Anyone can spin the back end out but it’s a different ball game to keep maximising grip at the same time

I've been a biker from the age of 17, a long time ago, and have also ridden Motocross, but no way could I ride speedway. Although I might be persuaded to try, with some tuition!!

Not sure what decade this video is from. 70’s, I guess. In the late 80’s I spent a month or so with my English girlfriend in her Kentishtown flat. We met in NYC. Where I’m from. During that in London I went up to Hackney to watch speedway twice. I vaguely remember sitting on the grass and drinking a lot of beer with some very friendly Brit’s. They were curious about American flat track racing. But mostly we just drank. And drank. Good times! London in the 80’s was very cool. But so was NYC in the 80’s.

Brilliant to see what the Blue Peter team did 50 years ago. Todays children will be watching programmes about gender reassignment i bet.

I loved going to the Speedway as a small kid, my Grandparents used to take me to Wimbledon, a bottle of pop, hotdog, and standing on the first corner, the noise and the smell was amazing.

John and Peter did so well, anyone that has never been on a speedway bike would have no idea of the power and speed those bikes reach in a very confined space. Heroes of their time.

A powerful argument, @turboslag however, we'll have to agree to differ, the Woolard was very knowledgeable, however, I'm going to go with Noakes. Merry Christmas and happy new year to you and yours

@@christopherobrien3441 And to you. Without wishing to argue, I feel it reasonable to further explain my choice. John Noakes was only ever a kids TV presenter, Woollard presented a wide range of serious programs in a very articulate and clear style. Both are a sad loss to the world and our British way of life though.

I had forgot all about this until now, I was at this meeting and remember the Blue Peter filming, Terry Barclay was the son of George who rode for West Ham, I remember him tuning his bike where they lived in Plaistow, Len Silver was the best promoter HACKNEY ever had, a hard worker, and dedicated to the sport, with a natural talent for getting publicity, still loves his speedway at Rye House.

I was a big Speedway fan in the '70s and I remember being disappointed I missed this, being long before even video recorders were about so this is the first time I've seen it. RUclips is brilliant!! Ps back then I supported the Ipswich Witches.

I believe this is a live edition of Blue Peter from 10th April 1972. That day's show started with a demo of some reclining massage chairs, before the speedway film, then Freda the tortoise was taken out of retirement and bathed, after which there was a Noah's ark crocodiles make before the show ended with the National Girl Guides Festival of Songs winners singing 'If you're happy and you know it' round the campfire (before anyone asks it wasn't the occasion when the studio caught fire!).
