First Class Miners Campout at Humbug Mountain Gold Claim on 2-19-2022
see you soon.
I've driven past this mine on a few occasions. It's a tough place to get to.
They do not want protection, they want to lock up and restrict use of public land.
That's a bad ass guitar & vocals
I live not too far from there. I heard about it, but didn't know where it was. Thanks for posting.
I guess this freedom lover didn't like the machine gun wielding soldiers manning the guard posts or the young recruits leering at their daughters and wives.
Good times! I miss hanging out with First Class Miners, especially the pot luck.
excellent!
Doesn't show up on any maps with that name, so that's probably a good reason it's still not destroyed
I wonder why the Teamsters were giving the UFW a tough time and counter protesting their strike
There's people inside the pipes
So cool!!!
He was my uncle, and his name was Bob Carr. Not Bob Clark. No offence.
What’s the history behind that mine? Why did they close it?
I know this video is hella old. I hope by now you've grown as an artist and are not spreading false information any more.
This land was sold back to the natives and they took em out.
Dang and I parked in the same spot multiple times I guess I got lucky
There's actually multiple mine shafts along the base of that Hill and a big one to the west of where u were at past the no trespassing signs
Is this in yreka California
As a kid I remember our whole family worked at Rocketdyne. I had no idea really what what was done there but it was a part of who we were.
Awesome video John. We had a great time as always. Thanks Steve!!
I thought gas Motors weren't allowed in Holcomb Valley?
WE JUST CAME BACK FROM THAT CABIN IN BARSTOW IT WAS AWESOME

Fun times! Great job on the video John.
Hi Jon, I'm trying to reach you regarding the Japanese Camp - do you have an email address or other preferred method of contact?
Hi Jon - great slideshow. I would love to speak with you about this camp - do you have an email address I could reach you at? Great music choice btw.
I'd like to know what kind of man would have the nerve to do this. It must have been very scary for him. Did the neighbors ever talk about this? Has anyone been interviewed about this?
Where were you exactly?
Hi Jon, I’ve heard stories of Jim Straight whipping up and down Gold Crown road back in the day in his low slung 4 door sedan, how far up from the paved highway do you think a modern 4 door sedan like a Honda Accord or Hyundai Sonata could get up Gold Crown Road before getting stuck? Thanks .. and nice coin finds 👍 Chris
There is a point where Gold Crown Rd drops down into a wash area near the Virginia Dale Mine that is very solf. A lot depends also on the condition of the road which can get very bad after a big rain. Personally I would never take a normal car on this road. You need a 4x4 or at least a truck with high clearance.
@@Yiroirp Yeah I was wondering about that after reading about Jim Straight and his car on that road, it’s been 20+ years since I drove on Gold Crown road with my lifted Jeep Cherokee, and what I remember was just massive wash board conditions not very far up after leaving the highway, It would have been very sketchy in a car from what I remember. I still have that same Jeep but it’s been in my garage in storage for the past 8 years, I’m wanting to take up my old hobby of nugget shooting again .. but not sure I really want to spend the money to get the Jeep running again .. and spend the gas money since it guzzles a lot on its big tires .. until I’m sure I can physically and mentally still handle nugget shooting, so I’m researching areas I may be able to get my wife’s Hyundai car to. So far it looks like I could get to the GPAA/LDMA Dusenberg, Placer Pete Coolgardie, and Cajon Crystal claims in the car, but I really liked the 29 palms area back in the day, any suggestions? I’m assuming all the FCM claims need high clearance at the least? I just renewed my old GPAA membership .. but am also hoping to join another So.Cal. club or two that has some nice people and accessible claims for my car. Thanks Jon
Those 2 dimes were incredible finds out there in that expanse.

So I’m assuming this mine was sealed up with bat bars???
No. It is outside the JTNP
@@Yiroirp thanks for the speedy reply
this once was a private cave...
Looks like fun mining for gold 😃
What the heck? was the nugget found at Upper lincoln in Dale???
I was one of the ones that was stabbed as well as my good friend who almost died back in I think 98 or 99 🤪 So many memories there and stoked Dave Ruel and the boys dig it out 🙌🏽
Hello John, I have been searching for this cave for couple years now and been going all around hidden valley and barker dam area. I have visited several of the other pictograph locations around the wonderland of rocks and barker dam area. If you could reply to me privately and give me any information on where I should be looking for this.. It would be much appreciated!
It took a lot of effort for us to locate it also. The satisfaction came from putting together clues from the internet and using Jim Mattern's book (that is the clue). Other than that I have sworn myself to secrecy on this location. I have been contacted twice from the NPS about the need to keep this under wraps.
@@Yiroirp I would also ask for coordinates as I've done other hidden caves in JT but I can understand and respect your stance on keeping the secret, a secret. Can't have those influencers destroy the place
Yes. Same here. I have done it for various locations and have all of the Death Valley jim books. I just would like any other leads as every internet blog I’ve seen does not even point you to a direction/location/area/what to look for other than that it’s in a place that is well trafficked. I haven’t been able to locate it for several month with those clues and might be all around west joshua tree with no sign of finding it. I know a lot of this is word of mouth. Please message me privately and then I can potentially help you out as well if there are other places you wanted to see. Thanks
I think I would have found the cave faster without the "Help" of Jim Mattern's book. That book and the way I read it lead me astray. That said, his book was the inspiration for us to locate the cave. I did visit a vast number of rock climbing web pages with a variety of results.
Yes, I have still not been able to locate it despite all the trips out there. I have even discussed with park rangers and found that they didn’t even know some of the locations I already visited. Hope someone can at least point to a general location to search. I have info on other pictograph sites.
LOOKS like everyone scored!!!
