UNITRA WSH-805 - could this be your last stereo amplifier? I believe so!
UNITRA is an iconic Polish audio brand revived recently by one of the founders of CD Project Red - a world famous game dev from Poland.
They took the old brand's spirit, design and some of its engineers, and reimagined its products elevating the quality to the highest level.
WSH-805 is their flagship dual-mono amplifier that can operate in both class A and class A/B modes. The technology employed allows it to achieve extremely high levels of sound signal fidelity.
I only had a few days to play with it, but I was amazed by both the performance and the design, as well as the build quality. This could easily be my end game stereo amplifier. But it costs $5,000...

Thank a lot for this review. We love to hear that our amplifier made a big impression on you. We tried to make this equipment the quintessence of Polish engineering thought, but also to make the audiophile happy with the listening qualities and design.
@unitrapoland, thanks for your comment! I keep my fingers crossed for your success :)
Between Accuphase, Luxman or Unitra I'm choosing Unitra :) phenomenal device :) Best regards from Poland :)
Looks like a Yamaha.
@@Niels133 nope. Yamaha looks like Unitra :)
Thank you for this... Looks wonderful.. Happy Holidays for YOU
Same to you!
Are these good at low level listening? Or do you feel the need to turn up the volume?
I’m a quiet listener myself and hardly ever go avove 75 dB, usually it’s 65-70. And these performed well for me in this range, even in a large room (40m2).
Koniecznie @stjernholmreviews
I'm scratching my head trying to figure out if the cyberpunk statue is assembled incorrectly on purpose or by mistake. :)
Is it really? :)
This Amplifier is superb!!! Well build and very natural, analog sound.
100% agree!
Greetings from Serbia. I remember that in former socialist Yugoslavia there were some Unitra products imported, mostly cassette decks. I had one of them branded RIZ (Radio industria Zagreb) but it was Unitra rebranded as RIZ. I used it for years. Nice amplifier.
In Poland German Grundigs were popular.
Lotta hype.
I think in this case the hype is substantiated ;)
Poland used to make lovely Christmas tree bulb decorations. They were available in the US for years. Vintage.
We still make them!
Americans are not purchasing stuff from Poland.
They do but sometimes they don’t even realize it’s from Poland ;) I own a software company and most of our users are from the US.
I wonder how it compares to a Yamaha or a NAD 3050
@@BoRerunn or how it would compare to my PioneerSX1250
I had the Unitra Finezia cassette tape. Nice surprise to see this brand from our childhood is reborn again.
Just show something from the inside of the amplifier, otherwise its just blablabla...
I wish, but I was asked by the manufacturer not to dismantle the unit as I received a brand new one for testing. You can visit their website though or their facebook page where they show some photos of the insides - facebook.com/photo/?fbid=567676105877467&set=pb.100079052474600.-2207520000
Never heard of the brand Unitra. Though it has nice features (besides great appearance), it must be a tough competition in the 5K range (Yamaha A-Sxx series for example). Fully agree on what you said about rotating (new) gear. Maybe when we settle down one day that will stop :) Thanks for the heads-up!
I'd compare this amp to the likes of Luxman or Accuphase given its quality. The fact that it's entirely build in Europe most probably adds to the cost as well. As for rotating gear, I'm afraid it's part of the hobby and would only stop if we run out of money, which I hope won't happen. So, keep'em comming!
@@NormcoreGreg nice amp, how much they go for ?
@@rompstar it's $5000.
@ yikes pricy, cheers!
Hi , I have one question , what are the 4 switches under the device? Do they have to face the same direction? Thanks for the video..
@didgeteria9068, the switches below are for switching between a moving magnet (MM) or moving coil (MC) cartridge in your turntable. Most cartridges are MMs. All switches should face the same direction as described. Hope this helps.
There's a lot of china bashing on these audio forums. Guys lets admit that china is an advanced nation in technology, they also make stuff for the cost consious market too, this doesnt mean everything out of china has to be ridiculed on. I see a channel where the person just modifies every amp from china as if it would never sound acceptable without tinkering. Its just a process of making content for their channel and nothing else.
My only problem with China is that they make and sell a lot of knock offs, which is unfair to those who took time and money to design the original stuff. Plus there's the political issue, but I don't want to dive into this rabbit hole ;)
Thanks Normcore Greg for this review. I subscribed ☺ I don't know much about stereo audio equipment; can anyone answer this (rather simple) question?: I was given an older stereo Power Amplifier - ADCOM GFA-555II and a pair of PSB Stratus Gold tower speakers (from my friend, before he passed). Apparently, I need a stereo preamplifier to make this work. Until I can afford a good preamp, can I pair this PJ MIAOLAI SA-1000 with the ADCOM power amp, without causing an electrical catastrophe, or my house burning down? If not, then can you suggest some preamps that I should be looking at? Thanks in advance for your advice.
You've got yourself a great set of gear. The amp you have requires something to control volume and potentially connect multiple sources, i.e. a preamp. The Miaolai will work just fine. However, it doesn't have a remote control, which sometimes might be annoying ;-)
Thank you for taking the time and effort to reply@@NormcoreGreg. I will order one of these and try it out. My amp looks huge next to a preamp that is this small. I'll report back here about how it performs and sounds.
The vast majority of such sites utterly depend upon sensationalism to ‘grow their followers’, very much like a religion. They abuse language to impress audiences with meaningless words like ‘warmth’, and avoid or even diss measurements that actually reveal truth. Very few of them acknowledge basic audio research that dispels audiophile mythology, choosing instead to propagate the nonsense instead. If a site is wholly subjective, then it is wholly deceptive, and it is intentional. Audio Science Review and Erin’s audio are examples of good reviewers that relate quality sound to measurements that prove it. Anything from PS Audio is extremely bad, as are most. You are better off just ignoring online reviewers.
@@plcamp1 Thanks for your comment Peter. In my opinion this hobby, like any other, is totally based on subjective feelings and preferences. And good measurements are not the only element that constitutes a „good” audio component for someone. It’s like with cars - performance is not the only factor and in fact it only matters on a race track, which 99% of drivers will never visit. By the same token, what’s the use of perfectly measuring audio gear, when you put it in your untreated living room and turn of while having dinner with your kids or partying with your friends?
Did you hear any hum or noise when listening through line out?
None whatsoever.
@@NormcoreGreg any chance you could take pictures of it inside?
Hi. Please check out the nobsound a3 amplifier, if you are interested on an hybrid tube class a b amp. It's a very unique and good sounding item for a reasonable price.
Hey, I missed this but I appreciate the kind words!
Hey Erin! Thrilled to see you here :)
you are not even in the same league as most of these fellows... hows that for lack of clarity. 😅
@ speaking of clarity, can you clarify who are you referring to?
@@NormcoreGreg I was referring to Erin . I kid him when I can. I think he’s an amazing reviewer.
Hey, nice review. Any idea on schematics ? What are these 4 tubes doing up there. Read that these are for pre-amp stage, and then signal further gets amplified by transistors ?
I don’tvhave the schematics, but yes - this is seemingly a „proper tube build” with tubes acting as preamp in aclass AB amp and not just a buffer for a class D amp.
@NormcoreGreg, yees, seems so, interesting how big is the second harmonic on this one. i ordered one to try in my bedroom set up, does not need to be super loud, small 8 ohm Radiotehnika Rigonda speakers will definitely happy with it.
@ just received it and plugged to my main set up🤪 Wharfedale Linton 85th Anniversary and Dacmagic 200m and this blackbox in between. Sounds actually quite nice. No power issues, 25W per channel is enough, warm, detailed. Obviously not the same as multi$k amps, but hey for 180 USD it sounds on par with 1,5k range amplifiers. Moving it to bedroom set up with the turntable. Decent gear for its cost!
@ glad you like it.
Are both amp have the same opamp installed on their system?
I tested them with stock opamps.
Unfortunately, Cheap audio man and Old Guy Hifi proved recently that audio channels can not be trusted which is sad...
@@trekkis how so?
They both are trying to simply sell (like worst type of salesmans) worthless device - cheap DDC for wiim ultra used with wiim usb out. Based on assumption that wiim ultra has bad jitter, which is not true on many different levels -it's contradictory with real measurements which are clearly indicating that wiims jitter is on very good level - best in whole wiims family, on the same level as other devices similar type. Also there is no any electrical noise on wiims Outputs (i checked myself). They did not provide any different measurements, any data on their part. Any confirmation, any proof absolute nothing, only pure assumption "trust me bro" which assumption is technically near impossible. They are stating that audible difference is huge - not possible in case of jitter in modern devices, not possible in case of very cheap DDC with low quality power. Even real DDC worth a lot, lot of money (like Denafrips Iris) , are providing very subtle effect. Not anything huge. They are stating that cheap one is doing miracles. Technically simply impossible. They are simply using lack of their vievers experience. And usb out out is not compatible with lfe. They are ignoring this fact, not informing about this their viewers. Lfe is far, far, far more important, besides, DDC in practice could work as in fact reclocker with spdif connections, not with usb. Usb is asynchronous type of connection. Do not need reclocking. Simply do not need any DDC. This device is on many levels pure vodoo, and they both are selling voodoo harmfull for their viewers, without any real explanation, measurements, proof, absolute nothing. Only "trust me what I'm hearing". I do not trust them any more in any way. I do not trust basically any yt audio channel after seeing something like this. They ears, any reviews, now are now worth nothing. This type of adverts should NEVER be created without clear measuremets charts. They both presented absolute worst face of yt. Simply advert to sell worthless voodoo device. Without any solid ground. Without any real data. And this is not first time. Lack of real knowledge and competency could be observed also in the past not one time. What is in fact important for audio devices - it is power quality. I did not seen videos from their side regarding for example good power supplies like Ifi devices. This could be real added value. Easy to measure and proof. For this reason, channels with real value for me from now on can be maily iiwi or British audiophile. And on some way Darko - thanks to overall form.
I’ve unsubscribed from most audiophile channels because the balance between informed, educated discussions and placebo-driven mysticism has tipped too far in the wrong direction. However, I still follow Pearl Acoustics for his genuine passion for music and Darko Audio for his grounded, pragmatic approach. Both bring a refreshing perspective to the audiophile community, focusing on what truly matters rather than getting lost in unnecessary unscientific hype.
Thanks for the shout out!

hi-fi paid shills
There's a few shills here, some of these "reviewers" (salesmen) only do positive reviews (sales pitches) avoid them. There's one particular person on this list who has another channel where he claims he's communicating with the DEAD via his handheld radio. (Im not making this up) I won't say who it is but he has 3 large windows in his listening room. Personally i can't trust a person who does this.
I know the other Steve Huff's channel ;-) In fact, I mention it in this video.
@NormcoreGreg Oh is that his name? 😉

I didn't know Melinda's channel, but now I do thanks to you :) I've added her to the "appendix" in the pinned comment above. Thanks for your input!
0 Fidelity is a channel you omitted. I have much respect for his basic and no nonsense format and his opinions. He has been rather quiet of late. The British audiophile is another no nonsense channel I have much respect for. Steve G. I don’t question his experience or knowledge. But I find his broadcasts hard going. It seems to me he has a lot to say about very little. John Darko. Not my preferred choice of reviewer. He tends to bulk his broadcasts out with frequent musical interludes and images of plugs and cables being connected and disconnected. My time is limited, I prefer the direct approach. Amir, at Audio Science Review is another channel you omitted. We need more people like him to help us audiophiles keep our feet firmly on the ground and sort the shit from the shine. As for Jay. I find his esoteric attitude very hard to swallow. He claims to be an audio engineer and trained in neuroscience. That’s not reflected in his broadcasts! He tends to use his time spent in high end retail as validation of the authenticity of his opinions. I worked for 18 years in the financial services sector. That doesn’t make me an expert on money, far from it. I used to hold in high esteem the advice and opinions of the team at Audioholics. But since they’ve started collaborating with Jay, my trust in their judgement is impaired. Paul at PS audio. What’s not to like about the chap? I’m sure everything he says and does is genuinely said and done with the best intent. Even though sometimes he holds firm opinions which aren’t scientifically or factually based. Erin, of Erin’s Audio Corner. A likeable character providing a valuable service. I could go on. There are many others, including:- Ron at New Record Day, Danny at GR Research, Adrian at Audio Excellence, Hunter Gray, Etc. Etc. As for female audiophile RUclipsrs, Andrew Robinson’s channel features Christie. There is another channel presented by a female, Rita I think, but don’t quote me on that.
Thanks for your elaborate comment Howard. I agree with most of what you said :) However, Zero Fidelity channel is discontinued I'm afraid. The guy hasn't posted any new content for a year. I hope he's doing fine and he just got bored with it.
Ron will happily admit that his shed is not 'perfect' - has simply put a lot of time, money and effort into addressing the realities we all face with acoustics.
If I were him I would never admit it is perfect since I wouldn't be able to justify to my wife that I have to keep on investing and working on it ;-)
@@NormcoreGreg I doubt that Eon will ever stop trying to find that 'absolute sound'.
