    Today I replaced the heater core on my 2007 Equinox. I follow your video all the way up to the removal of the brake pedal bracket. I didn't do that. Instead, I took the nut off of the brake pedal that connects to the master plunger and took all the nuts and bolt off the bracket. It alowed me to move the brake pedle out of the way and gave me wiggle room to replace the core.I cut the tube's 3 inches from the core surface. It went smoothly but was a 4 hour job! Thanks for the post!!!!

    I have a sonic that wont shut off till you cycle the key 7 times or so. Not every time tho

    I would suspect the fuel cut off activated due to the accident. Just a hunch.

    I love that you guys kept all the yelling and screaming in and didn't cut that part out. That was my favorite part of this whole video was you laying in your back under there just grunting and yelling 😂

    I should have removed that entire brake pedal bracket like you did, hopefully I didn't bang up the heater core too much. You didn't have to flare or put a bead on the pipe? Just 3/4" hose to connect the pipes and that's it? You used a whole mess of clamps but hey, if it doesn't leak it doesn't leak. I should have watched your video all the way through before doing this.

    Any chance you guys can describe how you got that brake pedal bracket out? I have an 06, too, but can not seem to get it out. I have the five nuts off and all the other bits. Pushed the bolts into the firewall but I still have no visible way to get the bracket out of there

      Down below someone answered this question, crack a bleeder open, and push the brake pedal all the way down. Another approach, is bend the metal tabs from the dash that are holding it in place with a pry bar, then when you put it back in, bash them back into place with a hammer.

      ⁠so which method did you use? I’ve gotten in there with pry bars but not been able to bend the flanges. I thought there might be a more elegant solution.

      @@tsurukame I did the bend it with a prybar method, I did not try the bleed the brake, there was another reply where it was claimed you could pull both pins, and lift the pedal straight up, I didn't see any way of removing the pivot pin. It was my nephews car, and I have slept a few nights since working on it, but I know for sure I bent the flanges out of the way. You have to push the pedal, so that the studs from the master cylinder move out I think to get under that flange with the prybar, and bend it just enough to get the assembly past. THey edited out a lot of my struggle under there, LOL. My daughter, and dad did most of the video editning, and commentary, I did most of the grunt work.

    I have a 2006, unfortunately 05-06 have have the brake bracket that has a bracket that hangs down (in the way of the heater core) that the sensors are attached to. How did you get the brake bracket off with the steering column bracket on top of it? i am stuck here!

    How did you pull the gas and brake bracket ...having trouble with getting mine out

      Did you ever get that bracket out? If so, how? If not, what did you do? I’m currently stuck - can’t get the bracket off and on an 06 it is in the way. Bent the old one getting it out like these guys so don’t want to risk bending the new one.

    Dont have to take brake out. Don't need to bleed break. Dont need to loosen bracket. Disengage brake pedal from the brake pedal position sensor fork. Push the physical brake pedal to the left and push gently right on the plastic fork in order to clear the sensor. Then same thing for the brake rod. Push right on the rod and left on brake pedal to clear and bam. Push brake pedal all the way up to steering wheel. Super easy and accessible.

    And the people that design these cars have the audacity to call themselves "Engineers" There should be laws about making a service item like a heater core so difficult to remove. Some vehicles its as simple as removing the glove box and pulling it through there. I used to be a Chevy guy, I think all North American cars are junk now. Good video for doing the job without removing the entire dash.

    If only lost heat and no leaks, back flush core first, if any crud comes out, hook back up and test for heat.. mine had crud in it, even after a core swap in this manner. add filter to top hose or heater hoses.. loosening brake booster studs and pressing on pedal helps clear, and testing after hoses in place, plug in gas pedal and bring up to temp before covering back up so not doing this twice.. plus clamps may tighten further..

      if you do not pull brake pedal out and just loosen studs so can press pedal in and skirt past , you will have to cut core close like your first cut.

      I was able to put cover back on without cutting any cover, it may be away about 1/4" if clamps are not positioned correctly, but no need to cut on the 2 I have done..

      Did you pull seat out? it sure is hard even with seat all the way back,,, I was afraid bolts would snap so twisted up my back hanging over door jam area..

    Replaced heater core in my 07 equinox but now it won't start ..all lights appear on dash everything else works but nothing when I turn the key.

    Extremely Helpful Tips: Taking off the brake is not needed (removing accelerator is necessary) Before cutting out the old core, lift the car and open up driver side brake bleeder and depress brake peddle. (be sure to have someone pour brake fluid or use a kit) While peddle is depressed, make a mark on the pipes where to cut in relation to the brake peddle, cut and then pull out heater core. You should have about 4-5" pipe left on the heater core. Then cut the pipes on the new core to the exact length where you cut. Apply gasket sealant for water pumps (only use sealant made for water pumps). Apply it onto the pipes and pipes to the new core and slide hoses and clamp it and then install the core. (You'll have to depress the brake peddle to install new heater core). This will save you at least an hour of labor.

      Forgot to mention, don't be in a hurry doing this job. The physical labor can be done under 2 hours but be sure the pipes are dry before using gasket maker and inserting hose. After taking out the old heater core it may be best to blow some air into the hoses to get all of the coolant out and let it dry over night before following above steps. You will also want the gasket sealant to cure 24 hours before adding coolant.

      How exactly did you use a pry bar? I am stuck and unable to get the bracket off. I have the five nuts off, brake booster shoved into firewall and all other switches off, but still can only wiggle a little bit each way - not enough to give adequate clearance

      LOL, yeah my daughter caught me in mid "Donald duck" impersonation with that prybar. Got it out though! Someone more intelligent, and gentle suggested loosening a bleeder, so you can press the pedal all the way down.

      @@tsurukame I did the Bend the snot outta the bracket that was in the way with a crowbar method, but someone else gave a better suggestion, opening a bleeder, so you can depress the brake pedal all the way to the floor.

    If you watched my video on doing this I really didn't show anything about the tubes and cutting them but you don't have to double clamp it if you use a hose that is a little too tight to fit you put dishwashing liquid on the inside of the hose and on the outside of the tubes when it goes together you only need one clamp on each end and dishwashing liquid tends to turn into glue when it starts to dry it will never leak
