Gen 1 Color Tv-Game financial winner Telstar Arcade was the best system in my opinion Coleco was the only real competitor for Nintendo then. Gen 2 Atari's 2600 is the winner But Mattel's Intellivision gave it a good run Gen 3 Clear winner was the NES Atari and Sega did not come close Gen 4 SNES is the winner But Sega gave it a good challenge Gen 5 Playstation 1 is the winner But the 64 had decent games Gen 6 Playstation 2 no debate But Xbox and Nintendo still did well Gen 7 Playstation 3 is the winner in the long run because Sony kept updating and patching it. Switch is easily an eighth gen console tbh. It easily wins out of Gen 8. Gen 9 however is unclear as it is still going on, plus Nintendo has yet to release a ninth gen console.

Winners from fifth generation onwards, the way I see it (I won't comment on the earlier ones since I wasn't around yet): 5th: PlayStation wins for sure 6th: PS2 obviously 7th: Wii 8th: PS4 9th: Switch. I think it's fair to call it ninth generation since the 8th already had the Wii U and the Switch is still relevant now with new games being released for it.
