Is Indiana Dunes worth a visit? And where to go instead!
Should you go to Indiana Dunes? What if you just went to Warren Dunes State Park in Michigan, instead? We loved Warren Dunes so much, we don’t think you need to leave it just to see the National Park unless you’re just needing to check it off your list. This week, we’re camping and hanging out state park style. We play on the beach on Lake Michigan (again), check out the Century of Progress Homes in the National Park, and climb and play on dunes that are steps away from our campsite. It was a great week and we highly recommend this state park.

Glad you enjoyed Mackinac Island. The whole Tom Sawyer painting the fence thing was funny. I always kind of on the fence (no pun intended) recommending Mackinac Island to out of staters, especially if they don't have children and are "travelers" not "tourists". So many Michiganders including myself have fond memories of going their as children and getting a chance to have some independence because parents felt it is safe and contained and they weren't worried about cars. It's expensive and during the summer is touristy, so I feel bad when everyone from Michigan recommends it, and then people don't enjoy it or don't "get the hype". So I'm glad you enjoyed it, and if it makes you feel any better, your children wanting to explore the nature center on their own is a very Michigander Mackinac Island experience!
We love touristy places (we live in Leavenworth, WA), but we have a tendency to do them our own way. We really enjoyed walking through the trails on Mackinac. There was great scenery and it was much more peaceful than the main road. It’s such a pretty place even if it is crowded! We loved Michigan in general this summer. We’ve got another video coming up with a few state parks that we fell in love with.

We love Harvest Hosts but some can be disappointing. So far we have not felt we should leave. Safe travels.
We’ve stayed in so many including in Mexico and Canada and we love them - this is the first one that we almost packed up… was just really odd.

Great to see your smiling faces! Hopefully you figured out the water pressure issue. When we first camped in our 22 FC we had issues and had to raise the outlet pressure on the water pump. Reach out if you want details.(Kathy Walker)
Thank you! We did have a hole in our hose and that was part of the problem, but think our city water inlet may be gummed up.
