It almost makes me want to cry when I see how the popular English bible translations obscure the meaning of the text. Here is how I read it from the Greek NT: Stephanus Textus Receptus 1550 2 Corinthians 5:21 τὸν γὰρ μὴ (Who but not) γνόντα ἁμαρτίαν (having known sin) ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν ἁμαρτίαν (on behalf of our sin) ἐποίησεν (was sacrificed) ἵνα ἡμεῖς γινώμεθα (so that we might become) δικαιοσύνη θεοῦ ἐν αὐτῷ (righteous unto God in him.) Verb ἐποίησε • (epoíēse) third-person singular aorist active indicative of ποιέω ποιέω (poiéō) definition 1 10. (later Greek) to sacrifice 300 BCE - 200 BCE, Septuagint, Exodus 29.36 300 BCE - 200 BCE, Septuagint, Job 42.8 300 BCE - 200 BCE, Septuagint, 1 Kings 11.33 It is not saying that Jesus was made to be sin for us! It says that he was sacrificed for our sins. ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν ἁμαρτίαν ἐποίησεν (on behalf of our sin was sacrificed)
