Cigar notes are a myth. They are an American invention to give uninteresting people something to talk about. Real cigar smokers know this, we just light up and smoke then enjoy the flavour of burning tobacco. You should try it son.

Well said. And spoken like a true cigar aficionado. I’ve had two Cuban cigars in my life (Hoyo De Monterrey and Montecristo) and they were good, but not the best I’ve ever smoked. Halfwheel regularly reviews Cubans cigars and so do other cigar outlets and some do very well, and others are mediocre. There is no correlation I have seen where Cuban cigars are objectively better than new world cigars based on the reviews by trusted sources who review cigars, granted that’s one person’s opinion with a palate that’s very likely different from yours. My problem with Cuban cigars are the smokers, some act like they have a more refined palate than everyone else, and preach the “superiority of Cuban tobacco” (something only the Cuban cigar industry says) and lose their minds when Cuban cigars score lower than non-Cuban cigars / new world cigars. Heck on Halfwheel one scored a 67, and a few people acted offended and demanded Halfwheel change their scoring and insisted they had a bias against Cuban cigars. It was very cringe and pathetic. All in all, quality is dropping and the prices are going up. So my answer would simply be: “no”, Cuban cigars are not objectively the best in the world. The best cigar is the one you enjoy the most, any real cigar smoker will tell you the same thing. Cheers brotha!

I suppose if you know you have the real deal order online from somewhere like Switzerland and see if customs seizes them or not. US customs should be trained to know if a Cuban cigar is real or not right? Although I’ve also heard stories of US Customs sometimes not seizing Cuban cigars especially if it’s a very low amount they tend to not care and they end up in the USA. I don’t think US Customs would seize and confiscate fake Cuban cigars would they?

I truly appreciate the topic and the entirety of the interview. The points touched on spirituality and respect are the main reasons why I got into the use of cigars, by extension of tobacco. As a child, I grew up to the essences of my grandfather sit in the shade of his favorite spot in the yard sipping coffee with his tobacco pipe in hand…. As an adult working in the project management department. I have some tough days that the only way to get relax is the ritual of the cigar. It’s deeper than we think, it’s a deep spiritual experience of a journey from lit to offering the end to the ancestors and local land spirits. Thank you 😊

All fair points but you did leave the most important thing out. A humidor needs a good seal. The test is you open the humidor lid and let it fall shut. If it doesn’t immediately slam shut then it has a good seal. If it makes a loud bang. Wood hitting wood, the seal is garbage and Ive seen beautiful 200 hundred dollar humidors with garbage seals. Another test is put a small flash light in the humidor, turn all the lights off in the room and make sure it’s near dark. If you see any light shining through the seal or anywhere else? Garbage humidor. All that means is you have a 200 dollar wood box that will not keep humidity. You can get a good plain jane humidor for around 80 to 100 bucks. Even 50 to 60 will do. As long as you aren’t looking for a 100 count or more

So here's the deal. A Humidor is a just a box that's tight enough to maintain a consistent humidity, has a moisture delivery system that allows you to increase humidity as needed, and has a device to read the relative humidity. The Amazon humidors do just that. The veneers are real wood of varying thickness. Are they as sturdy and as long lasting as a real solid wood humidor? No! But they're a good option to store and preserve your cigars in a nice looking box until you can afford something of higher quality! Just know what you're getting into and invest in a higher quality / more accurate digital hygrometer to put in it that you can use in your tupperware or high dollar humidor as well.

Its definitely an easy thing to forget either on a new cutter being excited or because, as you said, the manufacturer says NO LUBE so newer people will assume they arrive clean. On your #1 cutter you just kind of forget that oil does build up over time and can cause a bit of a bitter first draw.

@@MaduroAficionado A small technicality but never the less relevant, it would appear that you can (as a US citizen) purchase Cuban cigars outside of Cuba e.g. Canada or the UK and bring them into the US. There is a maximum amount of (I think) 50 you can bring on your person. I'm not sure what the legal amount is if you order them online. I know that many US citizens come to the UK and bring back Cubans with them when they return.

I have bought a Humidor from Amazon that serves its purpose but it wasn't cheap either. $699.99 for a New Air x Boveda and it's holding up well. No complaints here, yet. I dunno, I’ve had a glass top one for 2 years. Seasoned for 2 weeks with a 84% bag then 69% always full of sticks holds humidity perfectly. The gauge that comes with it shows humidity at 60% but my digital one shows dead on 69%. Personally I’d rather spend my money on more cigars than an expensive humidor at the moment. If I ever had a large collection I’d invest in one but I only tend to keep 20-25 at a time and re stock soon as down to ten
