Hi Per. I really enjoy your videos, bought your course and learned a lot. What are your thoughts on EDLP (Everyday Low Prices), the pricing strategy that Walmart is famous for? A lot of businesses use Walmart's case as justification for charging lower prices. They think "I'll set a price that's affordable for most people, sell a ton of product and make my money that way." Maybe you could make a video on this. Keep up the great work.
Sorry for late reply. Just saw your comments. Happy you like my videos and course. Everyday low prices is acceptable for commodities, but, since you bring up Walmart, a basket of goods from Walmart is more expensive than the same basket from Target. It is a viable business to run a low price/low margin business, but it has to be run very differently than a business that focuses on profits. Very different customers. Back to groceries - some 20 maybe 25 years ago, Walmart decided to expand into Germany, to, as they said "Teach the Germans low prices." They bought a small chain of 7, maybe 9 stores and turned them into Walmarts. It faild miserably. Two reasons. 1/ Their assortment was not tailored to the local market but was esentially the same as they sell here in the US. 2/ They found to their amazment that local compeition was on the average 20% more expensive. Related to the latter, as Aldi and Lidl expand into the US market, they are about 20% lower in price compared to other grocery stores, including Walmart.
