the silicone protection case on chin mount for all the riding footage and an iPhone 13 Pro for the stills and video while stopped. Don’t do anything for wind noise, just go for it.
What do you use for your maps? Btw, you made it looks pretty easy.
@@marvinjames6398 I am using Avenza with the US Forest Service trail map for the area. Most of the time I use Gaia GPS (if I don’t have a geoPDF that works in Avenza).
Great job, man. Thanks for posting.
Nice sunset! Cool being able to ride with your Dad too.
That spot has bitten many a rider.
Rode to the top and over the other side that day. Must have been ahead of you to beat the heat.
I guess the KTM 500 isn't a water dog.
Is it me or is that wjat KTM puts on as a air filter 🤔
looks to me like aftermarket K&N
@@keithschuenke8187 it’s an aftermarket K&N filter that was on the Ike when I bought it.
After market KN filter. imho no bueno for dirt riding, dusty trails...
This happened to me once. I literally just waiting 30 minutes for water to settle. After 30 minutes, the buke started right up.
Bike OK mate? Hope you had a safe ride. Looks like fun!
@@kennethcooley3445 ya, it’s all good. Was able to finish the ride without issue and has been out for several rides since.
You can’t make a Carnegie video, just riding fire roads, you either gotta be climbing, or dropping, 40 years at Carnegie myself, make it scary and exciting
Great adventure. Top of my bucket list. Thanks for posting
Awesome video, thanks for sharing. Now amply clear to me that I cannot do this alt section on my T7, I need a small 250.
Shit it wasn't amply clear to me that I cant do it on my klr650. Now I'm worried XD
Really cool to watch your video. A friend and I did that ride a couple of weeks ago. It was neat that you recorded virtually the whole ride. Enjoyed feeling like a passenger and being able to see all of the beautiful terrain, without bouncing off of a rock. 😂 Well done by you. Too bad about your motor ingesting that water. I’m sure you’ll get filter/airbox sorted out. I hit that water crossing pretty hard, but no problems. Felt good on a hot day. Take care.
@@aussiedorsmith9293 yesterday I spent the afternoon with some elderly family members that would not be safe to take on the ride (even in a SxS) watching on the big tv. They had the same comment, it felt like they were in the ride. I hit the water crossing on the way up (camera wasn’t on to capture) without issue. I guess I got unlucky on the way back.
How deep was the water that clogged your bike?
@@blastradiu5 enough that I drained water out of my boot. Probably like 1.5’-2’
Thanks for the great video and at 60fps! I appreciate seeing what the road/trail is really like to gauge how "expert" of a route really is.
OMG BRO PLEASE DITCH THAT FILTER! Get a real offroad filter. Holy cow!
?? such as?

Thanks for this vid! Now mine works
Are the trails here 1 way?
Yes, most all the trails are one way
What did you use for the map view in the video?
@@fdoepke Google Earth for desktop. It has a mode to fly along a recorded route.
@@austinRCsailing Thank you. Video is great to see all the trails - especially the ones I haven’t dared to try yet
How do you think it’s gonna be this weekend? Should be coming out there
Should be real good
It's gonna be good but muddy in some areas, especially on the east side of the park. Every RMA trail will be open except Roadrunner and Thrasher due to deep rutting. So this weekend will be good to ride. Hope this helps :)
Cool video, what camera and settings are you using?
I am using a GoPro 11 on a chin mount and the GoPro wireless remote on the handle bar. I run 1080p60, high quality, second to highest stability mode, and something on the longer end of focal length like 24 or 27mm or so
@@austinRCsailing nice, the video quality is very good!👍
Nicee I’m goin out today for some ridin
If i wired it wrong the first time is there potential ive broken it?
Possibly, but it probably is ok if you just reconnect it correctly
Check your fuses
I’m getting a bike next month and looking for a place to ride since i live in Pleasant Hill. This perfect 🔥 it’s worth the drive every week. Look like so much fun
exactly what I was looking for, thank you Sir.
Good job sir. Welds are as good as mine would be; yet they work…so 👍🏼. Just loved how your puppy just hangs around watching and interested in what you’re doing. 😁🇨🇦
Nice lines Dane! Looks like a fun level
I want to get a spare wheel and set it up with a paddle tire for that stuff.
A paddle tire would be a lot of fun to try in the dune
I had the same problem with my trailer, I had to change the lights several times. So I built and welded a protective cage around the lights with rebar scraps. With this cage, the lights are now protected in all directions, front, back, side, top or bottom. The only one who complains about it is my trailer parts supplier.
