@@BeeSwarmerz Yeah don't worry the vod will be up! I'll try time stamping it tomorrow if I can!
I'm putting this here otherwise I'm going to forget, but it might be a cool idea to have the MC wear a flash drive as a necklace as the last thing to remember his parents by and also serve as a driving force to find the other flash drives.
Ooooo that's a good idea, maybe one with a crack or something so that they know it won't be useful in the long run but still can provide a clue to what to look for along with being a memory piece to remember their parents by
So what I'm gathering from the subtitles is that you are falsely advertising yourself as a wood elf because clearly you are a Melon Lord
Noooo I'm Maelo the wood elf I promise XD
7:30 "the writers have found me", I prefer the term big dumb nerd. Also if you were thinking of individual character motivations for finding information, one of them could be finding recipes for dishes. It's not the most altruistic goal, but it's still pretty realistic and could add some depth to the character as being more of a caregiver. Also sports is a thing you could add although if you have card/board games then you might not need it, but it could be an alternative. I'm also curious what kind of slang terms might exist in this new world. Language is obviously very complicated and although major shifts would happen, the amount of time it would take to develop it is probably not worth it for most people. It could also be interesting to have some of the non-functional 'new' technology be part of a cargo cult. A cargo cult if you didn't know is where during WWI and WWII, americans and other allies went to islands for tactical reason and brought with them the advanced technology such as planes and modern medicine, but after the war they left a lot of the items and the villagers would build shrines to these pieces of technology, trying to essentially get them back by worshipping them. i didn't intend to write so much this time but I couldn't help myself lol
No worries and good to know I shall call you a nerd next time ig? XDD The slang would probably a miss match of things that people remembered/found and cargo cult is an intersting concept, it might be something that they encounter along their journey

This looks like a really interesting concept for a story. I wonder if you would take inspiration from the dark ages as well or other time periods where there was a lot of knowledge loss too. With the steampunk, I wonder if you guys will take in the themes of over-industrialisation from the industrial revolution and the unending desire for progress above all means often with the sacrifice of social stability. From the looks of it, it sounds you guys are more borrowing the technology from the era instead of those themes associated with the genre especially considering there's a barter system. I do think it would be interesting to see how it plays into the post-apocalyptic genre that it looks like the story is headed towards with global warming and such. With the barter system, this does imply a collapse of government as required to substitute a government backed currency, essentially there's no king's head on the coins. This doesn't have to be the case, but it could be due to the post-apocalyptic themes. That being said the question of who holds the power is a very important question, in the google docs it says there might be a central government, but how did they get there and how do they stay in power? As well as how does the pirate villain play into this? Is she intercepting trade routes? Attacking against an oppressive force. This could be a really great parallel to the MC who is an orphan and someone wronged by the system with the classic idea of whether the ends justify the means. Also evil organisation gatekeepers could have ties if not direct involvement with the government as a way for the government to control the people. With the trains I wonder how the rail infrastructure would have changed over the years of possible disrepair as even now in the US there is a significant amount of rail infrastructure that has been shut down for various reasons (line closures, maintenance, beaurocracy, etc.) Right now I'm creating a world for fun that's basically mundane sort of cryptids and other semi-strange things that are extrapolated into fantastical ideas. One of the things that I'm researching regarding that world is Ghost Stations or Geisterbahnhof of like stations that were built but never opened. All of that to say, trains are very complicated because you have questions about; are the track gauges standardised, what kinds of trains are running, who's making these trains and who's maintaining them, are they rebuilding track or stations to suit their current needs? With the idea of data retrieval, I really like the idea, the twist could be a heartbreaking reality that the data decayed in the meantime anyway and only some of it is useful. The only problem I see is accessing the data on a USB drive if you only have steampunk stuff, but it could be worked around I think, although technically USB drives do use quantum mechanics to store and transfer data which might be out of the scope of the technology available if the characters have to understand it. Another idea for the story could be going to find seed banks for agriculture, especially with global warming being a major factor, maybe scientists were in the process of making more resistant crops (I believe they do atm). I know this is a whole chunk of text for someone who has only seen 28 minutes of the stream so far, but I'm really interested in what you guys are doing. I will watch the rest, it is just that it is currently 2:30am and I did not expect to write this long of a comment.
Oh my god thank you so much for writing this! You've asked a lot of fantastic questions, some of which are kind of addressed later in the stream and some of which I have not thought of yet. Though this really did give me a lot to think about since I'm still very much in the process of creating this. But if you have any more thoughts after watching more I would love to hear them!
@@maeloluxden Another interesting question is what kind of games exist in this new world? Are they popular games that the reader knows? are they new simple games that exist now or are they maybe even older games from the past that people have found? I think games can be good for multiple reasons; they can be good character building, for example Albert could explain the rules, showing the reader why he is smart (does he explain in technical terms? is he patient when teaching?), another aspect is that it could serve as a payoff for a later conflict if it has to do with strategy or just in general with a mental obstacle the character(s) need to overcome, and lastly, as a break between story beats and adding to the overall world building. Examples for existing games might be chess, go, poker, hearts, craps, cheat/bs, Gin Rummy, bridge, mahjong. In ancient Rome there was Tali/astragali which was similar to poker but with dice, game of robbers which was similar to chess and other dice games. "Card games first arrived in Italy from Mamluk Egypt in the 14th century" according to Wikipedia and Chess was also around that time as well as it is very old. With the pirate lady maybe being a hired mercenary, there could still be internal conflict depending on how complicated you want the story and relationships to be. My personal opinion with her bossing around minions would be that it could be funny but doesn't fit with the themes of pirates, which were all about comradery and not hierarchical because if you were unpopular there'd be a mutiny. However, I think it's fine either way With trains, there's a good opportunity to have a conflict on the train because it's just a good closed scenario where escape has a lot of risk and could cause a lot of damage. Also if you have climate change and rising sea levels, make sure that the countries that are currently sinking don't exist in the world, including Venice in Italy which could be an interesting bit of worldbuilding to mention as well
@@crystalshard1349 Ooooo once again a lot of good points to think about thank you again for sharing your thoughts! I'll probably work on it a little off-stream but I would love to discuss some do these points in the next stream!!
