Hi, I'm Sebbaa. Long-time nerd, dungeon master and writer of fantastic stories. On this channel I talk about tabletop RPGs such as D&D, Mörk Borg or Call of Cthulhu. I do system and adventure reviews, advice for game masters and sometimes talk about books, games or movies.
Mothership: A GM's Perspective
Mothership is a rules-light Sci-Fi horror RPG with some neat mechanics and one of the best Game Master Books that I have ever read.
This is one of the best RPGs to run if you want to play a game that feels like Alien, Event Horizon or 2001 a Space Odyssee.
In this GM's perspective, I tell you what the game is about, who it is for, show of the rules and my highlights and finally tell you what other books to use with this game.
Here are all the books I show in the Video.
Follow my affiliate link, and I get a small percentage of your purchases, that I will put towards more RPG stuff.

How to Run Stealth Infiltration and Heists

I once had a player tell me, that stealth is useless, because as soon as anyone fails a roll, you have to fight anyhow. That got me thinking, of how to approach stealth, infiltration and heist scenarios, so that stealth not only becomes a viable option, but to make these kind of games great fun! The Book the Algorithm does not want you to read
You picked a great time to break this down. I’m itching to buy the new edition as a bit of a reward once I take care of some goals I’ve been working on.
Great vid bro, thanks for the rundown, very helpful.🫡
Planning to run it tomorrow for the first time, your gm perspective review was useful, thank you!
All good and reasonable suggestions. I also like the sense of discovery that can occur when traveling. Shadowdark and Black Sword Hack handle travel pretty well.
Good advice .... maybe add that the number of NPCs need to be limited. Also their names should be easy to distinguish and remember.
Great!
Great suggestions. I am definitely a fan of using random tables to add unexpected events to travelling.
I really like your framework of discoveries, challenges and meaningful choices. For more plot and character driven games and campaigns you can replace travel time with downtime/in-between-time focused on factions/fronts/crafting/clocks. Fiction is rarely a detailed travel log and more a collection of scenes that matter to the individual characters and overall plot. What matters to your PCs and campaign? Do they want to learn more about important NPCs, rival factions or baddies. And with that knowledge do they want to harm or help their plans, ask for their help or try to play NPC-1 against NPC-2?
- travelling players must learn something about the world - players should be challeneged in some way - players should be given choices while travelling, so that they feel like they have agency and control. All these points are great, and definitely make travel better
Tip 1 - prepare multiple encounters and NPCs to find in the world. (Personal addition - either place these encounters on the map, or log which ones are used, add a new one to the list when you're bored, and present a few randomly from the list when travel happens)
Tip 2 - put challenges in, with varieties beyond combat. Have social encounters, obstacles like broken bridges, and combat as well. Present the challenges randomly, on different routes. Allow for various solutions from the players.
Tip 3 - resource management. Ask the players if they want to do this - many players don't like it! Have players carry required resources for the journey. Have challenges occurring that may affect them based on equipment they have. (Personal tip, don't always raid their items. Have food go off, or the party get ill from bad food variety. Have equipment break, or mules tire from moving too much kit. Adjust to your players so that they have a fun challenge.)
Tip 4 - give players choice in direction. Provide information, so they know the impact of their choices. Make sure the choices are balanced, such as puzzle Vs combat, or time Vs danger.
Nice report from the front 👍 I prepare this first adventure for my players and your suggestions and ideas are extremly helpfull :-) Thanks for sharing
Have fun!
I liked your analysis, thanks.
Already own it, I genuinely want to get my players to do this instead of another D&D campaign when our current one is done. I’m the DM and host but don’t want to force anyone into a new system. But man I like the Borg systems so much more.
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this! Your heart and head went into this review and it shows. You have convinced me to run Ruins of Symbaroum for my next campaign!
GREAT INTRO! I just discovered Symbaroum and this is perfect! BTW - I recommend purchasing "Into the Wyrd and Wild" by Charles Ferguson-Avery as a great resource to make PCs fear the woods in future campaigns you run.
Way ahead of you mate. Got a video about it on my channel. Great book!
Excellent review. I'm working on running my first campaign and gathering resources. Really appreciate that you suggested the fan made Combat Reloaded. You've saved me hours of heartache and difficult combat. I think you mentioned making a video on Starship creation. Is that coming? I can't find it. Thank you again for the great content.
I was thinking about the Starship creation tutorial, but on closer inspection, the rules are so easy, it would be a very short tutorial. Just pick a hull, put everything you want in it and continue to add up the price. Good luck with you campaign!
Great overview. Thank you. And I love the improved character sheet.
Our group was into Fate for quite a few games. I remember playing the Jim Butcher fictional universe in Fate. It seemed to have just enough mechanics to still feel like you're directly playing your character without getting into the territory of narrative abstraction that stuff like PBtA games look like they get into. Mind you, I've never played a PBtA game, but just reading through them feels like they would interject a layer of abstraction between you and your character that would fundamentally change how you play. In any case, I can see your point on aspects. They definitely are the meat of the game and porting the idea into other games sounds like a good idea. Fate seems to straddle that line between still roleplaying your character while adding in the narrative elements.
Love Knock zine. So many great TTRPG ideas. Thanks for reviewing! ❤
Thank you
Ahh, the face behind the hands 😄 Your voice is great as a narrator.
your accent and cadence are very pleasant.
very useful video

Many thanks for ur thoughts about the Game and is a wonderful one indeed!
So you cant Evade arrows right? Only if you have i sheild and parry?
This was cool and explained a lot. Thank you!
Thanks for the info on this. It'll be perfect for my 5 Parsecs game. also, you have a wonderful voice ❤️
Would this setting be a good choice for something like the Black Sword Hack? Seems like the corruption theme would fit.
One of the fun things for the Black Sword Hack is making your own setting. But I can see running Symbaroum with it. There is a definate S&S vibe to the setting.
I had just listened to you review of the Black Sword Hack and when you were mentioning the shortcomings of the game system for Symbaroum I was thinking it seemed like a possible good fit. I've played too much 5e to be excited about the 5e version
@@Big_Trouble You must have played a lot of 5E! Know what? Try doing a Shadowdark,, Forbidden Lands or Dragonbane hack for Symbaroum to fit your GM style. (that's what I'm been thinking about.) I feel there is potential there. Sorry, I can't give to concrete an answer, it very much depends on where you put you focus when GMing. Shadowdark for Rules-Light Dungeon Crawling, Forbidden Lands for Hexcrawling Dragonbane if you are looking for more of an all-round alternative to 5E. I suspect Free Leauge will release a 2E of Symbaroum at some point as well.
@@Sebbaasdungeon Yes, plenty of 5E at cons, local game store, and with a home group. I don't think 5E is terrible but it doesn't appeal to me as much as when it first came out. I do think most of the WOTC supplements have declined in quality though. Thanks for the suggestions. I've been reading Shadowdark and I think it looks good. I played Forbidden Lands at a con and really enjoyed that one. Don't have any experience with Dragonbane though.
I love this video. Thank you ❤️
Thanls for letting us know!
This is a great kickstarter
THREE TORCHES DOWN:
GAME OVER
Rudeneck.
Mercurial magic is excellent. This game makes every class very cool to play.
Great review! Very precise and comprehensive, as the setting requires. And deeply poetic, as it deserves.
Tack!
hey, love your style! I am a solo player and so far BSh is one of the 3 ttrpgs I've played the most this year and it gained a special place in my digital bookshelf! it's a very very good game and it allows for so much creativity in many aspects like narrative, world building, and monster creation. the rules are so light and tight its a perfect canvas to create on top of it, using the many aids provided in it with its random tables and evocative art. cheers from Uruguay!
I've really enjoyed reading through "Sky ov Crimson Flame" and have run most of it (sans the final few encounters). It and the follow up (Blights ov the Eastern Forest) are very cool and thematic
Dungeon Crawl Classics is a fantastic game! It has the best magic system ever! Thank you for this video!
I can't support Goodman Games anymore. They're very anti-white. They apologized for putting together an RPG panel that was "too white" because they picked relevant people from the industry. The apology panel they put together afterward was an embarrassment. They had to pull in people from marketing and people who had never published anything to fill out the DEI quota. They also donate generously to organizations like NAACP and BLM that stoke racial animosity for money. It's gross.
Very nice Vid about the special magic of DCC 👍 I completely agree.
Thx DCC day was awesome!
Are your hands huge or is that a small book?
Combination of both. The book is digest or A5 sized. I want to compare my bicep to Runehammer one day. 😉 Who earns the title of "biggest" RPG youtuber? 😁
Sounds great. I've got my copy on order.
I really like the setting but the rule that you have to roll under your stat is meh to me.
Roll-under is a very basic rules concept though. I take it you don't like Call of Cthulhu, or anything else based on Runequest either? I personally like it, because it is very easy to calculate your chances of success for any roll. Often you don't have to calculate at all.
@@Sebbaasdungeon I just find it wired that it makes no difference to hit every enemie with the same chance. That is my major gripe with it. I really like a lot of things about Dragonbane and Free League is my fvorite RPG maker of them all. I just prefere the rules of Forbidden Lands. I still like the setting of Dragonbane a lot. And the art is beautiful.
Nice video. A few questions. Why did the wizard go before the goblin archer? It had a 7 while he swapped for a 9? And shouldn’t the parry have flipped the goblin fighters card as he used his action to parry?
Well spoted. This was the third take I believe, and I still made some mistakes. 😅
@@Sebbaasdungeon Oh man. I hope I didn’t come off rude. I’m learning the system as well and was just trying to clarify things. I really did enjoy your video!
@@angelg9070 No worries. You should watch my Coriolis combat video. That was like the 4th take in the course of 1 week, and I still got lot of stuff wrong, because I had a fever. 😅
Great voice. Clear concise content.
