Please note a clarification regarding the reference to an accountable plan for business expenses. As stated in the presentation, an accountable plan must be appropriately designed, documented, and administered. The examples represent the initial compensation package which includes an accountable plan funded by separate church funds and are not the result of recharacterization of salary for this purpose which, of course, would make these expenses non-accountable, taxable as income, and subject to the unreimbursed expenses rules. For the complete description of the accountable plan see IRS Publication 5137: Fringe Benefit Guide

Michigan is one of the least transparent states in the country. We recently had a $20M grant go to a democratic operative for "bringing international businesses to Michigan". Unfortunately, she didn't have a company to do that or had ever worked in any such endeavor. Some of her first expenditures were a $4,500 coffee machine, a salary payment of about $400k and booking a first-class trip to Europe. When confronted about this, the state said they don't audit grants until at least a year has gone by.

Yes. We pay a very modest stipend to the candidates, regardless of whether they finish the simulation they are entitled to the stipend.

I interviewed with a company once that asked me questions and I recorded a video answering them. Made me feel like some kind of accounting wh@re. You don't get any feedback to work with like you would in a regular conversation, and it feels super impersonal. Won't be doing that again.

    • @robinthieme9433

I have heard about companies providing these video interviews. I have to say that I do love the Indeed's current 'Phone Interview' feature as a very preliminary screening tool, but, would never rely upon it as a primary method of considering final candidates.

Assigned a mentor who was a managing partner of a regional firm during undergrad "School teaches you the language, not the work." It should be considered to revamp the accounting degree if it isn't going to prepare you for the work. Remove some 'precedent' or upgrade it.
