In most scenarios ki canceling doesnt make a difference, look at steedoj for a clear example its just annoying when someone does it knowing they are laggy, or square - triangling as a male earthling.

The real problem with ki canceling is that its abused, and typically used in tandem with ki stunning. The fact that i can land regular combos, no ki cancel/stun, is kinda miraculous when someone leads with a ki stun, if they miss immediately ki cancel, rinse and repeat the entire fight. People swear up and down its an intended mechanic, but it seems more like the devs dont care to fix it. Because they know it'll kill the playerbase now, if they'd done it early in the lifespan, no issue, but basically everyone does it now, to the point that if the devs came out, saying it was a glitch and patched it, most players would drop the game because they dont have a super easy, no risk ability to abuse. Why i think its not intended, two reasons, one: there is no super soul to support ki canceling/stunning. Not the best excuse as a definitely intended mechanic aura burst dash, also has no super soul. Two, the game doesnt teach you how to use it, there are no elder kai classes on ki cancelling/stunning, but they cover every other mechanic including new ones. Three, bots arent programed to ki cancel or ki stun. Some will use the new ui buff as an excuse that its intended, the devs most likely realized nobody would use ui without ki cancels so they enabled it. The devs just cant fix it now or the remainjng playerbase will throw a hissy fit. TLDR: i dont think Ki cancelling was intended, its a crutch tactic, and i may or may not be rage bating you ki cancelling/stunning addicts.

Personal opinion. You switched from your CaC to Cooler to perform your test which makes it feel unreliable given that Cooler is the best character in the game. Besides that I dont have a problem with ki cancel/stun or xy. They are cancel mechanics and they can be gotten around. The only reason anyone really complains about it is because Steedoj said they were cheap then proceeds to play timid in a game that rewards timidity and if he loses to it its a built in excuse. Also you should learn to conserve your stamina. Theres no reason to be in green health with no stam. If people learned this theyd be a lot better off on this game. ki stun has always been a db mechanic, heck, half of the BT3 offensive meta revolves around ki stun with the ascending blasts to get around the built-in combo unsafer. Ki cancel is just weird cuz it makes 80% of your kit safe

Imo Ki canceling is fine for certain characters that need it such as future Gohan and his horrible endlag. For someone like Cooler then yes it’s unfair but I’d prefer Ki canceling over Ki stunning.

I prefer to dodge given block is unreliable. I was literally told by ki cancelers to not dodge because people would be mad at me and then when I stopped dodging they ki canceled and cheesed me. Like if my spamming dodge and rushing them is considered contemptible how is spamming ki cancel not equally contemptible?

I’m always on the fence about janky unintentional fighting game mechanics like this. On one hand, they can make a game’s combat system more interesting for competitive play if they take actual skill to utilize properly. On the other hand, they can serve as an annoying crutch to fight against for people who don’t want to develop better game sense with the intended mechanics. Ki “canceling”, in my opinion, would be far more interesting if it was an actual mechanic with custom animations that lead to interesting combo routs; a “Ki extension”, if you will. “Shine Shot” and “Ki Blast Cannon” already kind of do this, but they take up a whole skill slot, which is unfortunate.

I'm beginning to think it depends on the character because some low tier characters are just so hard to use against others where it's sort of needed to keep up like female Saiyans unless they have super attacks to keep opponents on their toes like Double Sunday. Other characters like Goku, Hit, Male Earthlings, Male Saiyans are so good that they don't need it, but can be more insane with ki cancels. To me, its like this was not an intended mechanics but overtime the devs were just like "eh, people can use them, let's give advanced ai their own way to ki cancel and give the ability to certain characters"

I think Ki cancels take away from people learning how to be good at movement in the game because it basically gives them a out of jail free card. You can literally shoot and reset with a simple button press. The way xenoverse implements this is just bad. I think the ki blast button should be used for something and this method is actually pretty good but the game doesn't feel like these 2 functions were intentionally made together. I dont think dips mad ki cancels on purpose and it just kinda became a thing by the community. It is totally possible for someone who doesn't ki cancel to beat someone who does ki cancel. Ki stunning is the issue really

The biggest reasoning i refuse to learn or consider them anything but a glitch is the fact that not everything in the base game has been updated with ki canceling in mind, if reading your opponent's ki cancel was actually punishable with janemba's counter, and other such moves that are designed to counter ki moves, like basic ki blasts, the only reasoning to run the mentioned counter, I'd have zero problems, it'd be a glitch turned tech, but no, there's still shit that you get punished for using when reading the opponent perfectly. What fighting game punishes the better player? Bad one's.

The only people who get pissy about tech in a game are scrubs. If ki cancelling is a problem, ADAPT. It's that simple.

You do everything right from what I saw you back attack too much instead of dashing away, you wait until you use all your stamina to get offensive and you try to combo too much before doing a stamina break or skill attack so steedoj picked on those

You cant complain about ki-canceling being stupid and no-skill when you use Emperors Death Beam without even breaking his stamina.

These people should've stayed quiet when Android 16, Jaco, & Hercules were updated to do Ki stuns. A more recent example would be the buff UI was given.

At this point it doesn't matter cause it seems the Devs are making it a mechanic it more clearer than ever now because of UI buff.

Ki canceling only becomes a problem when lag gets involved. Lag+ anything like: the netcode and overpowered races/characters is what makes it it stupid. Because in lag with ki cancelling you basically make yourself completely invonurable by using ki cancels and some characters become litteraly untouchable especially when you're trying way too hard. People exploit this easily with using weak connections purposefully and lag switching. Some people cant control this but the fact some do is what makes it really cancer.

if sm1 start ki cancelling or ki stunning just start doing it if you dont, dont get mad if you lose.

It's an intended mechanic thays really easy to use. Also pretty easy to deal with (shadow crusher and crimson edge) The real issue people arent addressing is limit burst (super armour specificly) just kills the pace of the game and ruins my dramatic ukt finishes. Nobody likes those

I was actually gonna do a video on that eventually, on why I think cancels were poorly implemented considering the type of game xenoverse is, so is fun seeing that this discussion still happens. Cool video, and to the people who play a lot with cancels: it’s whatever, it’s a game at the end of the day, and if you have fun playing like this, you’re good, there’ll always be someone there who likes to play like you do, I just don’t really like to.

Steedoj is really fun to fight as he doesnt spam shit like Handy cannon, jump spike and God fist like all the bozo's out there do i wish i could fight him but hes Ps5 and i'm pc and i think Xenoverse 2 supports no cross-play which means i'll never be able to fight him i dont have a playstation either.

It's so wild to see Steed in another perspective. But yeah man good job getting to challenge one of thee best XV has to offer. I feel like it's really hard to take him on because Steed is the kinda player to be patient and read your every move. Just look at how that man perfect blocks and times his every move.
