This actually worked great with the addition of a little canned air to blow out the last remnants of dust. I was going to pull it off to clean it, but it's well adhered with the old thermal paste and I was concerned about breaking it pulling on it (super broke, cant afford a new PC if I break it!). Heatsink and fan look like new, and it doesn't even rev up anymore when gaming. Win/win! The toothpick was key in dislodging the dust and crud.

no solder, no heat shrink, this is dangerous, one hard tug can fail and cause fire.

Why did you separate the wires right before taping them ?

Just a question would would happen if its been cut once and its been cuts again in a different place? Will it still work twice in two different places?

My Dad had a bunch of solid brass wildlife statuettes. If they would start to get green on them. He pour a box of baking soda in a 5 gallon bucket add 4 gallon of water. He'd soak them over night. Than he'd rinse them off. Than add 4 quarts atf in a 5 gallon bucket, & add 2 qurts kerosene. He'd let them sit for about 3 day. He'd take them out, put on drain rack & polish with a buffing wheel. Them things would shine for about 2 years. He'd clean them about every 5 years. I asked him why he did that. He said the baking soda liquefied the corrosion. The Transmission fluid puts moisture back in the brass & kerosene dissolves everything in the pits. He said that's how we kept our ammo clean in vietnam. The m16 jammed all the time & at the worst time. The moisture helped ammo slide & didn't have corrosion jamming guns.

Any advice for doing this with 5 wires in the cable?

I've done this to a 19th c brass candlestick using salt and vinegar encased in saran wrap. I got nice results. I also closed it inside box with a little vinegar and salt on the actual candlestick. The vinegar fumes cause patina and the salt was stuck to it. Its an experiment. I'm wondering if it could turn pink.

can i use hands cleaning alchol instead of isopropyl alchol

I was replacing a really old lamp holder and I couldn't figure out which slot (conductor) was for the live wire and which one for the neutral wire. After some research, there is apparently an old British convention that the neutral slot will have some ridges in them. So the blue wire goes to the slot with ridges and brown wire goes to the slot that's smooth. I hope this tip comes in handy for someone 😊 If in doubt, call a professional!
