My favs in 2024 were "Fried green tomatoes", "A tree grows in Brooklyn", "The piano tuner", "Silk", "Foster", "And every morning the way home gets longer and longer", "84, Charing Cross Road", "Life after life", "The Nightingale", "The lover" (Duras), "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" and a few more

    Haha Interesting sequel! 🙌Perhaps he could have written a book that turned out to be... The Age of Innocence ! I don't remember all the tiny details about the novel (I read it years ago) but your psychological analysis is on point. Let's not forget that social conventions are also weighing heavily on Countess Olenska's behaviour and etiquette prevents her from voicing her feelings. As far as manipulation goes, May is also a crafty artist (with her fake pregnancy for example), showing that decorum is but a subtle game (archery being a good metaphor)

    I haven't any Wilkie Collins yet, must get to it, thanks for the prod. Ah, George Eliot, I think 'Daniel Deronda' is my favourite, but 'Middlemarch' is majestic. I really look forward to hearing about how you got on with all your other discoveries also. Thanks for another wonderful video.

    YES I am an Edith Wharton fan, and indeed Ethan Frome is the first and only thing I have read from her. Of the rest, Second Harvest looks most interesting to me. Thank you for the video!

    I loved Shirley when I read all those years back. I should re read it as I have forgotten it. I think I much preferred Charlotte Bronte over Jane Austin. I am loving the way you deliver your books. You analyze them and bring out the message so nicely. Thanks for sharing and teaching.

    Great list! Dorian Grey has the potential to become an all time fave for me. I've read Small Things Like These, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, To Kill A Mockingbird, but there are lots I have yet to read!

    Loved The Goldfinch! 😊 Rereading East of Eden now. One of the best American classics. I do think I like The Grapes of Wrath more though. ❤

      @@CourtneyReads Yes, it is a long book and it takes a while for the stories to come together!! In my recent video about "classics for beginners", I discussed his book "Travels with Charley"- you might enjoy that one more?! I am planning to read more books by him next year so we will see how my opinions shift!

    I've seen the movie for Far From the Madding Crowd, but not read the book. Thomas Hardy's writing depresses me for some reason.

    I haven’t read Bleak House yet! My favorite is a tie between Nicholas Nickleby and A Tale of Two Cities. I hope to get to Bleak House and Little Dorrit in 2025. I’m currently about 80% through The Pickwick Papers.
