I have 2 Nordic tattoos ( fully aware they are not historically accurate in any way) like all my tattoos they are simply things I like or happen to relate to. Nordic culture and history has been a autistic obsession of mine, so I tell everything I know about the symbol and don't actually pretend it's like real viking shii some guy pointed to my vegvisir and said "cool viking tattoo" I said thanks but spent far to long explaining it's basically knockoff viking shit from the 1800s lol. still love the meaning it has to me tho

Ai is incredibly bad at, among other things, celtic knotwork often prominent in nordic tattoos. It’s like it just can’t be bothered with the over/under weave stuff.

I know this is a few years old. Hopefully someone sees this and helps me out. I'm from MN and no I'm not associating with our American "foot"ball team. Even though I'm a proud fan. Skol Vikes. Lol ADHD but I'm 2nd Generational American my family immigrated from Norway. my maiden name is (Wolden [vul-dun]). Anyways. My Hebrew mother is why my name is RachAEL. Anyways I speak on that because I'm the past Rachael Burt doesn't sound Norsk. Because it's not. Again ADHD. So my father passed and I want to get a Nordic tattooed. He loves being Norwegian so much and I would love to honor him but also like what I believe maybe vikings would do would make a tattoo of loved one but resembles like something about the person. Like my father would definitely be protection and my grandfather would be knowledge. I don't want to be incorrect since it will be on my body. I know there isn't a authentic Nordic tattoo. But I don't wanna be a dumb American either. Ideas would help this for me. I do love me some ruins. But my brain just doesn't think in creative.

I am Swedish, and I have been tattooing on and off for 28 years, totalt agree with your points made. Vikings were inovators, im sure they would use electeicity and still be inovators in many eran and trades. So basicly a viking tattoo is what any northerner get tattooed therse days, and im sadden to say the modern Vikings wear fuxkin pockwatches ans random grek gods and shit like anybody else😅 i think the right approach is to be inspired by art from that era, it looks cool and thats a good enough reason for visual art😊 great video👌

I would have runes to represent magic. But if I could, I'd get a dragon not to frighten friends or family or whatever, but for protection y'know? I think I'd get the world serpent and Fenrir his brother just 'cause they are cool and I'd like to think they'd give me a connection to nature and animals. Hellooooo I am a teen who hopes to get a nordic tattoo once of age! I was just wondering, because research is very difficult for me, is what would you recommend as a tattoo for the inside of the forearm? I am testing at the moment with a pen and drawing simple runes or designs on my arm, but I am IN LOVE with anything relating to Norse - fantasy or not - and I want to make sure I don't screw up when getting a tattoo based on Norse or Viking. I don't want to get anything grand or that could be painful as hell, but I want something NORSE just pure Norse. Any suggestions or advice?

Well so why is Ægirs symbol not Viking/Nordic? Agree with Vegvísir is a icelandic. But I don't agree with you on the Ægir part. Because That was used by the nordic in the viking age.

I'm American so yeah, obviously I'm not a norsemen or "viking", but I do have great appreciation and admiration for their culture. My ancestors were both Anglo-Saxon and Norse, and a little bit of Klamath-Modoc (Native American) in me too. I like being proud of my nationality, while also being proud of my heritage. Soon I'm going to be learning how to speak Norsk (Norwegian), and on top of that I want to study Nordic Futhark. Everything from the Scandinavian environment, language, culture, people, music, history, etc, I'm obsessed with. With all that being said, no one are vikings nowadays. The vikings were literally Norse pirates lol but that doesnt mean people can't study, admire, and appreciate Scandinavian culture or their history

You cant define vikings as “only rapist and pilliging”, this par of my ansetors was going on for a couple of 100years, while they was farmers, settlers and family ppl for much longer. I totally agree that anyone who want to enjoy the culture and history they of course can, as well as I can hang a Monet in my living room. If there is a small part of me who love the occupation of areas in England, and the pilliging, it is, my ansestors was (mostly) attacking christians who manipulated and stole from locals with one hand, and the bible in the other hand. The hardcore christians to this date believe the world was creted, is it 6000y ago, by a “guy” who only worked 6 days a week.

I did a Vegvisir the other day. I thought it was a Viking Compass but that is not why I got it. If I am correct in my research Vegvisir means way shower (compass). I placed this on my left chest over my heart because home is where my heart is and the way shower will always help me find my way home. As I am a commercial diver and spend 75% of my life away from home and out in the middle of the ocean and in my research the Vegvisir is a symbol of protection and direction. I was going to get a normal western compass over my heart but I wanted something with more meaning, In my opinion the Nordic people where great sailors and I am still happy with my choice as to what the symbol of the Vegvisir means to me.
