    I agree with most of your guidance. Though involving HR is considered highly adversarial and should be a last resort used with receipts only. A tactic I’ve witnessed is killing the bully and all primary associates/ peers with kindness and forming strong networks with influential higher-ups. These provide a layer of protection and forces the bully to potentially risk their reputation by attacking you. This tactic works especially if you are outgoing and generally likable/ respectable (most people are).

    "We are family" is often dribble foisted on us by HR. I wouldn't necessarily run if I saw that on their website, but if they say "We work hard and play hard" that's a sign of a sweatshop. Communication issues during the interview is a big one. If you have trouble understanding all of your interviewers, or your would be manager is unintelligible, then run. It'll only get worse if you take the job. I recently took a software position and quit after two months because of this. I realize it's a round world and people are people, but software development is 75% communication and collaboration and only 25% coding. If you can't communicate, then the job is pretty much done for.

    Another one that you didn't mention, though it might fall under the "multi-tasking" one is if you hear them say "We wear many hats." It means you'll be expected to do the work of four employees at the salary of one.

    The longer this video goes on the more it makes me realize I'm not meant For a typical corporate or office environment. I loved the military, despite the toxic leadership. (Which has infected all of the branches) I loved the culture and change of pace and environment. And I really enjoyed bulk oil delivery (trucking) In both of these career Fields I got to be outside, interact with customers, build relationships, and most of my staff members all had a sense of humor and looked out for each other. I work an office job right now in a STEM field. It seems prevalent that these organizations expect you to be fully certified and qualified on your own dime. And have no interest in developing their staff. I say this because I know a lot of people in their 20s and 30s burnt out from experiencing the same thing.

    My previous employer used to psychologically punish me for dressing well. I would be punished for being charismatic. The last 5 years of my career after winning over all of my haters they started isolating me from new people. One woman even recognized what was going on and in a concerned voice said why isn’t he allowed to talk to me. I could tell you things about my employer that are so disgusting it’s mind blowing. You got it right though a million and a half micro perks, but they refuse to treat you with basic human respect. It’s like being on the playground again and you’re surrounded by all the kids with dads in jail. One of my managers was so disgusted that I lost weight and got physically fit she over heard a conversation I was having with another guy that was getting fit and she scoffed and it was loud. I was called over to participate in a mentorship meeting with newer employees and they were all smiling at me intently listening. One of my psychotic coworkers saw it and gave me the squinty eyed predator stare. Then the supervisor silenced me. What you say is spot on. Be aware the toxicity in these companies can get so deep you would need a search warrant to be able to discuss the truth without being silenced. There is an unwritten rule in my company that is do not outshine your master. The problem is they assume they are masters but they give you not even scraps. I dont advocate for Machiavellian management but they even got this wrong. To be a master not outshined you have to give your subjects something in return. My leadership was narcissistic, psychopathic and megalomaniacal. Even just me being liked as a person was a problem for them.

    good video and good points. I have dealt with all of them at some point. for me personally, if I cant listen to headphones / music while I work, I wont take the job. Might seem petty, but I know what I need to perform at a high level. I treat my job interviews as if I'm interviewing them because the reality is that I need to make sure this new potential employer will be worth my time and skills. I will be spending 1/3 to half the rest of my life there, so they better be a good match.

    • @kristenbahbahani
      @kristenbahbahani Месяц назад

      It's a very valid concern, and thank you for raising it. Unfortunately, as both an attorney and executive coach, I've seen too many emails that incriminated the other party disappear once the issue was escalated. It nearly cost one of my client's her tenure bid. So definitely save those email to an outside source. If you're uncomfortable sending it to a dropbox or your personal email, screenshot or take a picture with your phone - anything with a date/timestamp. And remember, this is not the first line of defense. That would be to save it to your work computer. This is a second line in case that email or slack message "accidentally" disappears...which, as mentioned, I've seen happen way too often. And finally, remember to save anything that makes you look good. Example, if the bully is trying to fire you or claims you're terrible at your job, make sure you're saving kind emails that praise you from other colleagues and clients. And, yes, I've seen those disappear, too. Bottom line, saving everything and back it up.

    • @kristenbahbahani
      @kristenbahbahani Месяц назад

      Ooo, great question. I think it will get better in early 2025, but the lingering threat of tariffs might cause some employers (think chip manufacturers, like Nvidia) to move cautiously. Now that we are past the US election, there is more certainty among employers. Remember, certainty drives the market.

    I was laid off last week. Thank you for these tips. I happened to have a friend working at a company with a perfect fit job for me. I applied and heard back from them after two days, but the phone interview was scheduled for 8 business days later. Do you think I have a good shot at getting this job and do you have any tips for nailing a phone interview. I am a true millennial and feel very uncomfortable on phone calls.

    • @kristenbahbahani
      @kristenbahbahani 2 месяца назад

      Do you know if the phone interview is with the recruiter or the hiring manager? That would determine how I would approach it. I made a video about making it past the recruiter if you know it's a screening interview - ruclips.net/video/KeeJcKdT5yE/видео.html If it's with the hiring manager, I have a low cost guide at worklikeagirl.co/products that focuses heavily on behavior based interview questions, and how to answer. My best advice is to practice, especially if nervous with the phone. Rehearse with multiple friends, write down your answers, and practice more. Good luck! I'm cheering for you.
