And a lovely question to start with :) In the past, I've had students complain that the force on a charged particle moving in a magnetic field is not listed in the PAT syllabus, but I'm content that all the information students need to attempt this problem is included in the question. Would you like to add any further comment w.r.t. this issue?

When trying to combine equation (1) and (2), you could alternatively substitute v=E/B into: eV = mv^2/2 to get: eV = m(E/B)^2/2 right, and then rearrange from there?
