Battle for Baqubah O.I.F. 06-08 10 Year Reunion

The first 10 days of May was brutal. On the 6th Attack company hit the massive deep buried (6 KIA + the Russian reporter), 7th CPT. Jensen was WIA (Ultimately KIA), the 8th Doc Nguyen was KIA, 9th SGT Vaughn was KIA, then a week or so later your boys were KIA by a massive deep buried on their Bradley. I had only met Doc Nguyen the day before when he had sprung into action when CPT. Jensen was shot, he was the one that worked on him as we loaded him into the Bradley and sped to FOB Gabe, and got him on the medevac.

As a proud member of 5-20 it was pretty disappointing to hear that’s what CSM Felt thought of us. We definitely came in with some arrogance and frustration as we had spent previous months clearing other units A/O’s while they stood by and watched. We had also come through that relatively untouched. We had a sense of invincibility about us. Until we actually went into the city of Baqubah. We were humbled quickly. A place that was absolutely incomparable to any other place in Iraq at that time. For him to kind of take a shot at us but then not recognize the amount of good men we had KIA and WIA there fighting side by side with you boys is really disappointing. Outside of my unit there is no other unit I respect more in the Army than 1-12. Nothing but love and respect to you 1SG Colella and the tough sob’s that served under you. Especially those that we had the honor of serving with at COP Adam.
@@donroberts2115 nothing but absolute respect for 5-20, you guys were out saving grace for sure. I look forward to having more 5-20 guys participate in the debrief, and I had a great debrief with Attack 26 and should have it posted in a few weeks.

Toughest day of my life thus far. I know that life has given the worst. It can only get better from there.
I remember being doped up on morphine in the hospital at Balad when COL Sutherland and CSM Felt came and gave me my Purple Heart. I couldn’t fully appreciate it at the time, but I’m very thankful they came to my bedside and kept it very low key.
I am honored to know Don Felt. He’s not only a true American Patriot but a fine human being.
