Yes the America class. Imagine a Wasp class without a well deck. Slightly worse but newer and more expensive. 👍
Those men with torchs look like ants working.
The T-Birds dont use colored smoke
YES!!!!
I was stationed on the USS America CV-66 back in 1982-1984 S-2 div as an MS...THIS is not MY USS AMERICA
USS Ford is 1106’ in length. The Nimitz class is 1092’ in length.

NOT a vertically launched missile.
No one was arrested for this crime. Sabotage
the best there is.....
Vertical takeoff and landing does NOT make it an "Aircraft Carier". You think they might take the time to learn the difference. There are all types of ships out there that have a helo and hanger. Does that make them an Aircraft Carrier too? No offense to the Gator Navy, but come on man.
@@daveperala4723 Do some homework. In 1981 USS Nassau was sent to the Mediterranean to provide mandated coverage as a “second carrier”. Tarawa and Wasp AND America class ships are capable of vertical AND full deck run takeoffs for fixed wing Harrier and Lightning “aircraft”. A little research will also uncover the OV10 Bronco aircraft also launched off LHA-1 class flight decks. You know it alls need to research your answers before writing here on a site that lends itself to knowledge.
Federal Fire Department San Diego was the first due & incident command on this fire. I retired from the department in 2006. It's almost impossible to vent shipboard fires! Because compartments are all air & water tight!
The ship was NOT an aircraft carrier. It was an LPH (landing platform helicopter).
Actually LHD - wasp class. Capable of helicopter AND fixed wing air operations. LPH class ships are long gone and were not fixed wing capable. Thats why LHA class (and after) were designed.
@foleyhurt They are only capable of verticle takeoff and landing fixed wing air craft.
@@billsanders5067which ship LPH? Yes. LHD? They are fully capable of full deck run takeoff.
They call it an aircraft carrier to click-bait you - unfortunately, it works.
@randallchin9238 FYI moron, I was in the navy for four years and made three Westpac cruises, moverver, all of the ships I served on were amphibs, so I do know more thing about how navy ships are classified. If you know so much about the navy, exactly how long did surve and what was your rating?
Though the 2012 loss of Miami, also during maintenance, was arson. Even a military court found Mays not guilty on any charge. Though at least 20 officers were censured for negligence etc.. Major issues included turning off fire suppression system during maintenance and inability to close hatches because of utility lines being run through them during maintenance. The main fault was not having active damage control teams on duty during this period which experience should have indicated was a period of heightened risk. Given also both their lack of training and defective equipment there are even more reasons why they should have been on duty i.e. working on sorting both these defects. Given that no major fire fuel source was involved this failure is beyond pathetic.
I'm sure sabotage had something to do with it.
They had better add Sabotage to the list of possible reasons for the fire.

Visiting Naval Station Norfolk would be an amazing experience
Naval Station Norfolk is on the Elizabeth River, not the Chesapeake Bay. Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story is on the Chesapeake and NAS Oceana is just off the Atlantic Ocean.
The idea of seeing the world’s largest naval station and its powerful fleet up close is mind-blowing!
Would you ever want to visit Naval Station Norfolk and see this hub of naval power in action? 💬 Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
Yes I sure would!
The dimensions of the USS America are very close to the Essex class carriers built during WWII. While the Essex flight deck was 872 feet long and 109' wide that of the USS America are 844' long and 106' wide. However she has a much heavier displacement. Of course the Essex carriers that were retained were heavily modified after the war to get the hurricane bow and the angled flight deck. You can get lost on either one. Fortunately, if you know the code, the compartment numbers will tell you where you are.
Very good video and very complete!
I love the visuals in the video!

The tiltrotor design is definitely a game-changer! It combines the vertical lift of a helicopter with the speed and range of a fixed-wing aircraft, making it incredibly versatile for both combat and logistics. I think it has a lot of potential for the future of military aviation, especially for rapid response and missions in challenging terrains.
What do you think about the revolutionary tiltrotor design? Is it the future of military aviation? 💬 Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
In 1970, I played my guitar and played and sang Vietnam protest songs while stationed aboard the America. As I type this, my ears are still ringing from watching flight operations. Great memories.
Imagine if the money they spent building this ship, they could feed the homeless or put them in homes. But war is more important.
These ships are the reason the world is at peace. They project power to resist tyranny. It is childish to believe we don't need them.
AMEN !
Certainly as a captain!!
A small hypersonic missile and not a single aircraft carrier left
Definitely the flight deck crew! It’s dangerous but looks so thrilling to be part of launching and recovering jets.
