Original version: Pachelbel Canon conducted (1969) by Karajan
This elegant, joyful version keeps emotional depth while revealing the ingenious structure of the whole piece. The brilliant canon works at any tempo, the original score does not contain a tempo indication!

Gilels recorded also this masterpiece several times, he was looking for all levels of truth within of a piece in a lively and fresh manner. The present version one is very remarkable for its determination, explosive energy and emotional depth. It evokes the metaphor of the sun, the burning gas ball with 6000° degrees temperate at the surface and more than 15 million degrees in the core keeping ...

Tribute to the in the literal meaning "universal" composer Bach by Siloti (changing the key, exchanging the hands and reducing the left hand of a part of Bach´s score Prelude & Fugue No. 10 in E Minor BWV 855) and their congenial interpreter Gilels This interpretation represent a beautiful example of the creative option in art to formally reduce issues to the max, to the essential core. I like the speed on this one.
So good 💫🌿💦🎆
Wonderful composer, wonderful pianist. How sublime!
For me, the Best interpretation of my favorite nocturne
He vuelto a casa: ésta es la versión del Canon que escuché por primera vez y que hasta hoy no había vuelto a encontrar. Muchas gracias por su trabajo.

I my God! This is the version of Cannon my brother gave me. Unfortunately, the CD was ruined. I cherish this version.❤️
Unbelievable.
Magnifique version du Canon de Pachelbel ! Merci !
Always like fast pace from Herr Karajan....perhaps the original was much slower but this interpretation and intonation is just so enjoyable.....
A perfect artist with no showmanship !
I love it! Thanks 😊
Stunning.
The best version ever. Took me years to locate the gramophone record. Here is the number. It's inexpensive 2530 247 www.discogs.com/Albinoni-Pachelbel-Boccherini-Respighi-Berliner-Philharmoniker-Herbert-von-Karajan-Adagio/release/3316713
Give Leo Sirota a listen.
Hermoso
😍😍😍😍
From those first few shimmering notes I knew what a wonderful treat I was in for, and then it just got better
This is the best rendition of Chopin's Nocturne No.1 I have heard. The lyrical and poetic depth, the intensity, the lack of rushed-ness especially in the second, faster repetition of the main motif, the gentle swaying feeling - this is perfect.
SUBLIME !
Esto es cultura!
Best song instrumen 🏅🏅🏅
Fast or slow , it doesn't matter..It's " CANON"... This is music for soul. Pachelbel is immortal.
actually canons are fast, canon is a genre
Joyful, Freude, Alegría et Amour.
The part from 3:50 to the end is pure gold
This is verison is so fast. Is this how it was supposed to sound like when it was composed in the 1600's?
Yep, this is the original idea when Pachelbel wrote it
a calamity not listen until the end and j like Gilels mostly in Grieg
This version makes me ready to fight back and conquer the world! Canon from Pachelbel my fuel to keep going on this hard life...
Von Karajan's conducting, once again, shines
To me this is the best interpretation. I've been listening to this for over 10 years (that's almost half my age) 😀
The best interpretation in my opinion too. What a magical sound, absolute taste and delicacy towards the composition and the author.
It's not just "too fast" , it is almost compeletely different to the version of the later version.
Now THIS is the version I'd have at my wedding! Also perfect music to accompany the swan booty pictures. :D Thanks for the upload!
Myra Hess
a very deep version ....
So much vigor! 💪
Super❤
This is the best version I've found. I'm stopping my search. This one brings the Harpsichord forward, and it is paced at Pachebel's orginal pace. The slower version sounds more like a funeral dirge. I'll keep both. It's difficult to find better than Karajan, so this is the place to stop searching.
Couldn't agree more Lengo67,.. I sum up my sentiments in a comment if you scroll towards the top. Cheers, and happy listening.. by the way, you should hear the second movement to this also by Von Karajan, the Gigue, equally is beautifully and enhanced.
First time I listened to this version, I was about 20, in 1976. Till now I can't hear other versions... Karajan, IMHO, is the best in Baroque and Romantic.
Karajan plays the harpsichord too.
Boroque tempo is the best!
Yes, this is the reference recording. Von Karajan has recorded further versions of the Canon at other times, but here the spirit of the moment among the artists has led to the best artistic version (so far, but it will be hard for anyone to excel) 😀
My very favorite of all time versions of full symphony orchestra form 1969
Claudio Arrau the best version ever....
I heard folks on RUclips here said it is supposed to be quick it is a dance music, Dirge.
even with 1949 Soviet recording technology, Gilels' golden tone and artistry shine through
Абсолютно верно!
Another beautiful interpretation. The highest honors of course go to the person who gave pianists such a perfect piece of art to shine with: Chopin.
This Masterpiece by Pachelbel was brought out of obscurity single-handedly to great renown in 1968 by Jean-François Paillard,a French conductor..Johann Pachelbel A man undoubtedly musically ahead of his time, even modern pop music follows his chord progression.
"anyone any better idea?" --> Yes, this has been my favorite work for piano for a long time. I have listened to several dozen pianists perform it. You can find a number of pianists who play the first part well, but maybe not the rest. The one that is clearly on top for me is Fou Ts'ong. It's because of the way he plays the last section. It is astoundingly perfect, virtuosic, and passionate. And I haven't heard anyone who approaches his level. I really like Gilels' interpretation; but it is somewhat messy/choppy.
