Google Should Bring Back the Pebble Smartwatch
Просмотров 129Месяц назад
Amazon's new Colorsoft e-ink reader reminded me of one of my favorite devices: the Pebble smartwatch, which sadly no longer exists because Fitbit bought them. But how cool would it be if Fitbit-owner Google updated the Pixel Watch as a new Pebble?

Is Google Holding Back Pixel Watch Updates?

The Pixel Watch was still compelling against its Watch 3 sibling until very recently. Besides a somewhat better screen and somewhat better battery life, the 3 is getting the most important thing of all: software updates.
Bose Quiet Comfort Ultras: ANC Lacks Momentum

Recently, Amazon had a deal on the Bose Quiet Comfort Ultra earbuds, so I thought I'd give them a try against my favorite Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless earbuds. The noise canceling results might surprise, even if the sound quality probably won't.

It's the best e-reader you can buy, but since the app is better you might want an Android e-ink tablet instead.

A Year With the Google Pixel Fold

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a smaller battery but the same camera is it worth upgrading, given how truly excellent the Pixel Fold is? A year after switching from Apple to Google, iOS to Android, I'm convinced this is one of the best smartphone experiences on the planet, especially now that the new release means the Fold will be less expensive on the secondary market.
Pixel Watch 3 vs Pixel Watch 1: Worth the Upgrade?

I've just received the Google Pixel Watch 3, and it's excellent just like the first generation. Does a better battery life and brighter screen justify the upgrade, even from the Pixel Watch 1? Some thoughts on the watch itself, sensors, durability, and price.

I am getting watch ultra and the pixel watch for the same price. Please suggest which to buy I am using xiaomi 14 ultra
Good review, I have the white one, such a sik watch aesthetically and functionality
I have both the Oasis and Paperwhite Signature Edition. I prefer the Paperwhite due to its form factor. I understand the idea of the Oasis and like the buttons, but i found it limits the way you can hold it comfortably. Having said that, i have moved to Kobo to get out of the Amazon system. I just don't want to support them anymore. I find them too restricting to both customers and authors. Yes, Kobo is still a thing. I believe they're number two in the ereader market behind Amazon.
Interesting. As an author myself, I feel like Amazon has been empowering, but I know others feel the same way you do.
Im gonna buy both I think 😂 watch 6 classic and pixel 3.
🖊️ ❤
You take that back! It is not better than the Oasis. 📚🤣
Hahaha I wish there were another Oasis besides a band tour.
Nice vid! Maybe the Galaxy Watch Ultra competes well with the Garmin Instinct 2x for ruggedness?? I'm looking to go to a smartwatch from the GShocks I've been wearing, but i do work outside. Pixel phones have worked well for me, but Google watches don't seem very rugged.
I'm dealing with a dilemma right now where I can get the watch ultra for cheaper than the pixel 3. I use a pixel phone, so not sure what I should do here. Both seem excellent. Though I like something a little tougher. Not because I climb mountains, I just end up doing a lot of yard work or wood working and it is nice to have something that can get bumped.
Oh they're definitely both excellent. The Ultra is a little tougher, though, just in terms of design and case materials. If you don't mind using Samsung apps on your Pixel phone I think you'll enjoy the Ultra just fine!
im returned my senh MTW4 and buy Buds3pro over it. MTW4 realy uncofrtable and heavy, they need to be insert deep into ear, thay biger even for my big ears. 1000xm5 even more biggest that senh but it feels not so sharp in the ears. All they have almost the same sound quality. But soundstage most arounding with sumsung. My main earphones is Beyer T1 (i own HD800S and Hifiman Arya in the past). So i do know what im talikg about sound and soundstage
Interesting. I think I might have kept the Buds3 Pro if I were a Samsung user.
buy a mic ffs
You can't hear that? What are you listening on, tin cans?
@willentrekin why don't you record in 360p to match with that microphone eh bud?
@@sh4unity204 What on Earth are you watching on? Are you in 1996?
weird, I only read on the paperwhite and it shows in the reading insights. It seems like a software issue with yours. Maybe a factory reset could fix it? cause yes, I would be really annoyed if that didn’t worked for me.
Does it really? That's a great suggestion -- I'll give that a try. I never even once considered that it was a glitch and not just how the Kindle worked. Thanks!
New subscriber here. I’ve had nearly all of the Kindle models since they first came out. I only read physical books when they are unavailable in the Kindle format. BTW, the Paperwhite Signature is 300 ppi. None of the Kindle screens exceed that resolution and the Scribe goes down to 150 ppi when it is using color mode. The Kindle Signature screen has better contrast than previous Kindles. The edges of letters also seem to appear a tad sharper. And bad Will for dissing the Kindle Oasis. The metal case, the page turn buttons, and the auto-rotation of pages are great features. 😊
Thanks for subscribing! And agreed -- loved the Oasis (and forgot I dissed it!).
I got it the day it came out and this little thing has done so many wonders! You’ll love it! 🤩
The 3 better screen 2X brighter smaller bezels, better battery life, 40% more accurate HR, so yes worth the upgrade from Pixel 1 anyway. Batteries don't last forever, and being 2 years old your battery wont be holding the same charge as when you got it
Good point! Especially about the battery. Still wish they would update it, though.
The only reason I prefer something like a Kindle to a phone, tablet or computer is the eink display as it is much easier on the eyes, particularly when reading at night before bed.
Totally agree on this one! Also better for holiday if you're reading on a beach (or any direct sun).
I have Senhisser MTW 3, and Bose QC 2 prefer Bose fit and sound. Bose is stepping it up. Made earbuds smaller and comfortable to wear. ANC is Amazing. I like Senhisser but they need to make them better fitting.
Great point about fit. Both sets have both ear tips and wings, and I think both have different sizes for the most people, but definitely a good fit is absolutely critical to great sound -- and sometimes it doesn't matter how many sizes of tips and wings there are if the buds themselves aren't great fit-wise.
There's no reader's insight on the Kindle, but if your devices are in sync with each other, you can always open up the Kindle app on your phone/tablet, it should keep track of your reading progress on all of your Kindles.
Yeah, I think that's been my experience, except that like I said, reading on the Paperwhite even when synced doesn't give credit to the reading streak function. But the greater point you make is even better: why ISN'T there reader's insight on the Kindle? Huge miss!
Your Paperwhite (or Scribe or base model) should be able to sync your reading progress to Reading Insights. There are two ways to do this: 1. Turn on whispersync. Make sure you're connected to the internet/wifi. This is used to sync your reading progress across multiple devices (I have a Paperwhite at home, a Scribe at work, and sometimes I use the Cloud Reader on my laptop), and in the process of doing so, it updates your Reading Insights. This is because your devices don't sync to each other, they sync to Amazon's servers, so whispersync will cause your progress to be automatically updated on Amazon's servers, meaning everything Amazon related. 2. Sync manually. Make sure you're connected to wifi, swipe down to bring up the options page, and tap the "sync" button. I'm a nerd, so I manually sync my progress before powering down just to be sure. This updates your progress in your current book on both Kindle and Audible.
Thanks for this info. I'll give this a try but I know that I have whispersync on and am usually connected to wifi. I also know that I'm synced between devices because they both track my progress between books. I.e., when I open one on my Paperwhite, it suggests skipping to the last page read on my Android. So there is some happening in the background; for some reason it's just been my experience it doesn't count toward streaks.
Everything you mentioned is what I love about Kobo. It also makes me hesitant to get the new Colorsoft reader.
Does Kobo track and all? On device? I've never used one because I've favored Kindle. And I can't imagine a reason to use the Colorsoft. Graphics novels and such would look better on an LCD/tablet.
FYI, I have a Boox Go Color and use the Kindle app. I had a 568-day streak on Reading Insights, read for an hour on Boox, it didn't get recorded and broke my streak. Not a big deal but kind of a bummer.
I 100% agree
I use a Galaxy S23 Ultra, if sound quality & sound stage is my #1 priority, would you recommend the Samsung or Sennheiser or Sony? I'm so indecisive 😭 Samsung phones doesn't have the aptX Adaptive codec so do you think Sennheiser's would still sound better?
im returned my senh MTW4 and buy Buds3pro over it. MTW4 realy uncofrtable and heavy, they need to be insert deep into ear, thay biger even for my big ears. 1000xm5 even more biggest that senh but it feels not so sharp in the ears. You will get longer support on a Kindle device than on a Boox Android reader. Has not stopped me from buying a Boox Palma, but I know it will be left in the wind faster than a pheasants fart.
Good point about support, and helluva way to phrase that!
Reading on the kindle device will track reading done for that day and books completed , as long as it has the date and time set and can eventually connect to wifi to sync it to server that you read on that date. The insights aren't viewable on the kindle but it still logs progress. You won't need to switch to your phone to complete a book or chapter. It is indeed odd that insights and achievements are not viewable on the device.
Odd -- no matter how frequently or much I read on my Kindle device, it doesn't (regardless of date and wifi) sync to my reading days. Like I said, several of my streaks have been broken because I read on my Paperwhite all day (for several hours), but never used the app. That's been the case whether on holiday or at home. Thanks for the confirmation it seems to work for some, though.
I think if you're reading on the eink device and you finish it there, it will up Insights. As long as you have the wifi on.
This hasn't been my experience except among the books read. Books you complete will show up with "Read" status and in the "What you've finished" section. But reading on a Kindle device, even when connected to wifi, won't count in the "Streak" section. I've broken multiple several-hundred-day streaks because I forgot to open the app one day but still read on my Paperwhite.
@@willentrekin That's unfortunate! I've never had an issue with that, though...the insights on my app are always current even though I almost exclusively read on the Kindle. I agree that the Kindle should have the tracking on it, though. Like, why not Amazon?
@@willentrekin that's a bummer! It's so weird that they don't have insights in the eink devices.
I think if you're reading on the eink device and you finish it there, it will up Insights. As long as you have the wifi on.
I have the bigme e reader in color and the box Palma and I really like both of them. The box Palma is great to travel with as it truly fits in your pocket
I'll check out the bigme! I've seen the Palma, but it looks phone-sized to me, and I realize e-ink is better for reading but because I have a phone already I always prefer screens at least 6.8"
I actually like the battery life on my Kindle. I do wish it had a better processor to improve the speed while browsing my library. Having color eInk is a dream but I know that's a developing technology.
I've heard the new ones might have that tech!
I'm Soo torned... I have the s24 ultra but I just want the best sounding headphone with good ANC. Which would you get?
Honestly, best sounding still goes to Momentum, which has fairly good ANC (I've used them on flights and they've been good). If you want the best ANC, probably Bose; if you want good at both but best at neither, Sony.
I think the main reason you want to read on a Kindle is for the eInk display. It's basically a papersheet, more comfortable than a phone display...
Oh absolutely. I think I covered that in the video about why I love my Paperwhite, but worth reiterating. Definitely a great screen for reading.
The insights are tracked if you read on your kindle as long as you are connected the internet. You can view later on the app if the insights are that important
@@kay2631 Are you sure? It might track books read overall, but if I read on my Paperwhite, it doesn't track to my streak (consecutive days and weeks read) in the app. I've had lots of streaks broken because I used my Paperwhite one day and forgot to read a page in app.
@@willentrekin I can confirm this. I read almost exclusively on my Paperwhite and that information does show up on insights in the app. It even works if you leave it on Airplane mode. Once you connect back to the internet, the history from previous days I was in Airplane mode all get loaded. Sometimes it takes a day or two to show up, but it always does show up.
I have the pixel 9 pro xl and Galaxy watch ultra 🔥👌🏻
I'll take it by the emojis it's a set up you like! Good to hear.
Same
Do a comparison of the apple watch 10 vs pixel watch 3 vs galaxy watch 7
Interesting idea! I don't really use Apple any more, though, and it would have to be a theoretical comparison without access to the hardware. I'll consider!
The new pixel watch 3 is verry interesting, but for now, i prefer my galaxy watch ultra, for the hardware and the rugged design.
Dude, you had the titanium silver.
Dude yeah. Weird to name it two entirely chemically different metals but sure. It's all marketing anyway!
Hahaha perfectly put @willentrekin
7:05 That's an interesting approach! Would love to see more brands try that out too. Sony's Find Your EQ feature is currently lacking in my opinion.
Great info. I switched to Samsung everything. I've been using the Earfun Airpro 3's which sound great & last for 7+ hours. ANC is not so great but these are better than my Nothing Ear Buds. I may grab a pair for $130 on sale now
Oh if you've switched to Samsung everything I think you'll LOVE them! Enjoy.
They are freaking AMAZING for calls !! You've missed something somehow
Hey thanks for the addition! Honestly, I don't really ever make calls so that didn't cross my radar. Good to know!
That's the titanium silver you have
Yep. Which is grey. Thanks for noting though!
Another beautifully written piece.
I have the galaxy watch ultra and a watch 7 44mm. I use the ultra for everything in the day. Sport, steps and heart beat and all smart features. I use the 7 44mm for sleep tracking.
Makes a lot of sense, given the size! Still, seems like quite a compromise to have to switch between wearing two devices. Glad it works for you though!
The nothing ear 2024 for 150 are very good too. Curious if you’ve tried those or the jabra elite 10 gen 2?
Thanks for the comment! I've heard great things about both but haven't. I like the Senns enough I skipped the Nothings, and while I've heard the Jabras have a great soundstage, the fact that they're leaving headphones made me reluctant to try them. I had a pair of their flagships a few generations ago, but I've found the Senns (and M&D, and others) better.
Good review!
I am using my Garmin Forerunner 265 which can last up to 9-12 days battery life. But I am so tempted to get the Watch Ultra (that exact same color as yours). I like how it looks and since my main phone is an S24 Ultra. I will think about it. 😄
I haven't used Garmin in years, but you definitely can't go wrong using Samsung devices together!
Is spacial audio with head tracking just a gimmick or do they actually sound good?
Good question! I've always found it rather gimmicky. I think it's much better to have the soundstage than spatial audio. Usually spatial audio requires specialized hardware or software, too.
Dude, they're all titanium
Thanks for that! I meant colour, but then realized it's also the titanium orange and titanium white. I'll clarify when I do a full review!
@xenowriter Oh, sorry for the confusion. I can see how that would make no sense whatsoever to anyone who didn't know that my first book was a self-titled debut collection of short stories, essays, and poetry. Thanks for the feedback. Helps me make future teasers more clear. Given it sounds like you didn't know I even had a collection, I'll note you can get the whole thing totally free in any format you want at Smashwords. Hope you enjoy it if you check it out.
