This is thought to be about the absorption of the hitherto separate Burgh of Leith into Edinburgh in 1920, and thus the merger of their police forces. It was much opposed and resented at the time, and Leith still has a distinct feeling of separate identity from Edinburgh. Recent gentrification has served to reduce that somewhat. The incomers of gentrification have little or no sense of place or psychogeography.

Have you tried "unique new york" or "red leather yellow leather" ?

Hi. And thanks for your question. You can find "Unique New York at ruclips.net/video/Z5QCUizmzzQ/видео.html . And I was convinced that I had recorded red leather yellow leather ages ago, but having now searched, I cannot find it. So it will certainly be added in the future. Similar ones are "Lesser leather never weathered wetter weather better" (ruclips.net/video/WB0SNSsoErk/видео.html); and "Lump of red leather. A red leather lump" (ruclips.net/user/shortsHMfPExlvWCU). You can find a full list here: www.youtube.com/@HB-TTs/playlists. Enjoy! (And please feel free to send me any further suggestions!)

I have a question for you sir, I'm a english learner. Tongue Twisters help to have a good accent? How much time i need to spend a day to practice? How much videos i need to try per day in your opinion? And also, I need to translate the words which I don't understand before try to repeat?

Hi and thanks for getting in touch. Practising TTs can help in getting your mouth around unfamiliar patterns. All languages use patterns that can cause difficulties for someone native to another country. For instance, French people have difficulty saying 'the' because they say instead 'zhe'. It's what comes naturally to them. How much you practise daily is up to you. I have uploaded overe 400 to date and a new one goes up every day. Try saying them more than once, rather than just as a one-off. With regards to translating them first I tend to use Google Translate a lot so I can understand the meaning, because that way will help in getting the stresses correct. Best of luck with your English pronunciations!

Haha. Not easy is it. Try repeating it slowly at first and then speed up ever so slightly each time around. That's the way I manage some of the more difficult ones. Let me know if this works for you :)

My second tongue twister for the day! Thank you for recording them. Is it true that tongue twisters improve pronunciations?

    • @HB-TTs

TTs are very useful for making the mouth move to the specific sounds. In that way they improve pronunciation. For example English people have difficulty saying French words because the sounds are unfamiliar to them. In the same way French people have difficulty in English pronunciation for the same reason. For example, French people often say "ze" instead of "the". TTs can help them get around this problem. When I used to work in China I'd always get my Chinese pupils to try out some TTs at the start of a lesson to get them used to the correct pronunciation.

Learning English and was looking through these tongue twisters. Thank you so much! By the way did you really say that fast or speed the audio?

Thank you for your kind comments. Let me know if there is a specific TT you'd like me to record. And no, I don't speed up the recordings. The downside is that sometimes people tell me I speak too fast :)
