Seiko Turtle SRP777 Long Term Review

Seiko Turtle SRP777 Long Term Review
Where’d you go man
Coming back! The watch bug got me again and I’m coming back!
I used to own an SKX007, then an SRP779 Pepsi turtle, which I sold for a “Batman” turtle (forgot the exact code… When I sold that, I was “Turtle-less” for a couple of years, trying out other Japanese watches, (Sumo, Arnie, Citizen BN0150, various G-Shocks) until last week when I picked up a used SRPA21, the Padi turtle, and absolute adore it! I forgot how comfortable these Seiko divers wear, no sharp edges, no hot spots, fantastic iconic case design, great lume and that blue dial is mesmerising. No other large dive watch wears as nice on an average wrist than the turtle.
There are plenty fashion/poser divers out there, but the Turtles are the real deal for not a lot of money. Mine has been up mountains, down caves, jet ski’d, surfed and it’s never missed a beat and it was less than €500.
This watch is surprisingly high quality. The finishing, dial and strap, are heads and tails above my my old skx007.
Diver watches exude cool...
Where you get that green/yellow strap
I don’t remember where but the style is a French marine nationale strap. I believe its history dates back to ww2. That is the style and the original used is the green with yellow strip. You can google it and just buy from any reputable website.
Real men that work Hard for their Money wear Casio G-Shocks! I like both?
I love G-Shocks but I feel my wrist is too small for one. I have been thinking about getting the old school square g-shocks because of my small wrist size.
The Turtle has a soft spot in my heart.
I love my turtle. Still going strong after all these years. I don’t even baby it.
Great review! Wear it in good health. I own this watch and it is “the real deal”. No better tool watch on the market in my opinion. 4R36 not the most accurate but it’s a real workhorse movement.
Thank you. This watch should last us a lifetime.
I have many many watches and the 777 is tops in my book. Thanks for the video! I guess Seiko is headed in the right direction with the self winding quartz, I prefer the seiko solar quartz if I'm feelin super accurate.
I always go back to my 777. It’s my go to a lot of times. The drill solar quartz is a nice move. It’s like the best of both worlds. I do want to save up and try to get a spring drive. It’s such a unique and advanced tech for mechanical watches.
I have the SRPC91 (SOTC turtle) from 2018 and still wear it a lot. I like mine on a black silicone tropic strap.
Mine is still ticking and I have no service it after all these years.
That's a very pretty women's watch.
😂
How much?
when i bought the watch it was around $220 USD. With inflation it is current going for $350-450.. crazy.
I just picked up the successor to the 777, the SRPE93. Same watch just a number change. I loved it the second I took it out of the box. I have no doubt this will become my everyday beater. 😂
Mine is 4 years strong and it is still running like day one. I do need to get it service soon. It has never been service.
Inscription on the back changed too, plus you have an extra bit of lume next to the day/date.
Are there any affordable square watches being released for 40th anniversary?
Not that I am aware of at this time. There are other cool looking square g-shock watches that are affordable but not 40th anniversary. There is a Super Mario one DW5600SMB-4.

Dude, stainless steel watches should not be priced over 3K. It's not a precious metal. High-end watches should be made of precious metal. You want to be paying for something that has intrinsic worth, not paying for hype.
Not disagreeing with you but someone has to pay for the marketing department :). I remember when Rolexes used to go under 1K new. I did buy the Tudor 58 silver for little under $4K and I thought that was good value.
I disagree. Stainless steel is much tougher for sports watches + the movement etc. is the same. These gold watches are also overpriced, that gold case costs 3-4k at best.
@@yoshirc2988 I don’t think anyone are buying these as a “sport watch” anymore. I’m a fan of stainless steel. I like the warmth of the gold color but definitely not worth the price for a gold case. Plus it is so much heavier too. Not a fan of that.
@@yoshirc2988 IMO stainless steel is still the king when it comes to material for watches.
Btw before you go rushing to the store to try to get one. The CEO stated the first year release will only be for selected people. How do you feel about that?
awesome video
Thanks!
nice watch and video sir
Thank you. Very kind of you. Don’t forget to like and sub kind person 😁
Thanks!
My only problem is the lug to lug distance.
You’re not the first person to tell me that. I have a Nomos timeless club and I agree.
I've bought the SRP 775 in May 2016 and I haven't taken it off my wrist since that day !
That is amazing. What strap are you using and do you swap them? Only reason I am asking is because I go back between the nato and a SS bracelet.
@@StyleAndStrap That was the bracelet version.Only when I swimm I swap to the rubber band ! EIther way it wears very comfortable on the wrist ! :)
Great value and looks great
Thanks I think so too. It has been years and I still wear this watch in my rotation.
I'm a driver and yes private investigator and I wear a Seiko
That is pretty cool that you are a PI.
There are zero cons, as it's not a dress watch, even though I wear it with formal wear. Secondly..mine has no misalignment issues..maybe I was lucky. Most beautiful watch in my view.
I know there are misalignment issues but I find that Japanese brand tend to have a better track record when it comes to QC.
In regards to the most beautiful watch ever made, in my view it's in the top 5. As a brand in regards to value for money, only Orient is ahead in first place. This is my favourite watch in my collection by far.
Well said!
Keeps better time than my rolex
that's shocking. Wow. I don't have a Rolex but my Tudor keeps pretty accurate time.
@@StyleAndStrap how accurate? Rolex is only 4 to six times the cost to manufacture. Factory production items.
@@vicg5323 so its been two months on the Tudor 58 silver and it is 30secs behind. I synced the time to the second against my smart phone 2 months ago. I plan on doing a 3 month review on the watch soon and posting it. It is a good watch. I agreed with you on the price difference.
Great evaluation and description of an outstanding watch. I have too many watches and a high percentage of them are pricier watches but this is the best watch I own and my favorite by far.
Wow that is impression. I have more expensive watches too and this is one of my favorite that gets a good use in my rotation. Something nice about having an unbreakable watch.
The audio in you video is poor, but the video visual is good. Only negative is the accuracy. It looses 15 sec a day. It’s made for wear with dive gear attire or short sleeve shirts. All else is very good, bezel, Lume and overall toolness. Oh yes divers still dive with them. Got to have a backup to a dive computer!
Yeah the audio sucks. I have an external mic on the camera too. I’ll start doing voiceovers during editing to make it sound better. Thanks for the feedback!
YOU SHOULS SAY IT IS SRP777J MADE IN JAPAN NOT SRP777K,
This is true!
But love it have my steeldive captain Willard as my beater
That’s a very special version. Cherish that thing.
Much cheaper in U.S Ireland I paid €580
Yeah things tend to be cheaper in the US because they get ship in bulk to us since we buy so much
Just received a King Turtle 🐢 Thanks for the long term update mate 🙂
No problem. I hope you enjoy it. It is a real daily beater for sure.
@@StyleAndStrap you're right, it's an amazing watch and my new daily beater (and also the best watch I've ever owned haha) - just put it on a French Nationale navy para strap, looks mint!
I have this watch and I have to say i must of got lucky.my bezel ,and C.R. seem to be spot on with alignment.all other reviews have complaints on this issue.
That is good to hear. I got lucky with mine too.
Excellent video and review!
Glad you liked it!
Now that my eye are getting older I'm probably going to buy the Seiko King Turtle with the Cyclops over day date just haven't decided which one kind of like the blue. Be glad to hear any comments on those who have that model.
I don’t have that model but I can relate. When I was younger I thought Rolexes with cyclops were ugly. Now I understand why they exist 😂
Great review, I recently bought a 777 pre-owned in Mint condition for 200usd. It's by far my favorite everyday watch, tough, good-looking and fits flat on my wrist. For what you get there is no better bang for buck.
I agree with you. I hope you are still enjoying your watch!
Been wearing one variation or another of the Seiko Turtle since I bought one in the PX many years ago . The only thing I changed was put a rubber waffle strap on them. Thinking about buying a King Turtle in blue just to be different this time. And for the Cyclops, eyes aren't what they used to be.
I have one, which I modified with a coin edge bezel and lumed ceramic bezel insert. Best watch for the money in my opinion.
that is awesome. How hard was it to switch the bezel. I've been thinking about doing it with mine.
@@StyleAndStrap Not hard at all. If you have a thin blade (like a Swiss Army knife) you can wedge it in between the bottom of the bezel and case. I find it’s easiest to do around the 4:00 position. Also, to learn from my mistakes, tape off the case with masking tape in case the knife slips to avoid any scratches. I have photos on IG at @mistaniskaswrist
Nice review Question would you pick this srp777 or the skx007? getting it for anniversary gift. Want a watch that will last and be built like a tank and with great history and resale value wich would you pick Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you
I had the choice and I picked this srp777 over the skx007. Ultimately, you follow your heart. But the srp777 is a newer watch with a better movement. It is larger. If you have a smaller wrist, the skx007 may fit better. The srp777 is a remake of a classic. The skx007 has been discontinued, and may be a classic itself in a decade or two. On paper the srp777 is superior and was made to be since it is in a higher class than the skx007. Is it better for you? Only you can answer that question.
Hi, what strap is that? Thanks
Its from Watch Gecko. You can do a search for them. They are based in the UK so shipping is slower but the quality is pretty good for around $30. It is not stiff at all like some of the other nato.
@@StyleAndStrap thankyou, and great video. I've had my SRP777 for just over a month and i'm yet to take it off! 😀👍
Great review!
thanks!
Love this watch. Sorry to say looks too large on your wrist.
I agreed. I have been looking for a smaller Seiko Diver in recent months. Maybe something 40 mm or 41 mm.
@@StyleAndStrap but as always one should always wear what you enjoy.
@@WoodshavenPatriot good advice.
Good review. I’m getting one soon 3/24/ 021 for 30% off at Kohl’s department store. $350 Regular $495
That’s where I got mine. Always a good deal if you wait for the right time.
I like the car detailing analogy. Didn’t think about it but I definitely need to clean my collection. Would appreciate any tips on the leather. Plus, lint and fuzzies on silicone straps is super annoying to remove. How do you deal with those. Also, have you tried to polish our daily wear marks, desk diving marks from bracelets? Someone recommended Polywatch but it’s quite expensive. Any who, love the channel. Keep up the uploads.
Leather is tricky. The best way to think of leather is that its organic. It is essentially skin. It will be very similar to maintaining nice leather shoes. Get a nice brush to wipe off any lint, dust, etc. A horsehair brush or something similar works well. I would then use a leather creamer/conditioner to ensure it does not dry out. Make sure it is a neutral creamer or a color that matches your existing leather. This is all assuming you have untreated leather. Treated leather you can just wipe with a damp cloth. Best way to tell you have treated or untreated is to do a water test. Drop a droplet of water on the leather and if it is absorbed it is untreated.
Cool video. Subscribed
Thanks for the sub!
Not bad. 346 out tha door at Macys. Digging it already. My first Seiko.
congrats bro! It is a slippery slope. Soon you will be drooling over Grand Seiko and thinking of ways to save up enough to buy one:).
@@StyleAndStrap this might as well be the "new skx".
This is the watch I bought last week!! Absolutely love it.
Enjoy. It has done well for me over the years. Definitely turn me onto the seiko brand.
Great review and totally agree with all your comments about this watch. I have the same model two years ago,I dive with it about 12 or 15 times a year ( between 30 to 80 meters deep) and so far, I'm delighted with it. Mine is delayed between 5 and 7 seconds a day, since I bought it until today. I do use the original rubber strap even with the diving suit but sometimes I use NATO strap too. Thanks for sharing.
Glad to see a diver using it for how it’s meant to be used. Keep up with the adventures. Thanks for the comments.
Wow! I think they did a great job. I cant wait until they release other variations of the 58.
