Central Coast Mariners vs Newcastle Jets [Match Analysis - Australia A League]
Today, let’s dive straight into an exciting A-League matchup between the Central Coast Mariners and the Newcastle Jets. The numbers are pointing towards the Mariners as the favourites, with a strength comparison of 91% to the Jets' 9%, and a value rating of 57 versus 43. But raw stats alone don’t tell the whole story-we need to look deeper.
A crucial factor in this analysis is the historical head-to-head record. The Mariners have had the upper hand in recent meetings, consistently outperforming the Jets. Betting odds further reinforce this trend, initially placing Central Coast at $1.92 for a win, while the Jets were at $3.20, with a draw at $3.40. As the odds have shifted to $2.03 for the...

I believe our leaders do listen to the people wants. Not long ago we had a Deputy PM who wasn't so popular with the majority for some reason and he retreated on health reasons and paved the way for Lawrence Wong to succeed him as Deputy PM and eventually PM. As you rightly said, Singapore is based on meritocracy and we the people want our leaders to be able to stand up and stand tall on the world stage.

I think Singaporeans know and believe PM Lawrence Wong to be a genuine decent good guy. However, the test now is whether he has the iron to govern and lead the country forward. While we have been successful in many things in the past, we need to now move ahead by improving or even removing what is ineffective instead of dwelling on previous successes.

The PM speech is okay, very good indeed in the context of Singapore, a small nation with population of 7 million or so! But the comment is too far away, using this speech to criticize China, a nation with 1.4 billion people. The comment sounds like there's some sense of leadership issue in mainland China. That's too far the interpretation. Very inpropriate! Not fit at all. It sounds quite sinister indeed, even though done in subtle way. That's what I caught hearing all the comments.

Good to hear some positive messages from the new PM. I think the bigger challenge on unity comes from new citizens/PRs and the woke generation. The new migrants, be it new citizens or PRs are not what they used to be and I don’t know what else the government can do if they don’t make an effort or have the intention to integrate into our multi racial and religious society and embrace our values. The Chinese migrants is one example, This is not unique to Singapore as people from other countries like US, Canada, UK and Australia have complained that the Chinese migrants don’t seems to want to integrate into their society and participate in their social/political causes. They identify themselves as migrants and not citizens. They are still loyal to their birth country and tend to live in their own enclaves. They will only come out to protest if their rights/benefits have been violated. You can even see strange sights like Chinese holding China flags and singing red songs on Australia Day. The huge influx of foreigners have caused some cracks in our social fabric and this will cause further diversity in society if not addressed head on. The other group that can cause diversity is the woke generation. This again, is not unique to Singapore and you can see how Trump is dealing with them now in US. They will continue to push the envelope and it will be very challenging to deal with their ‘progressive’ agendas in a rather conservative and religious Singapore society.

@nicholasgoh3526 Hi Nicholas, thanks for the thoughtful comments. With regards to Wokeness, it's rather selective, and there's an unspoken extent to how far one can go. During PM Wong's inauguration, i notice that the majority of the 4G leaders rest their hands on the bible when they are sworn in. So i believe that there's a substantial representation of Christians/Catholics in the PAP. Hence, i think they accept some degree of wokeness, but anything that threatens faith and government is no-no.

I used to have a Chinese colleague who told me he could not finished his first meal when he landed in Singapore. I thought he could not get used to the food but it turned out that he was surprised to see all the grandmas and grandpas working in the foodcourt. He was questioning why we are treating them this way, something which you will never see anywhere in China. I guess his image of Singapore was shattered that day and he left Singapore one year later.

  • @nicholasgoh3526

Good podcast. I think back then we did ask for help but Israel and Taiwan were the two countries that were willing to help us (India refused to help us) and that’s why we still have strong diplomatic relations with them and our army still conducts military exercises in Taiwan. You did point out some real issues that are facing Singapore now but one thing that is more worrying is the competency of the leadership team. The so called 4G team is a far cry from what used to be in LKY era. I remember in one of Ho Kwon Ping’s speech, he criticised the narrow approach in leadership selection resulting in the 4G team having similar backgrounds. This will result in group think and a Singapore that looks glamorous on the outside but vulnerable on the inside - as they will not be able to think out of the box for solutions in a crisis. The party has difficulty attracting talents to join them since GCT times and have been scraping the barrel for candidates. The incompetent and unpopular ministers are still in parliament and have been there for years. The party knows they need to change in other areas as well and LW came out with some initiatives like Forward Singapore and said he will also reassess all previous assumptions. However he is also a product of the system and his ability to make these changes is yet to be seen. Recently in a dialogue on the Singapore Dream, a student asked LW on the affordability of HDB flats, a hot topic in recent years. What’s astonishing is that even a student now is aware and worried about the affordability of HDB flats. Aren’t they supposed to be worried only about whether they can get a job after graduation? HDB was set up for the sole purpose of providing affordable public housing so how did we get to where we are now? This is just one of the issues that are plaguing Singaporeans for years but have not been resolved. The coming election will be interesting. I reckon there are more people now who realised we need to change for our survival and future but do they have the courage to vote for change? I’m not holding my breath.

Congratulations to PM Lawrence Wong and Singapore for showing the world what REAL LEADERSHIP and BEING HUMAN is all about. The so called " leaders" in the rest of the world and especially in the terrorist rogue state Banana Republic of America (BRA) and the collective West, could sit up and learn from tiny Singapore !!!💕🙏💕
