Cool old stuff
More Mike Oldfield on Blue Peter (1979 & 1980)
Blue Peter mentioned Mike Oldfield twice more after the film of him re-recording their theme.
On the 1st March 1979 they announced his rearrangement of their closing music, and on 14th January 1980 they explained about the new ending to the single (which at that point was at number 19 in the charts) and then Legs & Co danced a routine for it.
Unfortunately, the re-recorded ending didn't give the single any further boost. The following week it had dropped to 24, then 32, and the week after that it was out of the top 40.
Recorded off-air to U-matic, later dubbed to S-VHS and finally digital.

Mike Oldfield: All Right Now, 1980

In 1980, Mike Oldfield recorded a cover of Free's All Right Now especially for the ITV pop music show "Alright Now". Here's the complete feature from the show; firstly a strange sequence of Mike wandering around the grounds of his house trying to find and shoot a toy bird, then an interview with Mike and Sally Cooper (holding baby Molly), and finally the full-length version of All Right Now.
I remember watching this at the time. My introduction to multitrack recording. I thought it was fascinating. I'd have been 9.
The metronome was done on the ARP 2600 synthesiser. The flute synth looks like a Roland SH-2000. The 2600 was also used by The Who, and many other artists. It's an incredible synth, but it's most famous use, is R2-D2.
I love what every knob and fader does
"People who never laugh are not serious people." [Frederic Chopin]
Great. MO genius obviously.
WOW 😀
I'm more the pan's people
love this.
Genius at work.
How many people did the Beeb send to film this?.
Remember watching this at the time. Happy days!
I hope they redid Simon Groom’s awful snare roll intro…I think they did.
Love that solo from Exposed.
The beautiful innocence of the 1970s and 1980s.... i really miss it
Really didn't know that Mike was the first TIKTOKer on the planet! 😋👍🏻
Mike knows a twang or two about music does he not
Lovely version, I actually like this one a bit better than the one he released, where the rhythm guitar was replaced by a piano, among other things.
Intriguing and interesting. Some of Mike's capabilities seem to echo what I do in my recordings: I am not a fast player either, but I miss the capability to play a keyboard instrument. That is why I am very lucky that in this period of time, I can use guitar synth effect pedals to be able to record electronic sounds.
Pretty sure the music to 3:20 is from the 1980 Knebworth live performance.
When I think that today all these instrument using FL studio, Ableton, cubase etc 😊😊. But Mike Oldfield is unique.
❤️
Jingle jangle jewellery!
PHANTASTIQUE !!!!! 🤩Though I'm such a fan & Mike's music ruled most of my life (and I've seen lots of footage ...): THIS is quite new to me !!! 😲 As I know from his autobiography he didn't like hunting too much - so this is a nice ironical piece (maybe after Richard B. persuaded him to join a stupid battue one day ... haha) ALL RIGHT NOW - also surprise to me - thx for uploading this / hello & cheers from Bremen/Germany 🤗
Just brilliant.........
3:23 Irish people cringing 😬
Bel Ragazzo Mike
that is amazing
This was the good wholesome entertainment that we grew up on - all family-oriented and educational - none of your drag queen storytime back then!
I grew up watching this and loving it too. Your sad homophobic comment belongs back in the past.
I did not know there was a 'video' for this. I thought it was just a beautiful, 'simple', constructed peace....But then, the only thing that exceeds my ignorance is my incompetence...
Hey don't be so hard on yourself.
Only just watched this. I'm 60 and still remember like it was just yesterday. Happy times.
Who are the presenters at the beginning from left to right?
Christopher Wenner, Lesley Judd and Simon Groom.

The charmingly awkward interview is gold. Mike’s weird turkey shoot (and All Right Now)…not so much.
I can still remember this like it was yesterday. Incredible.
Everyone was so well-spoken in those days!
That old ending 2:50 will be rare and worth loads!
Even funnier with Simon being gay too.
This "making of" is unbelievable. Where did you find this? It shows so much! Thank you a million!
I got it on 7” !
He was quite dishy wasnt he eh
Fabulous stuff.
やっぱりマイクはカッコいい 結構お茶目ですね
Sally Cooper looks like Anita. Both were angelic ladies.
HUGE respect to Mike.
9:39 And cue new late 70's Blue Peter theme song.
From birds on legs lolol
They're n0t the fingernails 0f a guitarist they are the fingernails 0f a strange man. N0 need f0r the fl0-J0 l00k t0 play the guitar.
Is y0ur keyb0ard n0t w0rking pr0perly t00? It@s s00 ann0ying, isn't it/
This is, with zero irony, the best Mike Oldfield interview out there.
"Acoustic bass. It's like an electric bass, except it's... acoustic." - Mike Oldfield
Insightful.
I remember this episode and found it quite interesting show. But I was utterly horrified that they were actually to use it to replace the original theme tune. I felt tricked.
Absolutely lovely
